What do you see us doing differently this year, schematically?

Less reliance on the offensive line. More emphasis on explosive plays. Less emphasis on long methodical drives. More 11 and 10 personnel

Same as usual, or do we tweak things to fit this year's personnel?
Yes, according to the Austin POD, that’s what Dawson does. Adapting to the offensive personal and the QB. He mentioned that Mensah seems to be the best of both worlds between Ward/Beck. So I’m guessing that’s the direction Dawson goes. And, if that’s the case we should be spectacularly efficient.😂

I'd like to see some more 4 (or even 5) wide situational tempo.

Not saying to run 80+ plays a game but it would be nice and scary to know the team can run a 2 minute offense at will and being able to practice it regularly throughout the season would build their confidence.

Imagine trying to defend:

Toney
Barkate
Lofton (starts in the backfield then motions out)
Moore/Jacobs
Upshaw/Wingo/Vaughn

One thing Miami has to do different is get off to fast starts. Started slow in too many games. Indiana a perfect example. Shut out first half. Syracuse, Stanford, Louisville and even SMU had the lead but only scored 10 1st half points.

Less of the bailing technique on the backed with the corners. And start playing more press coverage we got the dbs to do so

More misdirection plays, those creativity plays we saw like when they faked it to Toney and gave it to fletcher for a td vs Indiana. Less see more of that but farther out from the end zone too

- Pistol formation far more often earlier in the season. Idgaf what anyone says it’s been more effective two years in a row now. **** I wouldn’t mind u see center as well, Mensah did it a bit at Tulane pretty sure.

- FAR MORE rotation (WR, DLine, DB, etc). This is let to say this past season was really a negative here… like ultimately Bain, Mesidor, Scott, etc were elite. But this years roster we just have more quality depth that we would heavily benefit by the end of the season if we get more guys rotated in earlier in the season. We have to take some growing pains at LB, OLine, Te, Wr, etc in order to be in the strongest position by the end of the season.

- More 4 WR and 2 RB sets. TE is a weakness. I basically want to see as little 12 personnel as possible this season. We just don’t have the horses at TE to be going 12 more than like 7 snaps per game. Obviously I don’t think or even want us to PRIMARILY be a 10/20 personnel team.. but if say we were running those looks 5% of the time, then we need to bump that up closer to 25% of the time.

- AGRESSIVENESS. Try to blow out every team from start to finish. Be aggressive on special teams. Be aggressive passing down the field (will help open run game). Go for 4th downs (I lack confidence in our Kickers). We have to be far more aggressive EARLY in the season this year. And setting that tone and culture early and often will pay dividends at the end of the season

I believe we go back to the 2024 offense w/ Cam because the numbers were there for all of the WR to eat…

However, I’d use a Josh Moore or another bigger body receiver to substitute for the TE if one doesn’t emerge, to handle the seam routes we lacked this year (2025).

On offense:
More two back sets - time for Lofton to be a true FB and less of a TE
More misdirection - have to make teams pause & find the ball
More QB bootlegs - Mensah on boots in the redzone
More sweeps - Being lighter & more athletic on the OL will allow for more pulling. This would help Pringle and Lyle as it fits their run style

Don’t care what it looks like. The only thing that matters is mentality. You gotta keep that last 4 games of the regular season style. No more game control against teams worse than you. Blow them out and don’t take your foot off the gas.

no one is focusing on the fact that last year Heatherman had to build an elite defense within 4 months

with a ton of new transfer players and coaches he had never even met before

now he has had 13 months to get his system into place and knows all the soldiers who will be enacting his orders.

we should be even more disciplined and violent!

A complete and total elimination of the Mali-Cat nonsense would be a good start.
it has a place in the offense, however i don't want to see him getting carries at tailback ... we have too many horses ... but i can see his pass attempts near ten this year
