We better have a Top 10 defensive backfield this year

Who said anything about UGA, Bama, or FLA? I don't remember anyone mentioning them...But since you asked junior, let's take GA for example

Baylor, Florida (passing game better with Trask better than Franklin), Notre Dame, LSU, Tamu (and no I'm not saying any outside of LSU they are elite)... are all as good or better than UNC and possibly VA who are the only 2 in this conversation. The QB slate as a whole are night day...Look at our division man. Pitt decent QB/no weapons...GT full retardo at QB/No weapons...VA ok QB/decent WR...VT mediocre at best, had a nice WR, Duke could barely throw a forward pass with that QB this year/played em in a rain storm, they still made a big play downfield in 2h against us, and UNC was a pretty good passing game I'll give you that.

Don't go any further in this arguement, you are embarrassing yourself even bringing it up, especially when I didn't compare to those teams to begin with.
Hold on you mean Baylor who was on it's third string QB and the starter who was beat to ish in the game? You mean FL with a kid starting his third game since his time on the JV team? No thier QB slate wasn't night and day better. They faced Burrow and Kellan Mond. Go look it up UGA got to face just about everyones backup or true freshman in the majority of their games. ESPN even did a stat on how fortunate UGA was when they played team cause just about all of them were on their back up or had a starter hurt.

Should i sit down now? Are you going to educate some more? Please do

Would say Miami faced some good talent last season tbqh at receiver .

tamorrion terry (one of thebetter receivers in the country)

van Jefferson

Trevon grimes

hasise Dubois and reed from uva

unc receiver duo (both had over 1000 yards)

va tech’s Damon hazelton
To name a few

Pretty average top to bottom...Everyone in power 5 faces "good receivers" throughout the season...I'm talking about passing games, QBs, teams with multiple threats.

UF was the most dangerous then UNC...Those two are good passing games, although I like Trask better than Franks. We'll call it even though bc Franks adds a more dangerous keeper element.

And the other part of the difference is we face a few completely clueless, threatlass passing teams.

Baylor starter played all the way til mid 4th... You don't mention Book and Notre Dame huh? How convenient...Not to mention you laid parameters where I wasn't allowed to count the passing team in the country. We just take them outta the arguement? "OK take out LSU"...lol WHY? Their stats in there and it may have been the best CFB passing offense of all time? If you take out LSU, I get to take out GT and Pitt in weather ok?

And again who mentioned Georgia? I said Miami faced a weak slate of passing offenses...You came in hollering about Georgia like a complete idiot.

UF Trask = No drop off from Franks...And is more accurate, his numbers were .7 yppass better than and the completion percentages weren't even close. Franks had nice stats this year...But about 35% of his total time on the field was against UT Martin where he went 25-27 for 270.

I'm just telling you how it is...Weak, weak slate of overall offenses and especially passing games. You're getting knocked around here and i'm not going to respond to an your ridiculous arguement anymore, especially when you are making a comparison that has nothing to do with me to begin with.

We have to hope Couch or Williams step up & take Ivey's spot, he's the weakest link in the Secondary.

I think with Hall, Bolden (when healthy), Keontra Smith, Jalen Harrell & Tae Williams we could have a very good Safety group.

Don't give AF what anybody says, but I still think we should go get Meiko Dotson.
Idk why there isnt more smoke. I havent heard of any possible suiters either.

A couple people I’ve talked to on the inside think that Ivey has the highest upside and will ultimately be the best CB.

Obviously, it’s just their opinion, and they realize that Ivey had a very rough start. But I thought it was interesting.

It makes me question the evaluations inside the building then. In the games i've seen, he's had mental lapses, technique lapses and lacks the speed to stay with receivers once he makes those mistakes. He made a few INTs but in terms of upside i see others on the roster with a higher physical ceiling.

I just hope Ivey keeps his head on straight, learns from last year, works hard and becomes a solid, consistent contributor.

