It's been a long time since its been fun watching the defense play. It's been even longer to see all this positive energy around the program.
We head into the bye 3-0, getting healthy, and begin entering ACC play.

Although we're 3-0 and have looked much, much better than before, we can improve in some areas. One thing I noticed the last couple of weeks against FAU and App Store is that sometimes we sacrifice gap integrity for all out pressure, and we've been gashed for long TD runs (although one was called back). I personally would like to see a slight bit more gap integrity and a reduction of off side penalties (on both sides).

What have you gents, and ladies, noticed that you would like to see improve after the bye?

Depth, and our DE tend to go up field too fast and get caught inside on outside runs sometimes.Penalties need to stop or it will cost us against better teams.I would also like to see us go deep more often.

cut down on penalties - we are nearly as bad as last year through our first three games.
If we don´t get rid of this mess it will cost us a game eventually.

Kayaa's decision making. Too many ints against lesser opponents.
True, sh*t happens, he has the same td/int rationas watson but with 11% better completion rate

Give him a pocket and everthing is fine, under pressure and on the run is a total different story. The pick on 4th and goal showed that perfectly. I am praying for our oline to stay healthy.

Kaaya was very good under pressure Saturday 9-10 180plus yards 2td on 3rd down. But point taken, for the most part that is true since he isn't a mobile qb

Definitely for me it's the penalties. Need to clean it up. I also want. like stated above, the DEs to rush with more control. Instead of them going a million miles per hour, I wish they would slow down a little and keep their head on a swivel.

Seems like the penalties are at least more effort/attitude penalties, instead of the illegal procedures/false starts. I still don't think we've seen much of the offense; maybe a combination of easing into it and holding back for harder opponents.

Seemed like Diaz was actually more conservative against App St. I might be wrong, but it didn't look like he was blitzing nearly as much. It was definitely a good game for the defense and especially the freshmen, to play a team like that, with all the cut blocking they do.

Our cheerleaders. App State definitely beat us in the cheerleader dept. :canes3:

Hard to say considering the quality of opponents we have faced thus far.

Every single O that we face from here on out will be better than our first 3 opponents and also probably true for every D we face (App Store D was very good against the run -we had 30 carries for just 84 yards after the Walton 80 yarder)

BTW- This is a very good question by the OP. I dont think our coaches are sitting around ignoring our weaknesses. They are confronting them and making the changes needed to correct them. With that said ,I know many on here get upset at the mention that we may have a weakness or two to address.

The D has way too many open lanes off tackle....OL fire out faster....WRs yards after the catch on bubbles.... penalties....FB pass needs to develop faster or make TE 2nd option...

Oline and secondary... When we play teams with a pulse, I want to see how they respond

Thats for sure dude... I glad we dont play Ole miss because they would walk the dog on our cheerleaders. Now I know what its like to be Duke.
