Where Alonzo Needs to Make a Difference

Seems Zo‘s job is running the football organization, but doubt he has any power over Mario. He’s not going to order coaches fired. Nor should he. You think there’s a disconnect now, what would happen if Zo started replacing coaches? Get over that thought now.

Mario would be wise to listen to Zo’a advice though.

So he gets Mario’s coffee… “alpha” move 👀

The value of adding Alonzo to the staff won’t be felt if at all till the off season. To these kids he’s a dinosaur.

in recruiting evaluations is what is between the ears of recruits.

Traits like mental toughness and being someone who embraces the suck of football are just as important as the measurables.

This is where mediocre ACC brands beat us, by getting three-stars with a couple redeeming physical traits, paired with football IQ and a real desire to beat the man in front of them.

Where this matters a lot is in the evaluations of the blue-chip prospects.

Will the 5-star safety you’re recruiting be willing to learn, or will he arrive on campus and think his **** don’t stink?

Poor evaluations have plagued this program for 20 years, and Mario and Zo need to not just recruit guys on the 247 list, but the RIGHT guys on the 247 list.

lots of truth in this, this program needs guy who actually love the game of football..

I agree and I believe Mario has plenty of advisors on staff. I don’t think Mario is as stubborn as a lot believe he is. We’ll find out in the off season. I think when people like reed, Taylor, strong, and highsmith speak Mario is listening. We will have to see the type recruits he brings in. Evaluation and development butch was the best at that.

Zo’s job is to help coach evaluate recruits, players and staff. He is also the ADs man inside.

I don't really care about stars, just go after the players who will come here bust their *** in the weight room and film room and don't come here to party. Maybe require recruits to have a certain GPA or something? Idk

I'm sure he has no power whatsoever over Mario. Basically, a figurehead "job."

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. The first person who can tell me Alonzo's exact job description and how he accomplishes that job,

will be the first person to do so

I've explained it many times before, I'm not going to waste my time again for the same-old, same-old mopey porsters.

Yet you waste your time posting this crap response. Amazing

Must have missed it. We did join the site around the same time and you do have 25,000 more posts than me, so I have no doubt you have posted his job description multiple multiple multiple times.

Recruiting is NOT where we need his help. Building out a staff and identity that matches football in 2022 is
boom.gif

Our fanbase is so used to mediocrity that we can't reconcile what a championship roster is supposed to look like, and we keep thinking the talent & depth we have is anywhere close to competing with big-time programs.

The first thing we have to do is compete on the recruiting trail before we can compete on the field. We have the highest-rated OT & CB in the country committed to our incoming class with the #4 TE. The top-rated LB & RB remain on the board as well and we're in contact with them.

We need the best players, because great players win games and make coaches look good.

I disagree. I think the fanbase, especially the folks on this board, understand PERFECTLY that this roster hasn't been in a position to compete with the likes of Bama or GA. Why must you go to extremes? What we are talking about here is at least winning the coastal division more than one time since 2004. You know who else has won the Coastal Division only one time? Duke and Virginia.

Who's going to extremes?

You gotta win the costal division, then the conference championship, then the we can start talking Bama or GA.

We're not built for any of that.

This season had been an unmitigated disaster. This isn't debatable at this point. The one glimmer of hope I have seen outside of recruiting & the money pumped into the program that has separated this current staff from the last few, at least at this early juncture, is the early indicator of improved evals. For those questioning this ask yourself who are the best players or those flashing the most right now ?

1. Kam- after taking early lumps has turned a corner in his development and playing well
2. LT- coach Joe hasn't done too much on the trail just yet but it lends to believe he's helped LT take a step forward and become more consistent.
3. Mesidor- our biggest portal add. Imagine the defense without him 😱
4. Rivers- some up and down play from him and recent injury doesn't help but he's the steadiness hand on our line right now.
5. Wesley B- MC likely waited too long to insert into the starting lineup but he looks like he belongs, need a few more like him.
6. Colbie- JC transfer and made an immediate impact, simply a good eval here.
7. Brashard- stepped up in Restepos absence, Gattis of course underutilizing him with restrepo back.
8. Cooper- 3 star kid from Bama who has been an impact freshman for us, great find.
9. Parrish- it sucks having lost Chaney/Citizen but he's played admirably behind an injured o line and trash offensive system.
10. Nyjalik- hasn't played a ton and needs to continue physical development but immediately stands out, thank God we were able to get this kid.

Those are 4 portal kids and 3 true freshman. 7/10 is a pretty good eval rate for impact and contribution. This 2023 class is beyond pivotal. If we can have a hit rate of roughly 2/3 of that class panning out + more from the portal we'll at least have a real foundation to build on. To tie this all together the right OC hire is pivotal. Can't afford to f*** that up, but evals and recruiting/portal provide us the path out of mediocrity if NC wakes up to modern offense.
Excellent & spot-on points. Only nitpick is 7 . . . impressed with Brashard when TVD was playing, but right now can't say he's under utilized because there is no one to throw him the ball. Brown is extremely raw as a passer & Garcia is a human turnover machine.

Yeah, now you're gonna get passive-aggressive about it.

You don't know much, you don't post much, but you feel entitled to post demeaning comments about the job title/job description/job performance of a person who is far more talented than you are.

Sure. You're entitled, and you're going to act like you are entitled. Meanwhile, Alonzo gets more done in a day than you've accomplished in a lifetime.
