We're on here talking about the Alabama offensive line coach, whose claim to fame is being humiliated and walking across a parking lot at FIU with a box full of his shlt. We're over here talking about coordinators. We're discussing a dude named Dino Babers for fvck's sake. What are we doing here? Really.

Miami plays in the single worst division in college football. Miami and Fort Lauderdale are the leaders for active NFL players with a total of 51. There is no better job in the country right now for an ambitious coach that wants to come down here and win games. You are surrounded by the best talent this nation has to offer and you get to bring them into battle every week against an assortment of cupcakes. Any coach looking to advance his career, or any guy who feels maxed out at his current gig and wants to think bigger, would come running down here in a second.

I think we're letting this school off the hook by offering up guys like Cristobal and Chud. F that. They need to spend money. They need to hire an actual football coach, not some "oh well ya know he COULD be good if he hires great coordinators" type of coach, and definitely not a "great recruiter." What the **** is this garbage? We are Miami.

We have an unbelievable opportunity here for the taking for any savage coach that wants to come fvck with talent and speed he's only dreamed of having at his disposal. We need to be thinking bigger, aiming higher, and expecting more. We need to hold the administration and the CornBreath search firm to a high standard. Get us a head coach from a power 5 conference that's done more with less. Forget ties, forget MIAMI GUYZ. Find a mean sumbltch that wants to tear da club up.

This job is an amazing opportunity. It's time we stop acting like the hot chick with no self-esteem.

Get me a Gundy, Patterson, Mullen, Chip, Dantonio, etc or gtfo of my sight.

Would love to see a Paterson, or Gundy at least considered. No harm in reaching out to them. What do they have to lose?

Hasn't worked for past 14 yrs. having bullets on the table means nothing unless you take those bullets and put in a weapon and then you aim and pull that trigger. Miami hasn't been that gun in a very long time.

Been saying it since Folden was shytcanned - there are a number of positives associated with this position. More so than the last two times we've needed to bring in a coach.

In addition to all of the points outlined above, this is a quick fix. We have a talented roster that has been squandered by a coaching staff that doesn't posses the ability to put players in a position to succeed.

OP is right on, as always. Candidates like Dud, Wario, and Schaino are garbage. They suck and if any of these guys didn't have Miami ties, even the dumbest of UM fans would be scratching their heads as to why they're being considered.

UM is apparently willing to spend and can entice coaches with a talented roster and the finest recruiting base in the country.

Go for the home run hire. Go for the guys that aren't perceived as available.

Guys like Dud and Wario should be "holy shlt, how did we fck this up, this is our last resort" type options.

Hasn't worked for past 14 yrs.

That's what happens when you hire peasants and peons.

Miami is an amazing job. Find the guy that wants it and pay him. Our last 3 hires have been lazy and lacked ambition.

Exactly how I see it, OP. This is the ultimate diamond in the rough for any ambitious HC. To be kicking around fired losers and retreads is ridiculous. Shoot for the moon.

Love this approach, and agree with everything you said.

Unfortunately, this admin/BOT has shown no ability to identify and sign said coaches. I have absolutely zero doubt the Wez could pick a better coach than we'll get.

I'm hopeful that this is what they'll do. I don't think anybody really knows who they're after. Here's to us being surprised

Disirregardless of the Butch debate, you're right. I find it really hard to believe this isn't a beyond attractive job for an ambitious young guy (Herman, etc) but there also HAS to be a big name college coach out there that is either (as WTH said) maxed out at his current spot or even more likely wants that bridge to the NFL. Any guy that comes in here and wins quickly will get pro offers faster than if he wins in Bumfuk for 10+ yrs straight.

nIqabhI.webp You know I don't speak Spanish Baxter.

With that said .... bring me that savage Herman.

Exactly. It hasn't worked for the past 14 years because we've hired 3 of the worst coaches of the past 14 years.

A competent coach will make winning look extremely easy here.

Whoever disagrees with this is being shortsighted. I think only a handful do.

Now, what do both of you (@WhatTheHell) say if or when we can't land one of those guys. The rhetoric is one thing. Making it happen is unfortunately another thing altogether. And, that doesn't make it right. It just makes it a possible reality.

So, what do you do if or when we shoot for the moon and miss?

The national media is the biggest contributor in the downplaying of our job. Those bafoons think gold plated bath tubs win you games and recruits

Any rational coach who wants to win knows our job is second behind USCw.

Their are plenty of coaches that are maxed out. All you have to do is scan the Big 12 and you will find them. Baylor, TCU and Okie St are not winning the recruiting wars. They flame out by getting beat by each other our by getting beat by Oklahoma. **** Okie St went toe to toe with Iowa St this past weekend after beating TCU.

If any of those dudes make the playoffs it because the stars were aligned, but they won't be in it every year.

As long as they pitch guys like Patterson and the other monsters, then I'm good with moving to the next tier. If the next tier (Herman) also rejects you, then I think you need better pitch men.

I think the pitch to guys like Patterson and Gundy are easier than many think. You tell Patterson "the job is yours. No interview. Sign and move in." I wouldn't be surprised if he realizes that he's in trouble next year at TCU without Boykin and Doctson. He could definitely slide next year to 8 wins. He needs to have a transcendent QB like Boykin to win at TCU; he doesn't need that here.

Gundy, it has been rumored loudly, has had a lot of problems with the brass at OSU. He will likely drop a game soon and find himself on the outside of the playoff picture. Maybe it's time for him to make a move.

Personally, I don't think we would fully strike out on a list of guys I'd categorize as Miami material. That's assuming a few things, though. We need to be willing to put the money up, this firm must conduct a thorough and national search, and we need to seriously and aggressively hone in on a few targets with the intention of getting a deal done.

If we did whiff on these guys, I think you move into the mindset of finding the next big thing before they burst onto the scene. As Franchise said, we're looking at fired losers, retreads, has-beens, and washed up nobodies. If we pull off what I consider to be the impossible by posting a goose egg on the first list, I'd hope they'd move on to a guy like Tom Herman. Herman is a young coach who's an expert on one side of the football. He has an attitude that would be a cultural fit for Miami. He's got a great pedigree and he's the type of rising star I'd want to hitch our wagon to.

I agree with you. I'm all about aiming high. I thought Butch was attractive because at least you know what he brings and I had no faith in this admins ability to hire a decent coach. If UM truly is serious then these are the names I would swing for.......

1) Chip Kelly (This assumes he leaves the NFL at the end of the season)
2) Gary Patterson (great coach who does more with less and is maxed out at TCU)
3) Mark Dantonio
4) Mike Gundy
5) Tom Herman(Rising star imo)

I'm up for that.

With some of the Cristobal insanity I keep hearing, I think you may be deeply disappointed.

Not only is Gundy beefin' with T Boone, he's seriously considered the Tennessee job and was dying for an offer from UF. He's the type of dude that's been locked in that town forever and has hit the ceiling.

That's a hungry, ornery, sumbltch of a coach this program needs to be fvckin with.
