He looked to play harder/faster/with more passion to me and plenty others.......... relaxxxx buddy, you GRs sister or girlfriend? I hope they both ball in the NFL, but I personally think Phillips is the better choice and so do a lot of experts, no need to get fired up about a discussion.

No I just hate when people come on here spewing stuff that makes no sense about our players. At least say something that makes sense.

See this puzzles me. So you're saying this season below shows that he's raw? Well dam then wait till he actually learns how to play. You just proved GR is better without even trying.

As a redshirt freshman in 2019, he recorded 15.5 sacks and won all-conference honors and was named the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Watch the tape, friend.

Being an ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year, having 15 sacks doesn't necessarily guarantee you some sort of high draft pick. I've stated before, I don't even really consider Rousseau and Phillips comparable as NFL projections. IMO, they project to two different positions. I don't even think Rousseau is a bad player...he's quite good, but people here slotted him in as a sure fire Top 10 pick after his freshman season because a few mock drafts had him slotted there...and even at the time, I told y'all to pump the brakes on that one. He's not a clean prospect on film.

And GR didn't start in 2019 but still blew Phillips season out of the water,
Do you know the all time single season offense leader in Miami Hurricanes history is Rosier, Malik?

Great take, spot on

I have and I clearly see a monster in GR that hasn't even scratched the surface. I see Phillips having much harder time against big NFL OL. Just my OP doesn't mean I'm right or wrong.

Good response but like you said he's not a clean prospect YET! Wait till he gets into an NFL strength program and gets real DL coaching. He's going to explode. Not my problem you don't see it.

I mean, we'll see.

I think Phillips has a more ready-made NFL game where he's easier to project as a starter and - on film - shows the toolbox against the run and pass. Has excellent bend around the edge, uses his hands well, comes in with a plan of attack, can hold the edge against the run, generates speed to power and showed everything Rousseau did when asked rush inside shoulder or take on guards...just was asked to do it less. Rousseau was a beast on the inside where he could use his speed, reach, and hustle to make plays inside against guards...but wasn't as refined on the outside...there isn't much on tape where he's legit beating tackles one-on-one for sacks, he's not shown a ton of bend around the edge and doesn't really have a plan of attack. That's not to say he won't get there...with a good coach, he definitely can...but I don't think he's there yet. I wish he came back for his sophomore year...I think he would have played inside a lot more with the emergence of Phillips and we'd be talking about a different player with less questions. Would that have altered his draft spot? idk. As I've said in other threads...just because a player is projected as a R1 player in some jabrones WAY TOO EARLY MOCK DRAFT, doesn't mean he's destined for a R1 pick a year later.

As I discussed in another thread...he could be a R1 player still...but everything points to him being on the fringe of R1 right now. Vegas currently has him at 30.5 for the O/U.

You’re phrasing the question all wrong. If you’re picking in the top 15 you aren’t very good. Who are you gonna stake your job on? If you take Rousseau at 10 and he takes 3 years to develop you might not be around to see it. Guys get fired for missing on 1st rounders. Now if none of them get taken in the top 20 it’s a different story. Nobody expects the 25th pick to dominate his rookie year.

With that being said I’m taking Phillips if it’s top 20. If both are still there at 25 and neither one of them we’re gonna start for me, I’d lean Rousseau. It’s all about your roster.

Depends on my needs at DL. If I need help at DE now I take Phillips. If I can spend a first round pick on a luxury prospect, GR15.

More interesting question, which Cane do you take first, all time? And that has to be based on what you project coming out of college, not on what they actually did in the NFL.
If the question is era-agnostic I take Jim Kelly. Potential franchise QB coming out of college (to be fair to the question), and certainly became one. And then throw Bernie and Vinny into the equation. Bernie was a franchise prospect QB in his era, and Vinny was an uber-prospect. The QB position is the most important position in the NFL.

Otherwise, I take Jerome Brown, Ray Lewis, Warren Sapp, Ed Reed, or Sean Taylor. Hendricks is tough for me to judge since he played in the late 60s.

Now that's a hot take. I have not heard one person say that but you. Hope Greg balls out though but I think Phillips is a more complete football player IMO but I can't say either it he best defensive player in the draft. Hope they end up as the 2 best though, good for the program.
This reminds me exactly of the 2008 draft with Calais Campbell. He was the best defensive player in that draft and fell to the middle/late second. Go look at who was taken ahead of him and what people were saying about those guys at that time. GR is a rare specimen. It’s laughable people saying he ran a bad 40 etc. How many guys at a true 6’7 at his size run 4.7 40s? The guy will make NFL players look like freshman.

I can see the CC comp, he just doesn't scream NFL star to me. Obviously I could be wrong and only time will tell. Like I said I hope they are both 10 year NFL monsters.

4.7 is good for that size that's moving. To think he transformed his body super fast to when he got here. I just don't like his get off......I think he still isn't even developed yet. He can be all pro withhold coaching

What a bad draft 2008 was. I went back and looked at the DL taken ahead of Callis, and with the exception of Chris Long all were trash. Long had a solid career with 70 sacks, 50 in his first 6 seasons.

Phillips is going before Rousseau. Has starting potential now, while GR has longer term future growth/upside if developed properly...
Which is weird, because had GR not sat out, Phillips wouldn't have started over him in college.
