When you guys watched Mendoza, did you really think "Oh, yeah, this guy should be the #1 overall pick in the draft!!!!"

Both guys knocked for their arm strength pre-draft.

Jared Goff was and is a below average NFL athlete at QB

So was Matt Ryan.

Ferny ran for more yards this year than both of them combined throughout their college careers.

We can split hairs over their 1:1 comp and Goff and Ryans careers can skew your view..but Mendoza is that level of prospect.

Prototype size, smarts, leader of men...questionable arm strength and some individual warts but a nice QB prospect that will have a nice career in the NFL.

If you dont think Tom Brady was on that sideline and thought anything less than ol boy is a dawg that he'd be excited to have...idk what to tell you.

Baker Mayfield and Pat Mahomes once had an underrated classic when they were at OU and TTech. Cal v. Miami last year reminds me of that now with Cam and Ferny.

Fernando Mendoza has never not won. Won every year in middle school even as a backup. Took COLUMBUS to their only two state titles. Won a Natty at Indiana.

Hes gonna be just fine in the NFL.

Slurp much? "Ferny" is just gross.

Mendoza did not play well, but he was abused all night long. I can’t really make a determination on his NFL prospects, because unless he’s going to the Titans he will be better protected than he was last night.

However I’ve never been high on him as an NFL QB, outside of last night. He’s a fighter, fiery, and seems to lead by example. Great qualities that GMs will love him for, and in some ways he reminds me of Purdy. Timing is everything, scrambles fairly well, although Purdy is better off platform. Mendoza does not seem to reset his base or have the power and control to rip the ball in a backyard play breaking way. He is a pocket passer who doesn’t navigate traffic especially well, and won’t have 3 WRs who make 50/50 catches out of the gate. If his completion percentage drops into the low 60s in the NFL, I’m not sure what you have long term.

If he develops into Peyton Manning I’ll be wrong, I don’t think he excels in any area that will mask his overall weaknesses.

Not at all. He’s a game manager. A very very good game manager. He got the Heisman in the year where there was no one else to give it to. He’s fine. Not elite.

What round do you think he will be drafted?
3rd to 4th.
If teams have serious concern about his elbow still ( and his deep balls this yr didn't help him in any way in this area this season), then maybe 5th at worst.

I would feel better with Mendoza going to a team like the Steelers where he'd have support and some kind of weapons rather than a barren disaster like the Raiders, where he is going to have an absolutely awful rookie year through no fault of his own.

It's a weak QB Draft, GMs are stupid and every team is desperate for a QB - so probably the 4th or 5th.
That would make him an NFL prospect, although I think he goes higher.

My suspicion is that he ends up as our highest-drafted QB since 1990, aside from Cam.

I didn't. I mean, he's gutsy, but I thought he was good-ish and gutsy. I would be ****ED if my team wasted a #1 overall pick on him. Not trying to be sour grapes and congrats to him on his natty, but meh. He didn't seem elite to me.
If we didn't start the game by giving his WR's a 8+ yard cushion he wouldn't have looked nearly as good. He didn't have to make a tight throw during the entire first half.

Cam is the only QB we've had drafted before the 5th round since Walsh back in 1989.

So.. you thinkin Beck goes in the 4th round?

Side note, Mendoza’s younger brother is transferring to GT! He is going to pay the broken plates his brother left!!!

Heart ain’t going to cut it in the NFL. Ask Tebow. I would absolutely not draft him. Imagine in Tennessee behind Cams line. He won’t last long, and this is the pinnacle of his career.

He’s huge, brilliant, competitive, dependable, tough & athletic. Plenty of arm. He’s perfect for an NFL system.

Frankly looked like he was running a HS offense. RPO or back shoulder…zero progressions. Sure he was under pressure, but didn’t show he can extend and process. I don’t see it. If I’m a Raider fan I’m praying we trade down.
