Who is Plan B?

Basically.
Wow, it doesn't really bother me too bad as Cristobal is definitely qualified and Highsmith has some administration experience, although has he only been involved in player assessment on the NFL level from what I understand. Has he ever been involved in the hiring and firing of coaches? Any fund raising experience?

Fair enough lol.

But to answer your question, it depends on the new AD.

The current plan is to bring in Highsmith & Cristobal, if Cristobal decides he’s not coming they don’t have a 2nd plan, we’ll just forfeit the season & shut down the program until Mario decides he wants come back.
I think Brian Griese figures in somewhere here too but lemme reach out to Marcus Lemonis and Jorge Mas just to iron out the exact time of the Columbus High circle jerk/ University of Miami reorganization planning session. 🤣

Zo's NFL "executive" experience was purely football related. None of it translates to the business side or even the non-football sports side of the AD job. This notion of him being THE actual AD is crazy and swings the pendulum too far in the complete opposite direction of having a feckless moron when it comes to actual sports knowledge in Blake to a guy with ONLY football knowledge that would get swallowed by the other aspects of the job.

We need someone that has already demonstrated the ability to do both sides of the job.

to me, this is pretty easy. first off, if you aren't a power 5 head coach w/ a track record of success i'm not considering you. we need to stop giving coordinators and G5 coaches their first head jobs. the one time in the last 20 years we hired a successful P5 coach we were in the orange bowl in year 2.

secondly, if Cristobal says no you go and hire Mark Stoops. if you can put up 8 and 10 win seasons in the SEC with kentucky's talent disadvantage i think you are pretty much guaranteed to do well in the ACC.

a lot of the others mentioned in this thread -- Luke Fickell, Jim Leonhard, Jeff Hafley -- are good coaches but i question their ability to recruit down here the way we need our next coach to recruit. i think Stoops can recruit. Kentucky's class this year is top half of the SEC and top 20 overall in the nation, and his time down here and at FSU should give him some understanding of the playing field, not to mention having spent a decade recruiting in the SEC.

I think Alonzo will be a football AD... tons of programs have people just for football installed. @Cribby said they want to run this like a big boy program and big boy programs have that in place.

I dont think Alonzo will be the general AD. I dont even think he wants that. He just wants to have football to him and hire an AD additional for the other rest.

Please cite all of the schools that have football only executives separate from the AD, per your post above

I have no idea where people get this notion that programs have football only ADs that operate in their own silo.

This. Does. Not. Exist.

Given all of the smoke with Alonzo these past few weeks/month, I figure that he is strongly involved in the future. But I seriously doubt that he is the AD of the university. That job is very political and requires some a$$ kissing that I don’t think Alonzo has in him.

Highsmith is a special guy with a great memory and is very personable, but not so sure that he is capable of being the full AD as an AD needs to get to full grovel sometime. He has too much pride to be that kind of guy.

all of them? i can start with alabama, ohio state, Clemson, georgia... they all have seperate people hire for football related subjects, at times even split up in communications and sports medicine. look at the staff directory for petes sake, their lists are almost as long as the **** football roster.

edit: i also never wrote that they have seperate positions outside of the ad. please read again, thank you.

Aranda, Napier....... biggest issue with pro guys is recruiting which is lifeblood of successful programs. do they want to compete with the Sabans & Smarts of the world

Wrong

Why are you even talking about communications and sports medicine

So someone other than Gene Smith is making the football hires at Ohio St…. Got it

People mentioning Gino Toretta for AD just proves to me that this city continues to learn absolutely nothing about mistakes from the past.
