Why the lack of respect for Mark Richt

need another redneck hick at the helm and SOON

Another one who was antequated and continuously out coached.

Phenomenal person though
Some correlations for sure, with the stable of backs he had, ol he had, made sense they wanted to run run run. In fairness to him UGA didn't put up the dough like they did with Kirbs and Kirbs had a gazillion times more talent to work with because of Richt. Programs went all in after he is gone. He has to kind of feel cursed, had a couple teams that without injuries, probably win ships, he never leaves, and UGA would have been where they are today 10 years ago.

And what he was able to accomplish here? I don’t think it is fair to group him in with Randy Shannon, Al Golden, Manny Diaz and so far, even Mario. I find myself having to remind folks of this in different threads.

9-4 in year one with a bowl win over a ranked opponent.
10-3 in year two with wins over the 13th and 3rd ranked team back to back.
Coach of the year
First and only ACC champ appearance And straight out Division title.

All the while dealing with wife having cancer and then stricken with a debilitating disease and NO RESOURCES. Had to pay for much of the indoor facility.

Were things perfect? **** no, but my God, how many of us would kill to have what he gave us instead of what has been endured since he left?

He PROVED that you can win here.

I don't see a lot of "disrespect"—I think the frustration was that he took a job that he was too tired to go all-in on and wound up bailing out after three years as it was too much to handle (with all he had going on and after 15 seasons getting chewed up by the SEC.)

First and third years both had four-game losing streaks, which was a pretty bad look—and that 2017 run was a fugazi; 10-0 could've easily have been 4-3 out the gate, which means no primetime for VT or Notre Dame, both of those wins fueled by big energy crowds. (Plus, from there he lost to a four-win Pitt, got rolled by five touchdowns in ACC title game and blew a 14-3 lead in Orange Bowl to fall to Wisconsin by double-digits.)

Finished 7-9 after that 10-0 start, had some brutal losses in 2018 and got rolled again in bowl game by a bad Wisconsin team before quitting out of nowhere.

There was also the whole nepotism thing, running a prehistoric office and keeping his son on staff to do so.

Great man, loves the program, wrote a seven-figure check for the IPF and didn't take a severance package from his alma mater—but fans were hoping for Mark Richt circa 2002-2005—44-9 run, two SEC titles, three big bowl game wins, etc.—not the watered-down version of that guy. That's all.

Richt was the ******* dude. What an example of a man in this day and age tbh. He gave us a great little run, set us up for massive success, and walked away from a big buyout he was contractually owed for the good of the university.

And that dare I say generational position was promptly flushed down the toilet by hiring a first time HC with no coaching search.

I swear to god nothing epitomizes the institutional rot in the university more than that did.

LOL. The last thing I expected to see on a Monday following an L was a thread devoted to analyzing the Richt tenure. Not sure why we're discussing this, but carry on . . .

Though I was against Coach Richt's hiring and wanted Butch back (Yeah I was one of those guys), I did have high hopes for Coach Richt though. He did a lot of good things while he was here. Prior to Richt's hiring, I had not been excited for the Canes since about 2004. I respect him for resigning and not causing any drama. I also respect him for donating a portion of his own money for the IPF. He's a great guy and brought us many great moments.

I really think Coach Richt was worn out from being in the SEC for so many years. His health problems (Unknown to us at the time) also contributed to him being less than satisfactory here. I do wish him and his wife the best and I hope they are able to minimize the health effects. If we could have got him several years before, I think he would have been fine. Wrong coach at the wrong time. He had some amazing teams at Georgia over the years.
If you look at Coach Richt's history though, he never could win the majority of big games while he was at Georgia. He was an acceptable but not great recruiter. His antiquated plodding pro-style offense was terrible! What aggravated me off more than anything about Richt was in 2018. His offense sucked, he knew his offense sucked and he did nothing about it. He didn't even make an attempt to hire Kendal Briles (Although I'm unsure if he would have worked) before he went to FSU. I will never forget he stated something to the effect of his plays have been working for 20 years or some crap. If something does not work, time to go another direction.

I really wanted Coach Richt to succeed here but some things just don't work out.

Pastor Strict brought us the best moment & season we’ve had in the last 20 years.

He did a lot for this program in his short time here.

