Walton averages 2.75 YPC against teams not named Bethune

Yearby averages nearly 4 YPC MORE than Walton, running behind the exact same line. One guy avergaes 2.7 YPC and the other 6.3.

A 4 YPC difference is HUGE and it tells me Walton's struggles are not primarily the O-line. Its the talent of running back!

Our O-Line is soft. Yearby gets yards because all it takes is for them to get a hat on SOMEBODY and Yearby will make someone miss to spring the run.

Walton is more of a downhill runner in the mold of EJ or Gore (after surgeries) and he needs the line to get some push.

It's the most crushing thing to say...but we are not a physical football team. It's not an unenjoyable experience to play us. There's no concern on the other side of the field. No second thoughts about safety or well being. Good teams inspire that level at least a smidge of worry. "Sheesh, I might could get hit hard or even worse" That ain't there with these boys man.

you know you're right and its primarily because of the finesse style of offense which were running. Lineman are being taught to hold their blocks and pass protect, even during run plays because they are draws you have to sell it as a pass first to hold the Dline. they have no aggression towards running plays, no guards pulling, no traps, takes too long to develop when your running back is 7-10 yards behind the line of scrimmage.

The sport is based on war. Taking terrain that the opposition is actively attempting to keep you from gaining by force.

We are what would amount to a bad chess player in the octagon

at least give the running game a fighting chance, you can still throw out of this formation by audibling if they stack the box. Herndon will be a mismatch for linebackers, get Tucker and Yearby in the game, Stacey and Scott on the wings

They should be using Herdon (H-Back) and Njoku more often in this type of formation. You'll get mis-matches all over the field for both guys.

yes you're correct, there several different ways you can use personnel out of max protect to attack the defense. I would at least keep one running back in to keep the defense honest.

Yearby averaged 2.2 YPC against FSU though.

We've had one poor running performance against a legit defense and now we have scheme problems and a lack of talent at RB. LOL

I think Walton is good. Nobody ran the ball against FSU. Yearby was getting nothing on the ground.

And I hope you guys realize that it will only become harder to run the ball if we line-up in 21 Personnel with TE's and FB's. If you can't run the ball out of the spread, with 5 or 6 defenders in the box, you definitely ain't gonna run the ball from the I-formation with 8 or 9 defenders in the box.

Walton is a good player, but he's not a guy who is going to make something out of nothing. He's more Mike James than he is Willis McGahee.

Throw out what Walton is doing. They don't use him enough for him to establish a rhythm. And the OLine is lousy, so there's that.
