and what type of offense will we see this year?
With a QB like Brad Kaaya and the weapons we have I think we should line up in the Shotgun and run an uptempo offense that emphasizes getting the ball out quick. I don't think a conventional style suits us particularly because of all the question marks on the offensive line. Kaaya should have full control of the offense and I would like to see us ditch the " check with me look to the sidelines" approach.
UM hasn't had a QB of this caliber in a very long time. We need to take advantage of that. I can envision an offense that really pushes tempo and has Kaaya spead the football around to his many playmakers. With targets like Coley, Scott, Waters, Berrios, Yearby, Gray, Walton, Herndon and Njoku, that shouldn't be a problem. I also would like to see Coley utilize his RBs in the passing game much more than he has lately. IMO there is no reason that we can't have an effective running game out of the shotgun if we spread teams out.
Last years plodding type of pace will not allow us to realize our potential on offense. We have plenty of talent on offense if it is utilized properly. As far as what I expect from James Coley this year, it's really hard to say. I would think that Coley will most likely have us in 3 WR the majority of the time. My questions are how he integrates the H backs(Herndon Njoku) into the offense in terms of different formations. We should be able to create good mismatches against most defenses. Coley has a great opportunity this season to show that he is up to the task and that he is able to get the most from his talent. Our recent history doesn't exactly inspire confidence however. We'll see.
