Because performing due diligence is the competent thing to do at this point?
Clearly, some people within the program/BOT don't think Butch is the answer. Korn Ferry helps in that regard; they can either show he's a true candidate with no red flags, or reveal that he shouldn't get the job.
People on this board are ****ing and moaning whenever there's an indication it won't be Butch but fail to acknowledge that there's risk involved with his hiring. They claim the BOT/admin are stupid/corrupt/don't care about football, but EVERY THING THEY HAVE DONE (including firing Golden mid-season) has shown that they plan to do as much as possible to get it right this time.
BBB might not be best for the program. You need to accept that. If the consensus is that he'll do the best for the U, he'll be here. If not, he won't.
not necessarily true....people ***** and moan because the consistent alternative names thrown out are hot garbage, junk scraps (corch scrong, cuban al etc). If the alternatives thrown out were competent, established winners I wouldnt *****...but after 10 years of established incompetency coupled with the trash names being thrown out...what do you expect?
I would love butch or someone better....not someone worse (i.e. corch scrong and cuban al)
1. From all indications, they're performing due diligence on EVERYONE -- Butch, Cristobal, Herman, and Chud. Just because someone gets mentioned doesn't mean they're the
#1 candidate -- it just means they're being looked at.
2. Charlie Strong won 11 and 12 games his last two seasons at Louisville, recruited South Florida well for UL and UF, and runs the same system (offensively and defensively) that many here are clamoring for. He won a BCS Bowl in one of those years. Brian Kelly, who has been mentioned as a "pie in the sky/you-gotta-make-him-say-no!" candidate on this very board, won 11 and 12 games in his last seasons at Cincinnati and has turned around the ND program from the Charlie Weis debacle.
The job Strong inherited at Texas was a LOT worse than many people realize -- entitled players, lack of commitment from the administration, a general laissez-faire attitude around the whole **** thing. He's struggled, but it isn't an implication on his coaching abilities -- it's an implication on where the program was when he was hired.
Butch hasn't coached in four years. That -- and not the fact that his results at UNC were "meh," that he bombed in the NFL, and that he's in his mid-60s -- is the biggest knock on him, and immediately makes Strong the more attractive candidate (UM ties or not).
Again, this is people bemoaning anyone who is NOT Butch Davis. Try to couch it any way you want -- at the end of the day, 90% of the people on this board will be upset if the U doesn't "BBB" and fail to acknowledge there's HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE risk in doing so.
