Don’t need a script, but let’s step into Dawson’s seat for a second. What should the Canes be doing in this matchup?

Use the whole field.

I personally want to see more perimeter runs with Pringle and quick strikes by Beck to the spot where the blitzer has vacated. But I definitely want to also see some Fletcher and CharMar smash mouth and a few verticals to Daniels and Marion. Toney will do what Toney does.

Just be multiple and take what the defense gives you because they will leave space open.

Do what we’ve done the last 4 weeks.

Of course, find a way to get Toney the ball and use him as a decoy throughout the game. Motion in the backfield and keep their defense thinking on its heels.

Let Beck get in a rhythm and make some short throws to other players not Toney or CJ. Run the ball down their throats and make short passes to negate their pass rush.

I’d like to see some early check downs to Fletcher and Pringle.

We have to establish the run…especially early on. That can’t just be three yard chunks behind the guards. We have to be willing to try to get out to the perimeter and even use Beck on occasion. Also, it would be nice to get the TE’s involved in the intermediate passing game. That would open things up nicely.
In addition, it would be nice to see some new Mali-Cat bag plays.

Get Beck in rhythm early with easy passes outside of the screen game. Those easy boundary throws to Marion or Daniels or Lofton out of the backfield in the flats something like that. I am worried about us going super Fletcher heavy early which can get us in some 3rd and long and I don’t want that at all.

On defense, FIND WAYS TO KEEP TOURE OUT OF COVERAGE PLAYS.

Run to the outside and put pressure on the edges of their defense, their edge rushers and not good against the run. Utilize the TE, they struggle against TEs. Finally get the receivers in space, specifically Malachi “Baby Jesus” Toney and Keelan “Lace Ya Boots Up” Marion, they have the worst tacking secondary in college football, Tony and Marion both have the ability to make guys miss, those missed tackles will lead to big game changing plays.

I think the second half of the year proved the offense is more efficient when they let Beck establish a rhythm first with passing on early downs, and then running it when the defense is not firing off as fast

+ Run at Marsh (outside zone, pin and pull).
+ PA to the same side with underneath routes and concepts that force him to run down the field and tackle (WR and RB screens).

3-4 yards a pop here would do wonders for the 4th quarter of a close game. He’ll fold and those gains will turn into 8-10yd runs to ice the game.

Thats almost identical to what UT did to them.

Limit turnovers. Use Pringle more than fletcher.

Less WR screens.

Toney needs to touch the ball at least 15 times.

More jet sweeps and motion to open up the inside runs for Fletcher.

Push the ball downfield so the don’t drop safeties into the box.

Limit pre-snap penalties. It must stop.

If I’m the OC, I’m putting Cassius Howell in conflict all night. Make him defend both the run and the pass. I’m running right at him early, letting Bell lean on that smaller frame and forcing him to be physical snap after snap.

From there, I’m trusting Beck to do what he does. Let him air it out, but with enough run mixed in to keep A&M honest. Once Howell starts cheating one way, that’s when you hit him over the top or isolate him in space. Make him prove he can hold up for four quarters.
