Why do we always look so weak and slow?

This has been happening for years now and I don't understand why not a single staff can rectify it. Are we just recruiting small players, and if so, why aren't they at least fast? You can't convince me that there's a lack of speed in South Florida football, even after the Georgias, Bamas and OSUs take who they want from the most elite group of prospects. Programs like UCF don't have trouble finding speed within the state...but if you're going to be slow, at least have the capacity to be physical. We have neither. Our players tend to look small next to other P5 programs and even compared to our early 2000s teams which were definitely faster than today's roster, our skill players mostly look like HS kids. Meanwhile, UNC's RBs (especially Hood) were falling forward and breaking tackles. Both lines for them looked stronger and more stout. I know it's just year 1 of Mario's tenure, but when the **** are we finally going to solve this problem?

🤷🏾‍♂️

We still see ourselves as an upper level destination. Truth is, we don't have the results to back that up. We spend time on trying to get those guys, fail, and end up with the leftovers that don't feel we came on too late. Recruits know who we are better than we do. We over value our program tremendously.

We recruit players that look the part from a size standpoint, but don't have the elite measurables.

Our recruiting base is arguably the best in the country, but it's an athleticism thing. They are some of the rawest football players coming in.

S&C, again look at our base. Most have little to nothing in that department that is considered modern. Poor facilities, some private schools are the exception, but not much has changed in 59 years down south. We're behind the curve when they step on campus and have to rework their entire body.

Speed wise, you see guys that are fast on every team, but they're smaller than what we want because we think we're too good and they won't work in big boy football. We can't load up on them, but there's a guy or two we should give a chance to yearly.

Habits. Most of our recruiting base has bad habits. They don't have anyone telling them what to eat or do anything. When that's the makeup of your team, it's hard to change that. When it's an entire roster, it's near impossible.

I didn't like seeing the pics and stats of player transformations under Feld. They were gaining weight while also gaining a significant amount of body fat percentage. Sure, they would cut some come fall camp, but some of those numbers were alarming IMO.

We should be getting better, there's an investment in nutrition, s&c, and we're hitting on some of those elite size and athletic number kids. You can't transform an entire roster overnight. Everyone can get faster and stronger, but it does take time. Hope we've got the people and plan in place to do so.

We don’t recruit speed, we recruit size. Remember that Samuel’s kid that went to FSU at corner and balled out? He wanted to go to Miami. Rumph didn’t want him because he was too small. We got Ivey instead cause he was big.

Same **** with wr.

I’ll also say 7 vs 7 culture in Florida is teaching bad habits.

I would hate to think that all our opponents have faster 40 yd sprint times. I believe there's a general team laziness... reaction times during plays are pathetic.
I believe that's all part of culture.

Both lines looked good against A&M who is a decent SEC team. If TVD plays better and special teams doesn’t **** the bed, we win that game by 2 TDs. Hard to decipher what is going on, but I agree we seem to lack physicality since that game. I think the bottom line is this. Any team can look good now and then, we need to upgrade with more twitchy players and our staff needs to do a much better job. Ultimately how I will feel about this team will depend on what it looks like in November, when we are only playing for an extra game.

We need athletic , twitchy guys and speed desperately.
People are a bit off saying Mario just wants big physical guys

We have some legit speed and twitch in our recruiting class so far. This isn’t Al Golden 2.0 in that regard

I don’t think anyway

Granted, recruiting the right kids and not prospects is a huge part of the process but I have felt and still continue to feel something has been off with the S&C for a long long time. In the last 20 years name all the kids that got better here? Robert Knowles is about the only guy that comes to my mind. Transfers perhaps, but that leads me to believe their training prior to coming to Miami was better than here and they had "good' habits.

I feel like we got players that fit that bill this last class. The current class seems to be all about size for the most part, except for Stafford, Washington, and Joseph, which I love all their game. We really really really need Chris Johnson in this class.
