Who was the first Cane that used the term, The U?

Personally I hate the term “The U”.

What would you prefer? UM??? Not to be confused with Michigan, Montana, Minnesota, and God Knows how many other universities...oh wait Monmouth, Maryland....must go on? The U speaks for itself

I grew up around the Duffy's Tavern area on Red Rd., and as a kid going back to the 60's I remember people saying "The U".
****... in 1975 Otis Anderson was wearing the U helmet.

Second or third or whatever Winslow. First time I remember hearing anything was "we don't care about nobody but THIS U." I was a student then and had been a Canes fan since I was a kid, and that's the first I recall.
 
I remember an OB game where Edge put up the U after a TD. Had not seen it until them, I swear I thought it was a gang symbol at the time. After I re-watched the game I realized what it was, next game everyone started doing it.
