Walk with me

Money, I couldn't disagree more. Teams can't hoard talent like that anymore; that's a luxury of the past. UM's priority isn't where he fits best; it's filling their needs. You're looking at his physical traits; I'm looking at his football traits. There appears to be a disconnect between the two traits.
Use high school recruiting to find the things you can't find in the Portal.

IMO, high school recruiting should be about ceiling. The Portal can set the floor.

Tight end would be fine if he grew into it. We're still talking about running routes and catching passes.
Running routes as a tight end is VERY different from the route tree a wide receiver runs obviously. Is it not? If? Are you assuming he's not gonna gain weight over the course of his time here? & Again IF the hope is we can turn him into a tight end than cut him loose now. Because we don't need to commit nil like this to nothing but a project. You do that with lightly recruited kids you don't have to make this level of commitment towards. If we're concerned about his fit in the system than at this point #1 we need to start questioning our evals at the position or #2 we need to change up the fact either heatherman is in charge of that unit OR support staff more involved in their development. You and I are both aware of the outside factors that have kept the two biggest question marks in that room off the field. But enough is enough. To be running a program at the level we're finally back to, THIS is a position there's ZERO excuse for not having stability out of by now.

And he didn’t do much on either side vs MHS. Interested in Clayton.
I don’t take much from any of these games. Football across NC is way down this year, especially in the triangle and the eastern portion as a whole. He’s done so many things for Garner he hasn’t gotten any better at any one thing. Looks like a kid that doesn’t trust his instincts. If the light comes on, he’ll be a good one.

AJ is going to be a beast at LB

They will find out on green tree, if we were lackin there then I wouldn’t see why not. But we about to be super stacked so idk. Whatever the staff wants I guess.

The one lb prospect who I thought looked to be so incredible was Melendez. Then I liked Wiley but his film wasn’t like Melendez, his frame was better though and measurables. But I coped for EM ngl, the staff hasn’t earned trust with HS linebackers if I had to be 100 real

Yet here we are with an 8th year dude in toure & a 5th yr dude in smith that are identical with their skill sets and a 2nd yr dude in marcellin who's pretty **** similar to them when you look at skill sets etc... At a certain point you realize this isn't because of green tree were here. This is because he's making a choice schematically... If it was about Greentree we'd have 4 different people on the field than we do. Not a complaint any longer. Just an observation.

Because it's irrelevant. I'm trying to find out his best position. We can't just wish for him to fit where we need him most. He may fit there anyway, but it's a different analysis.

If your argument is that we should drop him if he doesn't project cleanly at LB, that's a fair discussion. My view is you take the freak athletes with good character and figure it out later.
You're allowed enough access to practice that you'd know if that wasn't the discussion and it was irrelevant that he would never even get the opportunity nor the reps to go through that level of development. It is what it is and this thread served its purpose. Clicks went up and that's that. It's a filler. Just call it what it is.

You take them.... if they don't have an NIL figure attached to their high ranking at an entirely different position.

You're talking about this as if $ and our Roster construction is irrelevant. As plainly as I can put it if there is any realistic chance this dude is actually a WR, move on. If this dude isn't just going to get fully 100% stuck in at LB or maybe I could see SS or TE.... then move on (and honestly reduce NIL at TE or SS too). Let some other program develop him. He may very well be a good WR/TE/SS/EDGE with time. That's not how we should be spending that money. We will have pretty big portal needs, and NEED hs LBs, DLine, and OT, as well as wanting the money free if Brysen Wright reclassifies.

LOL,**** you're right Marcellin is built and plays like a mini Toure.

****..... It's still a complaint for me, idgaf. I said before this season started I didn't Trust how heatherman was going to decide which LBs play as soon as the very first time it was rumoured Chase Smith might start over summer. Lmao. Yup with Marcelin too... I'm not surprised at all. At this point I'm just moving on to hoping Busch can play next year and we get 2 portal LBs.

We need linebackers at linebacker. Half our problem lately is we take athletes and try and make them LB. It is such an instinctual position, you either have it or you don't.
When you look at struggling teams like FSU, they have plenty of good athletes but not enough good football players. With the way UM is recruiting, we should be able to land 3-4 of the top 50 LBs in the country who are actually productive at the position.

I'll go ahead and ask you then since the obvious doesn't seem to be working. Do YOU(**** Greentree, **** coach opinions, reps any of that) believe no you're and chase smith are the two best options we have at linebacker and the only other one worthy of it is just marcellin? Do you think ALL of these highly rated kids we've recruited previously to play the position we're just missed by the staff and they're not talented enough to play here at all? Again this is a schematic choice that heatherman has made. He's shown that his value at the position is ONLY in run support and he believes our secondary plus nickel is talented enough to do the rest. He's doing this by choice.

I want to see what the current LBs do after this season,I have to think plenty of them are upset with their lack of playing time and will hit the portal.

Money does strange things to people. This time last season I know of seven dudes still on the squad who's of never changed who already informed us of portaling. Guess we'll see

If the kid enjoys contact then linebacker.

If the kid is contact adverse at the college level, then perhaps WR.

Randle to me is a special teamer for a year or two and figure it out type player. That straight-line speed and athleticism would be a true asset on teams, but I think he has to "see" it as a LB'er and that rarely translates to this level. Certainly not quickly.

You can use a guy like this as a red zone asset, a lead-insert blocker, a teams guy.

I'm a dude on the internet who has never met the player, so take anything I say with that lens in mind, but he's an athlete, not a LB right now to my eyes.

I mean there is a ton of interview evidence where he talks about valuing length and athleticism and ability to play in space, so he’s not looking for plodding run stuffers.

Toure and Smith probably just don’t make many mistakes as the other guys and I’m still excited to see Marcelin work back from injury.
