When your head coach has to take over your DC job mid season and you still keep your job

I know calling plays is equally as important on each side of the ball but I kind of wouldn’t mind taking a leap with Raymond at LSU or bringing Simpson back to run it. I feel like that’s the only way we get the guy on that side of the ball. Take the risk. If Manny did take over for Baker, what’s the difference in taking our shot?

It’s all part of the optics for Manuela.

“My side of the ball is good and has been since I was the DC here. You can blame me for the offense, but I’m fixing it.”

He thinks he can get by with overall numbers as a reason to keep everybody, assuming the average fan doesn’t know the real story when we play decent teams and the complete negligence of recruiting on that side.

He never took over the defense. He just said that to take some of the heat off Baker.

Diaz hand has always been on the defense. Word to the striker position still being apart of this defense.
A tactful and graceful way to say, "I'm taking over. This isnt LaTech anymore."

That’s because the striker is part of every 4-2-5 defense. Other teams might have a different name or a different way they use the position however.

Blake is Manny's butt buddy, that's why he's still here. We gave up more bone headed plays on defense last season then we have since no d was strolling the sideline. There is no chance we bring in a high level dc. As long as Manny is here, he'll have his hands involved in the d.

How does Miami off a 6-7 season not look to upgrade at any position especially on defense with a proven DC - Charlie Strong available to be added to the staff...?

At least explore the possibilities with just an ask!. If you don't - it has to be deemed as negligible in your job... Period.

The defense is going to get lit up next year when we finally have a serviceable offense.
