What's your key matchup of the game?

The matchups of their offense vs our defense don't concern me, because they are going to score with the talent they have on offense regardless of what we do (our LBs aren't good enough to stop their dynamic perimeter guys). The question to me is can our o-line protect Beck well enough that we can score with them? They are getting their 30+ points the question is can we keep up?

They are going to isolate our LBs in space with KC and their RBs.

LBs also have to worry about Reed getting loose.

I know our DL will hold their own, but we’re going to need to get pressure on Reed asap. I worry about our secondary holding up when Reed extends plays with his feet.
This...I think Elko is going to look at the UL game and build a gameplan off that, with a mobile QB.

He does not want to let our DEs be a problem in this game, so we need to be able to play those underneath routes tight, and buy a little more time, somehow. But you are right, if he extends plays, we have seen other Qbs find soft spots in the zone. Communication will be big.

Offensively I feel good. We are doing so many different things now, the secondary should be on their heels early. The one concern I have is, and will continue to be Beck, when he gets deep into progression and starts to get happy feet, then forces passes. As long as he pulls the ball down, and Dawson gives him outlets, we should be fine.

P
Goosby made some money that game..

no stat only watcher but I did notice against better comp Howell’s numbers plummeted. Now I have yet to see pressure numbers in those same games. So idk if he was still super effective and just didn’t get home on sacks

Pretty sure he's referencing the VT game, where they basically ran through our defense with a mobile QB drawing the majority of our attention.
Was just poor tackling that game imo. Thomas injury and no Scott etc some guys just struggled with adjusting to those two being out

We’ve shut down plenty of boogeyman mobile QBs this year

Reed and the WRs will be the toughest test so far though but Reeds accuracy isn’t the best

Bain and Mesidor vs. the A&M tackles

NEED them to live in the backfield and cause a turnover or 2 and I think we have a good shot

I'll be watching our linebackers in coverage. They're going to go after Toure. His coverage has been and probably will an issue for us.
I agree that the above is always something to look for but Hetherman has done an excellent job the last few weeks of making this a non issue. I can't tell you exactly what he has done to adjust but it has worked very well.

I've got Markel Bell v. Cassius Howell. Size and length versus twitch and second effort.

This matchup is big in the pass game and run game. Texas A&M is the top sack percentage team in America but has had struggles against the run (see Texas game).
Considering Howell moves to both sides I would say Bell and CiCi.

I think it's our Run D versus their RB's. If we can contain them it's going to be very hard for them move the ball on us. Yes they have great WR's but stopping the run first will help the DL get those 3rd and longs and eat.

Also special teams is going to be important. Their kicker has not been good this year. Both teams have great punt returners in Toney and Concepcion.

Reuben Bain vs Trey Zuhn
This is the one I’m circling. Not because I think k Bain can be contained. You can manage him, but he’s going to impact the game.

I’m watching that because Bain can single handily win the game for us if he has a ND/UF type of game. The minute he requires extra attention the rest of the guys get to wreak havoc.

Turnovers. Miami wins that battle they win the game.

Carson Beck vs Elko. Carson needs to read the defense well and you know Elko going to be scheming up disguised looks

Our dline vs their QB with keeping him in the pocket.

Yall keep talking about the Louisville game if our defense plays the same way and beck doesn’t throw 5 into we win by 14. So im not worried about defense. Im worried which beck shows up.
