Welcome Home

From the Herald,

"According to UM here is what Harris can't do: He can't coach. He can't recruit. And he can't make phone calls to recruits.

What can he do? He can reach recruits through social media beginning Sept. 1 of their junior year and he can be involved in official on campus visits and eat meals during off campus official vists."

Also according to the Herald,

"Harris also wants to finish college and get his degree at UM. Part of the reason he left Booker T. was to take advantage of this situation and finish school once and for all. He cannot become an assistant coach until he gets his degree."

Kept him away from $EC schools also...big win for Miami.

He will recruit.

Even though, since he is not a coach, he's not allowed too?

Wishing it so, doesn't make it so.

I'm thinking if he actively recruits for us, that would be an NCAA violation, and since we are on probation, the less violations the better.

It says he can use social media though right?

No one talks to each other in person anymore anyway

When it says he's not allowed to recruit, I don't think he'll be allowed to visit recruits and their schools, games or practices, but I think he'll be allowed to communicate via Twitter and Facebook.

How did Hurley get Elder and Griffin (lolz) to commit even though he was in the same role?

Exactly, as fans we technically "recruit" so Ice Harris on social media saying anything helps recruiting

bada bing bada boom...

like i said bama and the rest of the sec is loaded with these type of guys.....

ice is even better for this spot as he knows the kid at an even younger age....and has basically coached with every coach in the inner city of miami...literally.

And please stop witht his talk of ice for defense etc...He coaches OFFENSE..........never been on the d side...and all of his sons have played QB for him...

Rudebuddha makes a valid point though about perhaps walking a fine line.

I'm not worried though. Its one area where Golden seems to have a grasp on things.

It really isnt if he is posting about coming to an event or something like that. nobody knows though technically so lets not speculate how he will but it wont be an issue for us

Probably couldnt of had ice on staff under the cloud of the ncaa with them gone its business as usual

Freeeee at last!!

Good to see he is going to work toward his degree as well. Nice statement and allows him to possibly be a coach down the line.

This is a great move by both parties.

Not me saying this, it's the Herald who is saying "according to UM....,"

When UM says he can't recruit, there's not really a fine line there. You are either recruiting a kid or you are not.
I'm pretty sure he can't even have the title "coach" on a business card, or introduce himself as "Coach Harris."
That would be a misrepresentation.
From the Herald article his role seems like it's going to be community outreach, but when it comes to prospects he can only be a scheduler or a notifier, dealing only with parents and high school coaches. If he sees a recruit or accidently talks to one it's supposed to be, "hi and bye."

This looks to be a chess move for 2-3 years down the road. Makes the rest of South Florida's coaches happy to see one of their own get a huge bump from the hometown university. Gives us another inroad into a fertile talent pool, even if, for 2-3 years, Harris has nothing to do with talent acquisition. Lastly, it allows Miami to help out a highly respected local high school coach whose vertical prospects in the coaching profession are extremely limited due to his educational deficiencies.

I wish him good fortune in his new position.

how many credits does he need? hopefully not many.

Generally speaking, when you transfer to a university to complete your Bachelor's Degree you can only transfer 60 credits.
Most schools require you to complete 60 semester hours and all requirements from the prospective college to graduate.

If not, people would transfer to Harvard all the time needing only a volleyball class to complete and get that Harvard B.A.

I agree about not speculating

Ice didn't help us very much in recruiting before, what makes you think he will help much now?

He had nothing to do with the 2008 class that was full of busts by the way (I don't believe he was hired till right before NSD or something)

Everyone in here blowing this way outta proportion, this hire won't do ****, and to be honest after the bull **** he pulled last year I'm kinda ****ed we rewarded this F@#K with a job.

Go ahead and start bashing me...

telly? why? no. not the same at all.

because Telly has more connects to the NW Miami Dade area (as in the Miami Gardens area which is flooded with kids Miami has wanted and will continue to want in the future). Like I said it's whatever, I have no problem with Ice getting it now.

ice has he inner city=-Miami,Liberty City,Overtown,Allapatah area lock down....

i think were cool in the north side though.....lot of um friendly coaches around...(Luke,Hill)

we have Barrow and Solly down south....

do people not know who the **** Telly Lockette is/was? There is 1 reason why Central became the big dogs and it starts and ends with Telly. Unlike Ice who would get a majority of his kids sent to him from Crummie, Telly was plucking top kids from parks all over the county (LBC, GCB, SLV, NDB, BPC, etc) in order to create that beast. He has all those same ***ing connects save for Overtown and that's where Telly brings better connects in the Miami Gardens area. Sorry but MG has more talent than OT right now, heck some of the kids at BTW are from the MG's area. Like I said it's whatever and I'm done talking about it but finding someway to get Telly on staff last year would have been a bigger coup imho.

Btw *** thinking Hill will have more loyalty to UM over UF when it comes to a kid from CC.
