What's the deal with Deeb?

@ brazil...I feel you on the vid...Taylor and I would have scuffled for that. Yeah he got caught trying to spin but that is where I referenced his tech. (which could always be improved through coaching). But as you have highlighted, he wont be offered on potential alone. If he wants an offer, is willing to work for it, and earns one then he will get one. If after hands on evaluation he does not end up getting an offer, then I trust the coaches and that they apparently have someone else with more skills and potential in mind. In that case I wish Deeb the best
Agree...

By the way, we always heard about coach Golden methods, and how he does not BS or deceives recruits... I think Deeb´s case fits it perfectly. Coach D told him where he is and why he does not have an offer yet in an article I read. I really like this approach... sure, some players will get mad(Bosa?), but others will take it as motivation to earn an offer, and from what I read, that was Deeb´s response to coach D.

Like you, I really trust our coaches and the player is aware of what he needs to do to earn his offer. As a fan of the position, Deeb is one of my favorites in 2013 class, but we finally have a coach with a plan(for every facet of the program), and even if Deeb become an All American in Penn State or Notre Dame, my view of the coaches will not change. No one can hit 100%...

I also like his (Deeeb's) film, he is all over the field and like his aggressiveness. Think he has the potential (based on measurables)to be a beast if he irons out his wrinkles (improves speed, coverage skills and techniques). Again I will allow the coaches to do their jobs.

It sure is nice to have a staff that knows what they are doing. They know their system, and seem to be doing a good job of evaluating who fits and who does not. I know the win/loss does not reflect that yet but I feel confident that we are heading in the right direction.

Great post. I'm curious however as to what coach D told Bosa as to why he didn't have an offer and what he had to do to get one.

There's some really good post in this thread by you guys.

I'm on the fence with Deebs cuz he's a good prospect but I look at how Miami is recruiting this year and I say is he as good or better than a few other linebackers? Imo he falls a little short compared to some. I think he is a Golden type of player(work ethic and etc) but this class with it being so small hard to take him. Maybe he really impresses at the camp we'll see, if he does and gets an offer I wouldn't be mad(like I was on a few kids in the '12 class).

I would like to see us get Thomas, Deeb and Grace.

What do people think of Grace compared to Williams and do both of these kids have us at the top? I haven't heard much on either.

this May be the best thread I've read on any board in a long time. This is what a recruiting post should look like. Thanks to everyone in this post I never heard of this guy before and now I have good insight about his abilities where he is on our board and how the coaches view him.

Thanks... just to clarify, I´m just speculating coaches said something to Bosa, by the way they are being transparent with Deeb... or they just don´t like him as prospect and said nothing. This Bosa situation is strange, but since coaches can´t talk about it(NCAA), maybe we will never know.

Sully, Deeb´s highlights(Junior). Keep in mind it´s his first year as linebacker:

EDIT:Sully, take a look also at CaneLB post(breakdown) of Deeb in the first page. Imo it´s perfect...

+1 this is a great thread.

Re: Grace vs. Williams, I really like them both. Both are sideline to sideline type of guys. I tend to lean towards Willimas because I think he is nasty. Likes to thump people and his highlights are full of big hits. Also he performs on special teams, on offense as a RB, safety, etc..kid is an athlete ad I think it says a lot when an upper classman, starter, plays on kickoff coverage. It might just be that the team is small but IDK.

Grace is a playmaker! has the speed to take it to the house on a turnover. Would be pleased with one or both in next years class.

Grace has a much higher ceiling than Williams since he has a bigger frame and appears to be the more fluid athlete on film. Grace will be 6'2 230+lbs in college whereas Williams is about 5'11 but it well put together. Miami has done well before with LBs with his size (Spence, Perryman, Beason, etc). Grace has a chance to be 'the goods'. His coverage skills and range have me salivating....my second favourite LB prospect after Thomas. Another thing to consider with Williams is his grades. Lots of smoke that this kid will have trouble qualifying at a place like Miami.

+10^^^^^^^^^^

I like the flexibility of Jermaine Grace....He likely can play all 3 lb spots.....and dude has a long , wiry frame...wait till he hits the college weightroom and training table....

Definately want Williams...but Grace is one of the backers i definately want too....

Anthony Walker out of Pace is also one to watch...and i think St Thomas has a sleeper at lb...

+1 on valid and gogeta.

Grace is one of my favorite players in the class. He reminds me of Tracy Howard at a different position. Great recognition and awareness, fluid, physical, playmaker. His size is no different than Spence and David coming out of MNW. He's probably bigger.

So D$.

If Miami's LB class this year consisted of Thomas, Grace, and Deeb would you consider that a big W on the recruiting trail.

Or would you rather see Miami take someone other than Deeb?

Thomas and Grace are a big W by themselves. I'll hopefully see Deeb in camp so I'll withhold judgment until then. A lot of his question marks can be answered in that setting.

Thomas is a no brainer. Grace has some serious wheels and can lay the wood. D$ I am sure he reminds you of T. Howard cause they wore the same uni's last year at Miramar. But I agree with you, Thomas and Grace would be lovely, and I am sure Golden and staff have their eye on some out of state cats too.

Will be interesting to see if we take 3 LBs in this class. I say no considering the small class and the fact that we have bigger needs elsewhere (OL, TE, DT, S, RB)

Video of American Heritage's Spring Game was not very promising. Deeb often looked lost. I think there is a reason a LB with his size and tools hasn't been offered.

It's more than that, but gotta give credit to Coach Cogdell and his staff. The players coming out of there are college ready, fundamentally sound and play smart on the field.

Grace's ceiling is obvious, and I recognize I'm in the minority on this, but I would take Williams over him in a heartbeat. Williams is a natural born linebacker. His film reminds me of Perryman's the way they just attack and unload on people. If Williams can qualify I just don't see how we don't take him especially when Thomas could potentially grow into an end.

I like Deeb too but as others have said we need to make some tough cuts with this class. I have no problem slow playing him especially considering his reported interest level in us.

I'm wondering if we have any chance to pull Hutchings from DLS. A trio of him, Thomas, and Grace would be out-of-this-world good and give three unique skill sets that a creative DC could get crazy with.
