"Cornerbacks coach Mike Rumph said Byrd “felt the vibe better at Tennessee. He liked the atmosphere at the school. He made the decision like a man. He talked to me and told me how he felt. You can’t look down on that. You’ve got to let a kid be a person he wants to be. I can’t be upset with that. He’s going to have a bright future at Tennessee. He’s one of the first kids I recruited. I just wish him the best.”

Off two terrific games, Whiteside has more to prove to Heat; Dolphins, Canes, Marlins chatter | Sports Buzz

I couldn't care less about discussing Byrd for one second longer but am concerned that Rumph would speak publicly and so weakly about a situation like this. He needs to take off his high school coach hat where wishing kids well wherever they go is cool and put on the hat where he never speaks about a kid again that d!cked him and his current employer over the night before NSD. Tighten it up, Rumph. This isn't the Penn State game that you blew.

So he's supposed to drag the kid under the bus? Probably wouldn't leave a good impression with future recruits.

Nope. But he doesn't have to say anything positive about the kid let alone the situation and the way it was handled. Are you cool with a coach being this cool with being flipped on the night before NSD?

It was disappointing the way it was handled but still a good PR move by Rumph. Cager and Hartley had their tweets about it. Time to move on. We as fans can dog pile on the kid but coaches have to watch what they are saying. No need to give other schools more ammo to negatively recruit against Miami.

"I don't want to discuss anyone other than OUR players. If they aren't one, no comment."

Quit making sense and like I said at the time, I believe what Geo said he heard, but that doesn't make what he said accurate.

so Rumph went from "I won't take no for an answer." to "I won't take no for an answer...Unless you tell me no, then it's ok."

Yall read too much into interviews

this. people dont get that no one is telling the truth during interviews. theyre just giving the positive statement to the media and wont really say anything negative during interviews. blake supported golden until he had the clearance to fire the dude and that was that.

I'm sorry, I think Rumph played it right. If it doesn't work out for Byrd at Tenn, don't think for a minute he won't reach out to Miami if he decides to transfer. Rump is no dummy. Remain diplomatic just in case it doesn't work out for the kid. Happens more than you guys think.

Could you imagine if NYC was a hotbed for recruiting? Get a couple guys named Sergei from Brighton beach on the payroll...take no for answer?
