Butch Davis is a football GOD!
Depends if you’re talking just college or not IMO
What did in the pros was impressive and certainly more than Saban achieved
HAsnt quite translated yet though in college but still early
I'd **** sure call him elite....He does what he does with 2* Hand me downs from OU...UT...OSU...Baylor...A&M...etc....Imagine what he'd do at UM...Always impressed by Gary Patterson’s work with TCU. Not sure I’d call him elite though.

You're explaining how people ignorant of context will arrive at assumptions. That's not an argument for actually bring the best coach. Why not Coker won one like Chizik it'll stick to them as something they've accomplished long after you and I aren't around.generations a 100 years from now will see it in the record books.coach's like woodson in basketball, coach k,bear Bryant,Nick saban will be called elite and it won't because they had the best players but by how many championships they've won
Obscene budgets alone do not make coaches elite, but yes it does help a lot. As you know, Harbaugh has lost head to head against Meyer despite his Michigan budget. Many coaches at Texas had enormous budgets and got tossed. Plus, Les Miles got booted at LSU despite having an LSU budget. The same program both he and Saban won a title with.
I'm not taking anything away from Richt. I'm one of his biggest fans. But far and away, Meyer and Saban proved that no matter what (big budget) program the land in, they will win a title.
What he did at San Diego was pretty crazy too.
There’s only two elite coaches imo.....Saban and Meyer.
Speaking of Harbaugh, do any of you remember something about Jim Kelly punching him in the face back in the late 90's when Harbaugh was playing for the Colts? Does that ring a bell with anyone?
Other way around I believe. I could be wrong.
