#WelcometotheU Nigel Bethel

Bethel isn't elite but one thing he can do as well top 20 corners in the nation is stay to the WRs hip. Pesky CB. If the kid has long arms his height isn't that important for his position. He needs to bulk up tho which will come with time. 40 times are the most overrated attribute for a corner. Hip mobility and quickness (shuttle time) are way superior to when evaluating a CB. He has average-above average ball skills. (7.5) Bethel had 4 interceptions and multiple deflections. Good, not great pickup. You can't get 25 Joseph yearby, Kc McDermott, Brad Kaaya type players. Kid will contribute at Miami IMO. Defintiely a BCS player.

/ for those knocking his speed, he has been LAZER timed at 4.49 & 4.61. He's a high 4.4 guy to low 4.6 guy.

Film dont lie..with this kid.

In the tape hes up against mostly div 1 caliber athletes.(Artie Burns, Jo Jo Robinson, Devante Peete, Davante Phillips) just off head i saw him matched with on tape.
In the state game he was EVERYWHERE , against Jax Bolles one of fla best programs.

Like i said he reminds me of Terrell Buckley, and thats a good thing...As a nickel back dude will be a BEAST.
Mayes will be the big cb i guess of the class...would love to snatch Lammons or the kid out of Armwood as the next cbs.

We NEED some safeties. We will only have 3 scholarship safeties next year. We have no idea about Gray's grades & he has never played safety before.

Below average speed? We're talking about a kid who ran down Artie Burns...

The same Artie Burns who would've taken 4th place in the 2012 London Olympics with his time of 13.35 in the 100H

Come on, man!

If you really think Artie would've taken 4th at the Olympics with his time, then you are incredibly stupid. That is all.

I read that he has the fastest 100m hurdle speed in america

Look, Artie is fast, but he's not the fastest high school hurdler in the nation and you certainly can't compare his times to Olympians because there's a freaking height change.

With that said, congrats to Bethel.

Actually Artie Burns IS the fastest high school hurdler in the nation. Not only did he clock the fastest time in the nation for high schoolers, his time was comparable to the top 7 times at the London olympics. Oh and yea, he also did this as a senior in high school.

Artie has olympic speed and you should do your research before calling everyone stupid all the time.

Wingspan is more important for CB.. Like Lammons he's 5'9.5 but he has long arms similar to Janoris Jenkins... Bethel might be 5'8 but if he has long arms and good hips his height won't matter as much. Plus he's probably a nickel guy here anyways he will be covering the smaller slot guys most of the time..

Wait a minute..Some of the best DBs in FSU history were 5'10 or shorter. (Obviously besides Deion) Clifton Abraham use to give Lamar Thomas and Horace Copeland FITS. Corey Sawyer too. Terrell Buckley. Tony Carter. Greg Reid. **** Lamarcus Joyner is 5'8 on his best day and he plays safety. Im not buying this whole they didnt want Nigel Bethel ESPECIALLY if they thought it would lock up Chad Thomas. (We know how much they love package deals)

Doubt me all you want to but Pruitt is very particular about that. Right now he has a good shot at getting what he wants.

Adoree is 5'10

cut the bull

While I welcome this young man to The U, I feel the need to state that I see him as a bit of a head-scratcher. I personally do not see this kid as a BCS caliber player. Subpar height, below average speed for his position, average ball skills. I have to wonder if this was a political play on behalf of our staff. I would not be surprised if this kid doesnt end up at UM.

One man's opinion.

Welcome to the U, young Mister Bethel.

First sprinter in Miami history who is called slow

Seth Joiner had the top time in the 110 hurdles last year (13.29), and Burns isn't even in the top 10 this year due to injury.

Does he have the potential to make the Olympics? Absolutely. However you cannot compare his current times to the times of Olympians because the hurdles in the Olympics are higher than what a high schooler's hurdles would be. In an event like hurdles where technique is everything, that makes a huge difference.

Edit: after researching Joiner further, it looks like his time was either a typo or an error by the machine because nothing else he has done has come close to that time. So Artie is the fastest hurdler in the nation, still can't compare his times to Olympians though.

One of the reasons FSU almost always lost to THE U back in the day was our bigger WRs like Playmaker beating the crap out of their shorter cbs. They paid dearly for their love affair with smaller cbs. They can cover great but you need someone in the secondary that can dish out pain to WRs. Remember we could not stop Larry Fitzgerald until Shawn Taylor, God rest his soul, took over covering him and busted him in the face. A little blood dulled his effort. Even Deon could not take the beatings Irving use to put on him. Nigel is a get ge and will do great, but you have to have some dbs carrying bigger lumber when needed. Still glad to have him because we seem to lack cover skills.

Thought this thread was about Nigel. Well, lets agree that Artie is really fast and tape shows Nigel running him down. Great news, they will both be in our secondary and maybe between them, nobody will to raking up huge yards after catch numbers anymore. Speed kills; speed that can catch speed kills twice.
