Why do we refuse to play with any kind of tempo?

Mario is the reason. We played with tempo at times last year. I said it before but Mario blames the offense scoring so fast on some the defensive struggles. He wants to possess the ball and keep our defense on the sideline rested. Mario has to let go of the reigns on the offense. We saw it opened up against NCState. Hopefully it stays that way the rest of the season. I doubt we see more tempo tho.

Mario already struggles with game day management with reverse tempo offense

Do you think he’s gonna speed things up?

Fair points and my mistake on Utah. I just feel like we need multiple losses (maybe up to 4) in the 7 or so spots ahead of us or an ACC championship to get in. I don’t think we’re going to leap teams on style points alone if everyone keeps winning. But if we get those losses ahead of us, I think if we keep winning that’s enough.

I think there is a solid argument we should be ahead of Vandy, Utah, and ND right now. But the same arguments for that existed last week and unfortunately I just don’t see that happening. I hope I am wrong.

We should definitely be ahead of Vandy and Utah. Im ok with ND being ahead of us, but it should only be by 1 or 2 spots, not 6 spots or however many spots they are currently ahead of us.

When did he say this? I could've sworn I saw that Dawson was quoted on interviews this year saying that he called the game differently last year BECAUSE our defense sucked.

I can kind of see where op would get that tho, early in season when we were giving away games in 4th qtr. Mario/Dawson would talk about "complimentary football". We dont have to be soo aggressive on offense because the defense is better, being "comfortable with being bored" on offense, etc. There was a hubris coming from them that the offense didnt have to do much and we could just run up the middle to victory. I have never seen an OC basically say we dont have to score on offense actually, we play for possession. No aggressiveness or creativity needed, no style point, nothing.

I really dont want to go hunting for quotes of hubris BS, because still ****ed we have to sit here on tues night while playoff committee play in our face due to our own doing..