I felt Blades was the best cover guy last year, even though his tackling was well below average at times. He was consistently in the hip pocket of WRs.

Dotson goes to GT for a year, decides to come back closer to home in FAU (he's from Daytona). Miami makes almost too much sense here.

Starting safeties looking good IMHO. Losing Bandy was a lose/lose, we could have used him and he needed to prove himself after a "meh" 2019 season. I think Blades has the athleticism and work ethic to take that next step. And I expect Couch will secure the other spot after a year of S&C. I just don't see it with Ivey. Hope I'm wrong.

But to Skeeter's point, none of these guys are #1 CBs. Bolden and Hall are going to have to organize the secondary and provide Redwine/Johnson-level coverage to hide the weaknesses.

You will be disappointed, I'm afraid. I was a bit underwhelmed at Williams' speed/lateral quickness while he was taking on the gunner on STs last year. Let's hope he takes a big step this spring.

I think safety was the weak spot last year but we should be good/very good at the position this year with more experience and a healthy Bolden. Corner is a concern. I thought Blades was the most consistent corner even though they continued to start Ivey who looked lost occasionally and had too many WTF??? moments. I'm hoping Williams and Couch can contribute heavily.

Overblown concern, Williams showed a lot of speed on the play on that kick of return vs uva where he chased him down because if he hadn’t that’s a special Teams touchdown but due to William’s speed he stopped them in the 4th quarter I think After a big return that could have been worse

Or the high-profile recruiting losses will really hurt.

247Sports recently released projected depth charts for Alabama, Florida and Georgia. All four of Bama’s projected starting DBs (Surtain, Jobe, Battle and Wright) were from South Florida. Three of Florida’s starters (Wilson, Elam and Davis) were from South Florida. Finally, two of Georgia’s starters (Tyrique and Campbell) were from South Florida, along with their top backup (Wilson).

There is plenty of talent in Miami’s defensive backfield. Eleven total four stars. But given what has left the region, we need Rumph and Banda to coach our guys to an elite level. 37th in yards per pass attempt is not good enough, especially considering our pass rush. Anything less than a Top 10 finish is a failure.
the secondary will improve next year..ppl forget we broke in 4 different starters back there last season in ivey, blades, hall, knowles/carter/bubba..

imo Hall and Ivey are closer to liabilities than elite players. I hope they both figure something out because right now I'm hoping neither is in the two deep. Please oh please somebody else step up and take those positions. The recruiting misses, be it bags or whatever, just might pop up in a big way this year.

They were saying that before he let a dude walk by him for a TD. It's not like he was a true freshman.

We will see. He has a great chance to be 2nd team along with Couch.

Miami’s secondary before the 2019 season was #1 in the country in pass defense in 2018, we just lost 3 nfl draft picks the year before and replaced them with green guys in terms of experience everywhere outside of Trajan bandy. That was an expected drop off and they still finished with i believe the 18th rated pass defense in the country. They didn’t do that bad in largely their first year playing. They were better in pass defense than the 2017 group was when most of those guys first got their extended play time too for the most part. Yet that group improved significantly the year after. Personally I think They should improve quite a bit but we will see.

in regards to the list you named, none of those guys have been proven to be impact players like that and have been fairly average since being in college tbh despite their rankings as most have underwhelmed. out of all those names Elam might have been the best honestly and in limited time stevenson looked good . None are where Cj henderson was entering his junior season in terms of impact. He was a true miss, jury still out on the rest as they haven’t been necessarily standout guys like that tbh or shown to be true difference makers so far. Most including the highly ranked ones are teetering towards the overhyped category imo.
Can you post the other coastal teams pass defense for comparison.

We have issues at CB. Main targets have been missed year after year. When this manure happens this is what you get. Al Blades being your top corner. He’s really a number 2 at best right now. Ivey wouldn’t see the field If we had hit on one or two of are many misses. Nickle is a joke. Bandy left us in a jam and he wasn’t even a true shut down corner.
