Last night was not the first game this season that we kept running in to a wall.
The poney package with a RB being a lead blocker for other back worked well against UF and ND. Didn’t see it vs fsu or LouisvillePeople forget against UF we ran off tackle quite a bit which opened up the inside. We ran off tackle 2x last night. One time for 6 and then Toney for 12. To make matters worse we kept trying the bubble screen even though they had numbers against it.
I'm not sure what you have watched all year, but we have been abysmal in the run game. Prior to the FSU and VILLE game we were averaging 4.1 YPC, which was good for 71st in the country. We are now averaging 3.8 YPC, which is good for 91st in the country. And we have only faced one rush D in the top 25, which is FSU at 20.I apologize. The board is insufferable after a lose..
Our run scheme and our run game are two separate things.
Our scheme is meant for BALL CONTROL. Mario wants to 'pound the rock' and wear down a defense. We see this when we are 'pushing the pile'. Im not saying I agree. Im just stating a fact
Our run game is the actual production. And, while we aren't averaging 9 ypc, I do think we've had some production. But, eventually, teams will adjust and bring a safety down for run support. We saw FSU do this with Little (#0). This is why the flea flicker was a perfect call
I dont expect us to have explosiveness gashes like we saw Issac Brown do to us also night. Maybe, that's why I don't see our run game as being disappointing all season. I expect us the get 4-7 a carry and work our way downfield. And, I only expect this from watching previous games and trying to understand our gameplan.
We ran the ball 18 times with our backs and threw 35 times. That’s not our game and it hasn’t been how we won games. And how would that look? Run up the middle 3 straight times instead of two????
The RUN GAME STINKS. IT NEEDS TO CHANGE.
