Where we Fall in the HC Pecking Order

Gonna be a crazy coaching market of musical chairs for some big programs. If Miami isn't careful, they could be left standing without a seat (i.e. a sh1tty option).

FSU
Miami
LSU
Oregon
USC
Penn State

And others that will be surprises. Don't be surprised if Mack Brown hangs it up after this year if UNC continues to lose.

I’d say we’re right on par with West VA, Syracuse, Cal & Colorado in terms of attractiveness of the job.

Miami is not the program it was 20 years ago, we used to be a top 5-10 job in college football, now we’re in the middle of the pack & with the lack of effort put forth by our BOT it can be argued that even G5 schools like Cincinnati, SMU, BYU & San Diego St are better jobs than Miami right now.

The recruiting angle is really oversold, simply due to the fact none of the elite local recruits ever come here anyway, so just because we’re located in a hot zone for great athletes doesn’t really make our program that much more attractive to legit HC’s considering they can still get the South FL athletes where they already are without having to Coach here.

Miami has the potential to be a great job, but the reality is our Admin/BOT don’t care about Football & have essentially thrown 2 decades worth of water over the fire of what used to be Miami at it’s pinnacle.

Although our BOT and the people running this program have been confirmed to be lacking common sense, I’d imagine they’re at least having conversations amongst themselves
No Manny is toast, barring a miraculous turnaround. That doesn't mean they won't make another bad hire, but it'll be a new face.

I don't think Norvell is going anywhere. He finally figured out the athletic QB is the one that makes his OL look less putrid.

It may be hard to accept, but this is the new reality. Miami wasn't a job for everybody even when things were rolling, so good luck finding someone capable of fixing this mess.

USC yes.

LSU, while having a great recruiting base and more resources, also has a WAAAAY harder path to championships. Both conference and national.

So I could see a certain kind of coach choosing to come to Miami over LSU.

Recruiting is tied between the two.
Resources/pay LSU wins
Path to win Miami wins
Somehow three LSU coaches have won national championships on that "WAAAAY harder path" in about the same time frame the five Miami coaches haven't even won the ACC on that 'WAAAAY easier path'.

Interesting.

I think we have different needs than LSU... USC coach faces the same basic issues as we do.

Miami is a short runway with a lot of **** to clean up. At this point its going to have to be someone who wants to be here more than anywhere or someone who has absolute confidence in himself.

I would rank LSU the top job and USC and Miami tied for #2.

This has been obvious for years and it still hurts to read.

Best thing about LSU job?

Entire state cares about the Tigahs

Worse thing(s) about LSU job?

Entire state cares about the Tigahs and Louisianians are bat**** crazy (e.g. no other high-resource program would've hired Coach Orangutan in 2016 nor would any other fire a favorite son two years after he won a National Championship with the best team in school history).

The delusion that this program will ever attract a coach that would satisfy this fanbase is the **** that you ****ìng clowns will live in for the rest of your life while you continue to call for a reset every 2 or 3 years. You deserve the pain.

It might get easier to win at lsu if they decide to put bama/auburn in east, when tx/ou come to town.
TX being the "flagship" program between the two, they'll go to the East with UGA/FLA and OU will go to the gauntlet in the West. SEC will generate more $$$ with TX/Bama SEC title games than OU/Bama. You have to think they had this figured out before they left the Big 12.

But to answer the question, regardless of what the situation is, I think a coach picks LSU over us every time because of the $$$ and resources available to him.

SC and LSU are superior jobs because they offer unlimited resources.

Miami is behind those two jobs. Miami is a job that is unique because you have some of the things that can make for a great job(Availability to a local recruiting hotbed), nice campus, tradition), but you also have to work within constraints(Academic Standards, budget, small donor pool). For the right kind of coach, Miami is great, but for the typical coach, Miami can be extremely tough. This is why the powers that be have to think outside the box in regards to a coach, find someone that can win with obstacles, someone that is used to and thrives in an environment where you can't just throw money at every problem. Jeff Hafley, Dave Clawson, etc are guys that have shown the ability to win despite not having a ton of resources, guys that get the most out of the talent available. NFL guys are used to not being able to straight up outtalent teams, because the salary cap brings parity. That's why I want Miami to interview Kellen Moore and Eric Bieniemy as well. They would thrive at a place like Miami, because they are already pro coaches, and Miami is the closest thing to a pro job at the collegiate level.
I think the HC just needs to get his job done in the Coastal, & build on that to win the ACC. If he does that, croots will come. All the other limitations has been on Miami not doing a good enough job entrenching itself into the SoFL community. Miami Ath. Dept. needs to grassroots this thing.

I totally agree but also keep in mind these coaches who are 35 - 50 years old grew up during a time period where Miami was dominant. Some of them still think of Miami as the U and not just a middling coastal division program.

Miami is easily behind those two schools. They’ll never attract a top candidate unless there’s a major tie, hence the Mario buzz. Miami just needs to hire the right coach. Everyone thought Texas hired the “top guy” in 2017 which evidently didn’t work out.

Miami just needs to do a thorough search and interview process. Even if Mario wants in interview Stoops, Clawson and Kiffin. Make sure you aren’t just marrying the first girl you kiss.

Ultimately Miami needs to commit to a good coach and give legit money for a good staff. It seems as if the second portion started to happen under Manny.

In terms of most attractive job, USC blows Miami out the water and it isn’t really close lol. USC is a top 2-4 job in the country, without any hesitation.
