We should hire a spread coach

You need to run the ball to win and I want to run the ball. But when 9 guys are in the box and you don't have Bama's OL it's hard to win.

Why wouldn't you want to spread 3 or 4 WR, flex a TE out and run down hill with Duke and Yearby Out of the shotgun.

If we did that the other night do you think we see a 9 man box ?

**** some of dukes best runs as a Cane were on counter plays out of the shotgun with feliciano and Walford pulling

auburn was a spread team but all of their offensive concepts were I formation

Spread the defense out with Miami speed at WR and run it down their face with explosive backs

The old coots calling spread offenses a gimmick were probably booing the Wright brothers and calling their "bird contraption" nothing but "a fad."

There is absolutely no need to hire a "Spread" coach. We already have one. Golden bends over and spreads his a$$ cheeks for every marginal coach he faces.

* Had to do it guys. This thread was in dire need of some levity.

Give me the Oneback offense. I got the Erickson playbook from 89 and 91. Personally the concepts are GOLDEN.
I would just modify them from the pistol and the gun.

Each play/concept could have at least 3 looks, before motion/shifts. (UC, Gun, Pistol)

We DO NOT have a true fullback. Tucker has to be better than gus. This actually plays to our strength personnel wise. 31, and 40 personnel. I would even flex out Walford in the slot and have DoB in line, as another look...

Keep the box light for Duke, Yearby, Choc

I'm under the assumption that when people refer to the spread it generally means either the read option spread or the air raid spread. Having 3,4, and 5 wide packages does not mean it's a spread offense. The OP I think is referring to having a Leach or Oregon/Urban Meyer/Rich Rod system which is what I'm arguing against. I have no issue with hiring a modern WCO based coach. I'm not suggesting we need to be three yards and a cloud of dust here. Sorry if I was not clear.

I want the Oregon spread. I don't see the problem with that. Last year they were 3rd in total offense, 11th in rushing offense, 21st in passing offense, and 3rd in scoring offense.

That's a balanced, potent attack that fits our talent base like a glove. It's not a gimmick. There's nothing gimmicky about ramming the ball down the opponent's throat.

They were also operating with a 70% Mariota down the stretch.

Interested in what Frost does this year.

Call me when Oregon wins any game of note, or when the air raid spread does as well.

At the U of Miami, you cannot hire college coordinators and expect success. It has never worked. Young, green coaches, no matter how flashy they appear, are a consistent disaster for us. Learn from the past just a little bit.

Rose Bowls aren't games of note? Playing in the national championship game isn't an accomplishment?

When has Miami hired a "sure thing"? Who fits that bill right now?

Who do you suggest?

Lulz at Oregons offense being a gimmick. I'll take that gimmick any day of the week if it means us being ranked top 10 when the season starts over the last few years

There should be a compromise between the spread and pro set, but we're too set in our ways or rather our coaches are.

Oregon has won a Rose bowl in the last 5 years. Texas A&M and Auburn's spread both have given Nick Saban and Alabama fits.

Texas A&M just put up 700 yards vs USCe on the road.

Boy, that gimmick sure doesn't yield results.

Oregon hasn't won ****. When they win a ring with that gimmick, let me know. I want a ring, not some flashy offense that can't win the big one.

Imagine the Oregon spread with South Florida talent.

Absurd.

It's a logical fit. There would be an abundance of RBs and WRs to send at the opposition in waves, and we could actually kick the tires on the local dual-threat QBs we always ignore. With a spread coach, we could maintain continuity on the offensive side of the ball. Playing at a break-neck pace in South Florida heat/humidity could also give us some semblance of home-field advantage.

Defensively, we don't need a mastermind, just an experienced guy who will have us playing fast and confidently. ****, a middle-of-the-road guy like John Lovett produced a top 25 defense here.

Any competent coach will do, but if I had my choice between a CEO coach, a defensive coach, and an offensive coach, I'd go with the offensive coach.

Give me a spread attack. Give me any offensive system that has a guru like Nick Saban pulling his hair out. It's a logical fit with our talent base.

I am ready for this. I have always been a big proponent of the pro-style offense in the past but we have to start taking advantage of the talent that we have in our backyard. At the very least I would like to see a more up-tempo style of offense with a single back and three or four receiver sets. Something has to change...

Auburn just put up 450 yards and 31 points in the national championship running the spread, but it's a gimmick. 217 passing and 230 rushing. But that offense can't work in your opinion? FSU had a top 5 defense last year and look what they did to them.

Auburn put up 400 yards against Bama last season. 300 of those were rushing! But you don't want that gimmick offense?

Auburn put up 430 yards versus LSU last season. But that offense just can't work.

You're as stubborn and stupid as Golden.

This is 2014. Spread offenses are given defenses fits. Adapt or ******* kill yourself.

Neal Brown...

Scott Frost...

Kingsbury...

who is the coach at North Dakota St?

Mark Stoops and Narduzzi would be amazing also....

No way GoldenShowers is being serious. No way.

A person THAT dumb would literally be wearing a hat with a propeller on top and chewing on his Crayola's right now.