- Got the IPF built
- Won us our first Coastal title ever since joining the ACC
- Won us our first bowl game in over a decade
- Gave us our first 10 win season since 2003
- Beat FSU after having a 7 year losing streak to them
- Beat Notre Dame for first time since 1989

No Richt wasn't necessarily a great HC here & didn't win us the ACC or a Natty, but he did more for us than the previous 3 HC's before him & had he hired an Uptempo Spread OC from the jump he would've won a great deal more.

Pastor Richt wasn't a bad dude at all & did help us regain some relevance after the 5 year embarrassment of the Folden era. Yes he made mistakes & cost us some winnable games, but he was stabilizing force & more than solid coach for us, he deserves a ton of respect especially when you line him up next to Shannon, Folden, Diaz & Saint Cristobal.

His biggest downfall was that his health was failing him by the time he came here, he had a life threatening heart attack in 2018 & **** near died. He was really unwell & simply didn’t have the energy (or the budget) to recruit at the level he did at UGA.

The biggest mistake this program made was handing over the reigns to Manny Diaz; if they weren’t such cheap ******** at that time (in 2019) & conducted a real coaching search & finally hired a non Miami bro, we’d be in a much better predicament than we are now.

But Richt is alright with me, I still can’t believe he decided to go with that Onside Kick in 2018 vs UVA lol, but other than that, Richt is kinda like the George W Bush of Miami Football. He was under appreciated during his time, had some real questionable hires & flat out duds on his staff, made plenty of mistakes, but in hindsight after having multiple disasters who succeeded him, you sometimes harken back to that time & even wish he was still around lol.

The Cult of Saint Cristobal can throw Molotov’s at me all they want, but Mark Richt would have NEVER loss to Midd Tenn ST, whether he had a roster with over 46 4-stars or not... And would have beat them with much worse QB’s too 👀...

Because he took the job when he was in retirement mode. Then he gave his son a well paying job for which he was not qualified for.

And if by some small chance he was qualified for it, then he would have been able to find that job elsewhere. That's why I have a lack of respect for him.

I'm sure I;ll get a bunch of of but 2017 blah blah blah and he funded the IPF, blah blah blah

Beat #14 West Virginia in 2016 for Miami’s first bowl win since 2003
Beat #13 Virginia Tech and #3 Notre Dame, won the coastal, made it to #2 in the country
Beat #24 Pitt in 2018

26-13 overall
16-8 in the ACC

2-1 vs FSU
2-1 vs UNC
2-1 vs Pitt

lmao at blah blah blah

You are right IMO. It's not fair to lump Richt in with those others. The last half of the 2016 season and through most of 2017, the team had real momentum. I think it was ultimately QB play that sunk his tenure (and having his son in charge of that department didn't help).

Some of yall starting the BS again by lumping Richt in with the results of the “last 15-20” years. So here is a reminder. Please do the research. Miami consistently played a COMPETITIVE brand of football under that man.

To be honest every coach had our team look better than this year. You know I'm with you on Richt though. We are jinxed, him getting sick just proves it. Dude took us to 10-0 with Malik Rosier. Makes what Prison Mikey is doing at FSU laughable.

2016 up until the Virginia game in 2018 was actually fun watching this team. 2020 was fun watching guys like King, Phillips, Roche, Harris, Jordan, Harley, Lou, Borregales but that's it.

Miami was a few plays from being a 1 loss team in 2016, 2017 was crazy and then got exposed the last 3 games of the season, 2018 the defense was legit, the offense was a trainwreck aside from a few games.

Nah bro i am seeing guys starting to put this narrative out that Miami has been at this level of ineptitude the last 15-20 years as if to say “what do you expect.” Forget the 2017 year for one minute, look how good his first year was? The culture was changed IMMEDIATELY. There is NO COMPARISON at ALL.

He was able to keep the culture and yet not be a player's coach. He softened from his UGA days but Richt wasn't some softy. But you are correct, we should exclude Richt from that convo. Not fair to lump him in.

Mostly the people that dont like RIcht dont like the fact that he is a Christian and upfront and proud about it.

Actually, legit criticism of him is muted by who he is as a man and by his health issues.

His recruiting classes speak for themselves. Absolutely dreadful.
