Who on this board wanted Mendoza to transfer to the U?

To me, Game Manager means a QB that's not going to put his team on his back, but is going to execute the plays that are there and not put you in a hole with his mistakes.

It usually means you have to have a strong running game.

I know.
A Neil O'Donnell type.
Good enough to get you beat against great teams.
This kid ain't this.

Wait what?

Mendoza played very well against us. Bailey was a deer in headlights

Not even close to comparable games

Not saying Bailey can’t be good here but you also don’t overcorrect just because of this criteria
And if we are keeping it a buck, I think Mendoza boat was lifted up by the wave of Indiana’s continued success from last year. If we look back at this year, he had the game against Illinois and the last minute throw in the Penn State game.

Beyond that, against the best of the best? (Iowa, Oregon, Penn St, Ohio St)
63% completion rate
222 ave yards per game
5 touchdowns, 4 interceptions
25 rushing attempts, 74 yards, 1 touchdown

Doesn’t exactly scream Heisman to me. If only Cam had his year this year.

Mendoza went to the best place for him. Congrats.
But you are 100 percent correct, you don’t overcorrect for Mendoza, especially when you zoom out and look at everything.

I don't disagree with your comparison but I think we have to consider Mendoza was facing a different UM defense than what Bailey faced this season.
The one I thing I would slightly disagree with some of the Bailey supporters is the claim he had a poor supporting cast at NCSU.
I slightly disagree as I think he had decent skill guys at his disposal but they were overmatched by our defense.

The Heisman voting system is just as bad as the CFP rankings. It’s all a clown show…

No doubt there felt like editing my post but same time I think most get what I mean

Mendoza played against the worst defense I’ve ever seen here. Bailey played against probably the best one in 20 years arguably

Was just wondering how the other person came to that conclusion

Either way I could be totally wrong but if Mendoza was here this year I think we are still 10-2. If Bailey comes in here next here I think 10 wins should be the expectation. Indiana is a really really good organization and I think we are getting to that spot as well so end of the day I’m not too worried about who we pick as QB next year. We’ve got the money if necessary and the roster is gonna be legit

This is the new narrative.

The narrative last year was that Indiana couldn’t beat the big teams.

There is a reason Cignetti spent millions to get Mendoza.

Some of my receipts. I do like Beck but think his missing spring cost us at least 1 game.

I don’t know about Beck missing the spring costing Miami a game. UM had already won three P4 games plus USF. I think it’s kind of a leap to say that missing the spring cost UM a game (games 6 or 8). Maybe I need to rewatch the Louisville game though.

Many of these things can be true.

Indiana was in completely uncharted territories last year.
And their QB graduated, so of course he spent money on a new QB. If Rourke had another year, is he bringing in Mendoza?

But more importantly, did Cignetti have other returning players still in house and maybe, just maybe, they applied lessons learned last year to this year? That maybe they were better equipped to be in big moments and not wilt under adversity?

Did Mendoza help? Sure. His last second pass against Penn St saved their undefeated season. He had a breakout game against Illinois.

But did he perform at Heisman levels in their other biggest games? Seems like a simple question to answer?

He will get up to 3 more big time games so maybe the narrative will change yet again. And guess what? Narratives change all the time.

I like Beck. I like Mendoza. Both will play in the NFL and they're both in the playoffs.

The truth is that 80% of Canes fans were furious when I first suggested both names as good QB options. I know because I was going live every day when it happened.

Some people STILL won’t admit how horribly wrong they were as Mendoza accepts the Heisman Trophy. This board has a weird thing with transfer QBs where nobody is good enough except the top consensus option.

I used to think it was because you were bad at identifying talented posters. Now I think it's because you recruited the right posters but just didn't develop them correctly, you certainly haven't let it rip enough.

It’s impossible to know, but Shannon Dawson said Beck was still using Georgia terminology after the games started (including in the ND game) and he believes Beck did not turn the corner in his grasp of the offense until the SMU game. Dawson includes that game, which UM obviously lost and Beck threw 2 picks (1 went through Trader’s hands), but since that game Beck has an 80% completion % with 281 yards/game and 12 TDs vs 1 interception.

Interesting. That very well may be but it also sounds a little like coach speak to build confidence or something along those lines.

I thought he looked pretty darn good in Week 1 vs ND, so I just have a hard time buying that missing the spring caused the mid-season losses but every rep you take helps so it’s possible.

I’m definitely looking forward to studying Miami in the offseason and seeing what they get at QB.

I didn’t want him. Still don’t. Could be wrong, but I’m not convinced he’s the best qb in the country. But, he did win the Heisman, I’ll give him that much credit.

I held a pretty defensible position: I wanted Mendoza over Beck due to Timing+Injury+Cost.... Which Are still all the main benefits I see today honestly if we had to do it all over again.

I didn't want Mendoza over EVERYONE. But over Beck and the Ewers rumors? I was all on board with him. Wasn't black and white of a Take / Don't Take....
