Tell me who had the better AY/A?
| Player | Team | TD / TD% | INT / INT% | Rush TD / Att | Adjusted Y/A | QB Rating | Record |
| Cam Ward, 2023 | WSU | 22 / 5.03% | 5 / 1.14% | 8 / 109 | 8.3 | 146.8 | 5-6 |
Yeah the comparison is bad, but I didn't post it for the TVD info/comparison at all, purely for more stats that I haven't seen regarding Ward, because for all but the Y/A you usually have to pay for pff or another service to access.I realize you're not the person who posted it, but that is a horrendous graphic comparison.
I've already discussed why Yards per ATTEMPT is a **** statistic.
And two of the other statistics involve PRESSURE. Which may be greater or lesser depending on your line and/or WRs. It's not fair to express such things as percentages when you may have a crappy line or WRs who struggle to get open.
Third down success is a valid measure (Ward has the better stat). The completion percentage 15 yards downfield stat is...questionable...it may have a very small sample size...it just depends...
Again, the key here, at least with what we know about THOSE TWO quarterbacks, would be INTs. Tyler killed us last year with bad/untimely INTs.

Yeah I use that and their nfl site for pretty much all my regular stats, but they basically don’t provide any advanced stats. They do a little for NFL, but I don’t trust it as much as I would like PFF advanced passing stats. To get the better metrics you gotta pay usually. You can pull a lot from sports-reference.com

I still think the "vs. pressure" stats are misleading, but somebody takes the time to compile that. I guess.
A lot has to do with protection. Ward like every other QB will be really good if his uniform is clean. Miami's O line will get the job done. Ward has a bigI buy into the argument that Mertz will be better than this board thinks he is, and will have a narrow window of opportunity on short, quick throws vs our DBs, which he’s proven to be effective with.
I am more confident than most that Mertz will be able to execute their game plan AND will be successful at it to a degree.
But Cam Ward is demonstrably the better all around QB.
I'm bored, and since we have no news out of camp, I figured I'd get you guys all fired up. So here it is:
The host of Locked on Gators took time off as an extra on Swamp People to stake out a claim that Mertz will be the better QB in game 1 even if Ward has more NFL potential.
His first argument is that Ward coughs up the ball 3 times a game across fumbles and interceptions, whereas Mertz does so less than 1 time a game. He acknowledges that Mertz is a game manager, but refutes the "Checkdown Charlie" nickname, by citing the statistics that average depth of target was 6.7 yards for Merz vs. 7.7 yards for Ward, and that if you take away behind LOS passes throws, that increases to 10.9 for Ward vs. 11.4 for Merz.
Do you buy that argument?
Removing behind the line passes is pretty standard for evaluating college qbs.Removing half of your data set to make your point seem valid is a wild concept.

Im not debating what mertz is or isn’t i was just saying its pretty normal to take away those throws when scouting college qbsFine.
Then Mertz's accuracy percentage and total passing yardage numbers plummet.
If you take away Checkdown Charlie's checkdowns, he's not much of a QB. Statistically.

I’m sorry I still have ptsd from Kurt benkert and Alex hornibrookCIS's fascination with very average mediocre QB's & slow DB's never ceases to amaze me.

When comparing the 2 in their systems going head to head?Removing behind the line passes is pretty standard for evaluating college qbs.
Yea it is in general for college guys, there’s not much to take from throws behind the line of scrimmage besides how many attempts the player is throwing in that area but for depth of target it’s smarter to take those out the equation to get a better summaryWhen comparing the 2 in their systems going head to head?
