Washington starting LG Nate Kalepo commits to ole miss

What is the difference between that and us risking Mauigoa as a true freshman? And please don’t try to use an argument about lt being more important than rt… What is the difference in us risking Rivers moving to OT where he hadnt played for 3yrs here?

it’s always a risk starting a guy for the first time. It is a fact that we are paying him a lot of money and that he has sky high potential. Given the first part, it doesn’t make sense for him to be receiving that much money to ride the bench 2 years. Now that doesn’t mean he should be given the starting job. But what I am saying is if we don’t land a transfer and Okunlola is the 5th best OL he is 100% starting at LT imo and Ricers sliding in to guard. Secondly us getting a portal lg would indicate Okunlola isn’t ready to start. Now maybe if you can say it is injury related we just say it is what it is… but if not what the **** are we paying him for? It’s a waste of money. Either you pay him less to not play or he leaves. That is what the result of us getting a portal guard is.

IMO we shouldn’t add a portal OL until after spring. Rivers is our starter. Whoever our 5th guy is will dictate which position Rivers plays. If it were a transfer Lg Rivers is playing Lt. if it were Kinsler or McCoy at Lg rivers is playing Lt, if it’s Onkunlola he is playing LT and Rivers is playing LG.
Is it that hard to believe Samson simply isn't ready yet ? And compound that with an injury makes it very plausible for him not to play OT just yet as a starter. As for Rivers, in the past he never showed the brute strength needed to be an interior guy, he's more of a finesse type lineman with solid footwork to play on an island. Can he play guard ? Probably, but he's already proved he can be above average at LT and protecting Cam is priority # 1 this year. We will go as far as Cam can take us and putting in an unproven RS-F would be an unnecessary gamble unless he takes a huge leap between spring-fall.

There is a risk playing Kinsler or McCoy, because they are unproven, hence why the Washington guy got a look.

Unless one of either Bell or Samson makes such a huge jump that people starting turning their heads, it's Kinsler or McCoy.

But for Bell or Samson to play at a level so high for Mario to make Rivers, a second-team All-ACC OT, to switch positions, seems like a very unrealistic thing.

I can see Okunlola making the jump, but it depends on how much lifting he’s been able to do post injury.

He was making it interesting in practice in mid-October before the injury.

I think he’d have done well here if he had the NIL here. Plus he’s a good coach on the field.

Never disagreed on his coaching. Was a big fan of his dad's when he was with Tampa Bay. Innovative and well-respected.

Always wondered what Lane Train could have become if he got off of social media and stopped smoking/drinking/chasing after teenagers.

Thats the point. If he would have been healthy and we would have seen him against Rutgers for example, I'd have less issue with it.

But for now, its Rivers job to lose and only that.

Just in reference to the bolded.

Last off szn Lane Kiffin got Oklahoma States starting qb to transfer to ole miss and be a back up. lol

We just had half of the board turned into alcoholics and crashed the server when we landed a kid from SUNY Albany b4 we paid Cam Ward the same amoutn of money we send to Ukraine to suit up 1 more szn for us.

Hes not great recruiter but he is "good"....and the he CANT recruit thing is a myth. If he was at UM we would be top 10 in recruiting yearly honestly.
If he's not a good recruiter...... he. must be a pretty good coach then to be winning games.... and building the Ole Miss program....

He absolutely isn't ready. He looked overwhelmed even when he was in last year. The injury didn't help but he still needs a lot of work given he didn't really face a high LOC in HS.

In terms of LT, this is a no brainer, it’s River’s job until someone takes it from him. I love Samson’s potential but he coming off of injury and will need to recover and still make the jump. It’s not about a player pushing Rivers or playing equal to him, they gotta be able to out right out play him. He earned the job last year.

In my opinion you play the best five unit. It was never about Rivers being a good OT or not. Clearly he is. It’s whether the best five are better with Rivers at OT or OG.

Let’s assume the roster doesn’t change. Let’s also assume Center, RG and RT are settled, so only LG and LT are being optimized. You’ve got Rivers at one spot for certain. Your choices at the other spot are either Pancake, McCoy or Knsler. Which combination works best?

The fact is Rivers is the best option right now at both positions. So it’s just a question of which combo is better for him and the team. I honestly don’t care either way. I know he’s NFL bound and he’ll be great.

Kalepo would have made the whole discussion moot which is why I was hoping he would join the team.

More bull**** from a Lane Train fanboy.

"Building the Ole Miss program"? How? With 20 Portal guys EVERY SINGLE YEAR?

We just saw how "13-0" can go to "worst bowl loss ever" as soon as all the Portal guys leave. That's not "building the program".

Once a better school decides to take a gamble on Lane Train, Ole **** will go back to perpetual 7-6 seasons.

And you dopey Lane Train ball-gobblers continue to act as if other Miami fans DO NOT want us to recruit the Portal. But that's not true. Everyone wants Miami to recruit the Portal, but just not as heavily as Colorado and Ole **** and F$U do.

Why is this so complicated for the Mopes and the Lane Train lovers?

Yall gonna be eating Pancakes at every tailgate for the next 2-3 years because of the Honcho and you're crying over Aleppo rn.

Man it is so funny to see people absolutely rattled by anything pro-Lane.

If the bolded occurred…wouldn’t that indicate…the impact he had acquiring elite talent / his coaching abilities?

Obviously he has his own personal issues…banging Co-Eds, party behavior, was never going to be considered for the Alabama job as long as Saban had a say (his daughter might’ve welcomed a reunion though, as well as a booster or two)…

But man, the people that turn purple in the face arguing against his program-building capabilities as an innovative offensive mind is truly a sight to behold.

Lane is loading up in the portal because he has a chance to win something substantial this season, particularly revamping the defensive side of the ball. Can’t blame him with Saban retiring, UGA showing some cracks, Texas and OU coming to town with two very good offenses, UT breaking in a new QB, UF a dumpster fire, A&M rebuilding, LSU losing their star QB, etc. Lot of traditional powerhouses going through some turmoil, and some new faces. We’d be wanting the same thing if teams like Clemson, FSU, NC State, Louisville were all undergoing some change, giving us a chance to strike while the iron is hot.

It’s something that most sensible folks would applaud, not snicker at lol. I for one would rather see him succeed than Bama, UGA, OU, LSU, UF, or any of the other candidates.
