Welcome Home

This may be the biggest hiring that Golden has had during his tenure. If you add T-Rob (wishful thinking) in the near future then we have top 2 classes literally every year from now on. This **** is huge in so many ways

T-rob??? Yea way wishful thinking

Way wishful thinking? Guys from Miami and can own it at an even higher level then Coley IF offered a d coordinator position. Like I said though that would be hopeful in the future this **** is now!

TRob is my dream D-Coordinator here.

Seriously dude if you don't understand how this helps us you have no idea how recruiting works.

Al was heading this yankee white dude staff who came in talking all kinds of chit and in the end the local coaches got tired of the BS. Whether wrong or not that was what was happening.

Al needed to make a move like this to get back on track with the local high school coaches.

Cane football will never be significant if it cant get what it wants from SFL. You cant get what you want when the local high school coaches are talking behind your back causing mistrust by the community.

SFL is the hardest place to recruit in the country because every kid is recruited by every school in the country and they all think they are the chit and high school coaches serve as their mentors and can easily plant any seed they want to make the kid be suspect of the U and this white dude.

Ice didn't help us very much in recruiting before, what makes you think he will help much now?

He had nothing to do with the 2008 class that was full of busts by the way (I don't believe he was hired till right before NSD or something)

Everyone in here blowing this way outta proportion, this hire won't do ****, and to be honest after the bull **** he pulled last year I'm kinda ****ed we rewarded this F@#K with a job.

Go ahead and start bashing me...

Harris will be the main liaison between HS coaches in this role. He didn't do that before.

I know how recruiting works down here, been following it for a little over 15 years, just why hire somebody who pulled the type of **** he did AGAINST OUR PROGRAM?

I'm sure there might be another south FL coach who has plenty of pull and respect down here that hasn't bad mouthed us on the **** radio, who actually deserves the job.

I don't know if you remember the 2009 and 2010 class that ICE was on staff for.

What did he do to stop all the south FL ballers from leaving then? Not a **** thing.

I just really think some of you south FL homers are making way too big a deal out of this.

Keep bashing...

What this really does is help with events that UM will do in the summer because Ice will have some events that will get more big prospects to come with his respect that he garners and meaning more recruiting chances and also Ice brings an even bigger family vibe that Dade recruits will feel. Seriously its endless how much this helps and only the dumbasses cant see how this helps.............. no offense

Great move... next is offering the leaders of the class that will speak and help bring the top recruits this year. I love this move. Interesting for an Ice Harris perspective now that his son will be playing for UF. I wonder what if anything this played in Harris mind as he was making a final choice of colleges.

Tbh I think it was a football choice with Treon and Ice is a part of the staff but not the everyday on the field staff so I dont think it was a factor even if he did decide he would do this back then which tbh I dont think Ice decided back then to join UM

Power Move, a combination of James Coley and Ice Harris is big

and Hurlie

I am trying really hard to NOT be that guy, but how Golden can be so proactive in some areas, and so god**** blind in others is whats most frustrating. He realizes the help he needs in recruiting and has crushed that part of it IMO.

I won't finish my thought, but you get what I am getting at.

TH made the right choice, how bad would this look if we got him n his son? better chance at uf, we have 2 high rated qbs n over there he has 1........... n if he converts to d its a better option at uf.

I wouldn't say crushed it, and I think this specific move can be construed as reactive more than proactive, but generally speaking, I do think he's done many things properly, so I keep telling myself he's got to be able to figure out the D....right?

Think about this, recruits/HS coaches watch this years defense and they're ****ed off. Do you think Ice wont have a voice in saying get a new face here or we fall apart? He's the voice/ears of the local scene for UM now so he'll make it clear that it cant go on any longer and Golden isn't dumb he knows he cant risk it all especially with a local Dade legend on staff

Hmm, I would say collectively Coley/Hurlie/Scott/Kehoe/Ice is a slam dunk job as far as strictly recruiting goes. Kehoe seems to be thriving in the role since his return.

But yeah, that other part....

T-Rob is a good recruiter and good position coach...that does not mean he can run a Defense....he has no experience doin it...Cause I guarantee if he came and was horrible as a D-Coordinator, he would get Roasted...Just having him on staff would be a Plus...IMO

One reason why I really like this move is that I think Ice knows about more undiscovered talent early before it blows up like with D. Jackson. So we can now have the advantage of getting on them early.

Also, I hate to reference Canesport but Ferman has no credibility to me, but there is an article with the feedback on local coaches already and I trust the quotes. Especially when Sedrick Irvin is saying he now wants Tim Irvin to go to Miami bc Ice is there.

Big power move Golden! I like it a lot

Again, AL does seem to get it.

One thing for sure, if/when he leaves it will not be for lack of doing everything he can to win. I am interested to see this pan out in the recruiting circle.... At some point all of these recruiters on staff will pay off. I can now say this next class truly has a chance to be special. There is a ton of talent in the area, there is no shortage of recruiters on staff, we have been in contact with all the local studs, we have offered them, now its time to see if we can reel in one of those truly EILTE classes that turns the program into an elite on for years and would hopefully keep Al around for a while.

As I've said on this board many times, elite classes do not necessarily translate into elite college performance. Our history, especially under Jimmy Johnson, has shown that. People here are so obsessed with with recruiting the marquee players. As Jimmy said, he'd rather have an unsung recruit who gets better and better every time he steps on the practice field rather than an elite recruit who never gets any better in college. Sometimes, the elite recruiting status of a young man correlates with elite performance in college, but often enough it does not.

I'm so sick of seeing this obsession with the marquee players. That's not to say I would not have wanted a Dalvin Cook, because I think his kind of talent in exploding the big one will project to something special in college, but putting Ice back on staff is not going to transform a marginal recuit academically like Valentine.

If we had Ice on staff for this last recruiting cycle, how many kids would we have gotten that we did not? I suspect we would have lost Cook, Rudolph, Lane, Valentine, etc., anyway. I'm glad he's back, but there are some things he might be unable to change.

Last time we had him we had some great recruiting classes if I recall properly.

Actually, the one good class Randy had was the year Ice join the staff, I think. I believe he joined after the class was in the book. I think this is good news but not sure it locks up a top class. One would think Randy could have gotten EVERY kid down here and that didn't happen. Recruiting is complicated and unsavory.
