Week 12 Rooting Guide — Path to CFP

Simplified:

Miami wins out.

Next week:
--AL to beat OK
--GA to beat TX
--Pitt to beat ND

Following week:
--Pitt to beat GT
--Cincy to beat BYU

Final week:
--TN to beat Vandy

Miami will be ranked #9 at that point, because beating a ranked Pitt should vault Miami over Utah and its **** schedule.

Simplifying things??

Wow!!!

What alien took over your body? Lol

I don’t think Pitt will beat ND. So what’s that do to the math?
The dreaded eye test. If ND squeaks by Pitt we need to smoke em. If ND blows em out we toast. This will be the most Miami of Miami fumbles. We will either be in position to make it on the final day and blow the game maybe in epic Mario gameday bungle fashion or we win out and get cornholed by the committee who puts ND ahead of us because they can reminiscent of 2000 except we arent really National title favorites.

In my opinion…

1) gets ND out of our way. But they would still remain ranked.

2). Skyrockets Pitt up the rankings, which gives us one final opportunity to have an impressive win to end the season. That could matter big time if it’s us vs. another 2-loss team from a power conference.

We would have 3 wins against teams ending the season ranked. That’s an awesome resume.
I agree it helps but to be honest i wouldn't categorize it has a must win for Pitt because the alternative doesn't ruin our chances. It arguably enhances our chances in another way.

Not a backbreaker for sure, but would help us a lot. Honestly, Oklahoma and Texas losing this week are probably just as important.

I know we think committee is retarded but there is a ZERO% chance ND gets ahead of us if we're both 10-2. We have more ranked wins and the head to head. We'll both probably make it and the committee would have to concede and leave out an SEC team

JUST WIN FOR THE LOVE OF GOD

We would need Pitt to beat GT the following week to stay relevant in the top 25. It then comes down to other teams losing so that ND and us aren’t separated by much. Forces the committee to either value head-to-head or look like giant hypocrites.

Yeah they don’t care about being hypocrites. Will say the TAMU and Miami losses were quality losses and early in the season. Miami lost late to an above average UL and below average SMU. Despite the people who say being in the ACC means you can only take one loss, I think we could have made it to playoffs to with two losses in a lot of scenarios - especially if we had one reg season loss and a loss in the ACC championship. No doubt in my mind the ACC lets UM in if we lost a close game to GT in the ACC championship. Unfortunately we had two easy bites at the apple- got Louisville at home after a buy week and got schooled by Brohm, then laid an egg against a very beatable SMU. I hate the ACC but I can’t blame them for this one. Schedule laid itself out perfectly for no more than 1 loss in reg season. Toughest game in ACC play was Louisville at home, then got a breather against Stanford, easy road game against SMU, then the finishing kick for all the marbles where team should be ultra motivated to win out and play in the ACC championship.

No one but Miami to blame for the current situation. Still hoping for the impossible though and Miami to sneak into the playoffs. Like I said yesterday, we make the playoffs and get a top 7 class, I will 100% agree Mario has more than earned his pay even if we don’t win ACC and get bounced in the first round.

I wouldn’t be so sure. I just saw an AP voter that said he has Miami ahead of Notre Dame now, but that could change if ND beats Pitt and the Miami/ND result is “further in the rear view mirror.”

But if ND beats Pitt and we beat Pitt....

@Genghis Cane does this change which teams we should be wanting to to win and lose next weekend?
Not really — just gives us more cushion if certain results we need don’t materialize.

We’re not going to get every loss that we root for. I knew that when I typed this up. But there are three weeks left. If you get a little help each week, it goes a long way.

One week at a time. For now, just beat NC State. And look good doing it.

That's a significant bump for beating a ****** syracuse team. Win and get in 100%

Kinda hoping espn is low key telling the playoff committee “we have deals with the sec and acc. Miami gets eyeballs. Name carries weight. No one is tuning in for Duke vs GT in the ACC championship. It actually makes them look like a clown conference for putting a 4 loss Duke in over 2 loss Miami. We’re moving up Miami in the FPI for beating a bad Cuse team because they need to be in the playoffs. Understand what we’re saying?”

Cannot upvote this enough.

All of our "quality games" were early.

It would be AMAZING to beat a Top 15 team on the final weekend, which Pitt would be if they beat ND and GaTech.
