We've trailed for 3:27 in the 5 wins combined

We absolutely, positively CANNOT live with losing 3 of the next 5. Absolutely not. I'll be really upset if we lose 1 more game, and I don't think we will, but 2 is unacceptable and 3 is a ******* nuclear disaster and I will be moping right alongside the rest of the miserable pricks here if that happens.
I hear you, 3 would be pushing it. But thinking we can't drop 2 of Va Tech, Wake, and UNC is naive. Even @ NC St off a bye is concerning with MD's track-record.
And what if the interior O-line CONTINUES getting their collective heads bashed in w/o giving Campbell a look at G, or at least Rivers? What if we CONTINUE to limit King's rushes on RPO's? What if we CONTINUE to insist on out-repping younger, more athletic LB's with Jennings & McCloud? What if Ivey CONTINUES to out-rep Couch? What if Carter manages to not get DQ'd and CONTINUES getting equal reps with Bolden & #26? That's the self-inflicted stuff I'm referencing.

Pretty simple. Our offense has improved about, what? Forty places from last year? That will get you to 5-1 on a flawed team, such as this, compared to last year’s team with a few new players and new offensive staff.

Stll, it’s an offense that has sputtered in recent games, and a defense with some talent holes in specific position groups.

To me, the performances, and record, are not unexpected.

The ever-lowering of the UM standard continues. Sad stuff. Now, we've got allegedly demanding UM fans who "can live with" a 7-4 season playing against mainly trash and backup QBs.
Unfortunately, considering:

1.who's leading the team

2. particularly how sub-par the o-line
still is

8-3 would be acceptable. You're right 7-4 is pushing it.

I mean, I *LITERALLY* posted concrete evidence how it's NOT looking and feeling like 2017. It was an entire paragraph.

I hate it here.
I don’t think 2017 with a better offensive scheme and fairly dynamic QB is a bad comparison to this year at all actually. Concrete evidence of why it isn’t a Rosier led team maybe but not what it would have looked like with this offense and this QB. Slightly better wins with holy crap are we this bad moments littered throughout every game

This is amazing stuff. I appreciate the info. It's funny because yesterday, I randomly got to thinking like ****, as much as we've been winning "ugly", I don't remember playing from behind (except for the first game). I'm glad you actually posted the stats.

Safe to say the book is out for how to limit us offensively? And defensively, between a downgraded pass rush and resistance to playing the best players at various levels - there's reason for concern as to whether the success to this point is sustainable. Can live with losing 2, maybe 3 of the last 5 UNLESS losses are largely self-inflicted.
@RVACane In an era where birthrates are lower than at any point in American history, trolls still appear to be averaging 19 per household.

I stumbled onto this a few mins ago and it's pretty staggering....this board is filled with people lamenting the fact that we haven't won pretty enough, or by enough points, or the way they think we should have etc. etc. etc.

But this number is pretty telling, IMO.

In the 5 wins, there has been a total of 300 minutes of game time. Miami has trailed in the football game for a TOTAL of 2 minutes and 26 seconds in those 5 games. Total. Besides Clemson, we've been losing a football game for a whopping 2 minutes and 27 seconds this season.

Went down 7-0 to UAB after the fumbled punt.....next drive, TD to tie the game in 1:36, never trailed again

Went down 3-0 to Louisville, next drive, TD to take the lead in 1:51, never trailed again

Never trailed at any point in the FSU, Pitt, or UVA games.

So, for those of you saying that the 5-1 is a mirage, and we stink, and we're gonna get rolled later in the year...you might be right. But you can't point to recent history in order to make your points, either:

In the 2017 season (aka the last time we thought we might be a pretty good team), we were losing outright at the half to Toledo, we were losing with a minute left in the game to FSU, we were losing with a minute left in the game to Georgia Tech, we were losing most of the first half to UNC, we were losing literally the entire first half against UVA....and then a couple injuries and good teams later, it caught up to us.

Even going back to the team before that we thought might be good...2013. Started the year 7-0. Losing almost at the end of the 1st quarter to a terrible UF team, losing 17-7 to Georgia Tech at the end of 1, the Thursday night game at UNC where we had to pull the game out of our asses, we were losing with less than a minute to go in the game at home to Wake Forest, for Christ's sake.

I don't know, I'm not saying this is a great team by any means. I was incredibly disappointed in the offense on Saturday night. But we're 5-1, we've beaten 5 teams we should beat (haven't we all said for years "If we could just beat the teams we should" ??) and we've trailed for literally less than 1% of those 5 games. There was a little sweat there against UVA, and other than that I've had my feet up smoking a cigar in the 4th quarter of every other game. Are we not allowed to at least take some joy in that and see how the rest of the year plays out before we spray diarrhea in literally every thread?
Point of note.

That UF team was VERY talented. Yes they lost to Georgia Southern but allow me to channel my inner Gator Tears spirit and note they we top 10 prior to losing to us and all those injuries they suffered.

They lost to Al ******* Golden fair and square.

As an aside.

**** UF

Carry on good post.

7-4 would mean a 2-3 finish..that would not be acceptable at all..3-2 would be pushing it..4-1 down this stretch should be the expectation

Many board members emphasizes all the mistakes, regards of how minor, (ie not influencing the outcome of the game), exaggerates the shortcomings, while ignoring, or at the least downplaying, anything positives that this team has accomplished so far. Virginia played a great game, let's give them a little credit for their effort. As for myself, I pass on all judgement until the end of the season, no use in speculating the season will turn out as a disaster. It seems to me that many on this site want the season to end badly, as they have miserable little lives and want everyone else to be miserable also.

Excluding the 60 minutes of the Clemson game, how many minutes with Canes in the lead would a reasonable fan believe the game was no longer in doubt? Doesn’t matter.

The team has won the last two games, the first in an uninspiring manner, and the last in disappointing fashion. I agree 5-1 is the best record we could reasonably hope for. We were not beating Clemson. Overall team play needs considerable improvement or a few of the remaining games could end up increasing the Loss column.

As Bill Bellichk would say, “We’re on to NC State”.

Disregard the fact that the teams we have beat all suck a$$ and have losing records

You’re absolutely right...our wins have come against the crappiest of competition. Manny loves stats like this. The spin doctors are out in full force.

It's a great stat, nice find on it. Could it be this program is finally learning how to win close, sloppy games despite the obvious flaws?

We say this every week but NC State off a bye, on the road, in primetime will be telling. Coming out and smacking them sets the tone for the remaining portion of the schedule.
