Wacky scenario discussed on NYC Sports Radio today.

At first glance this scenario seems farfetched but, a lot of the talking heads up here (NYC Metro area) think UM is far from a lock getting in even if we win the ACC. The reasons had little to do with merit and more to do with money. The Big Ten is the biggest revenue producer followed closely by the SEC. Likewise they draw tremendous TV ratings. However they do acknowledge it would be a travesty to leave the ACC champ out.....still doesn't mean it can't happen.

Assume the following;

1)Miami wins the ACC but the Committee snubs us and selects Okl, SEC Champ, and both Ohio State and 'Bama. (I don't believe this will happen but enough folks taking about it here that it now concerns me).

2) A 2 loss Ohio State team wins the playoff.......leaving Miami as the only one loss Conference champ, Miami would then fall into #2 when 3 of the 4 playoff teams lose.

The talk up here is that this may cause voters to revolt and refuse to vote for Ohio State and Miami gets the most votes.

I assume that Ohio State would automatically be awarded the championship, but oddly no one could find the answer today and when I go home, tried to google the answer and cant find the NCAA rule or regulation covering this.

So two questions;

1) Anyone know if the CFP winner automatically is declared the champion or do they still need the most votes?

2) Anyone think that voters would actually cast enough protest votes against a 2 loss champion to vote Miami #1 .?

whoever wins the playoff gets the championship, there is no question about that.

unless that is your question? why would they have a 4 team playoff and then vote for the winner after it's already been decided on the field. if you're left out of the 4? sucks to suck. i.e tcu, penn state, and bama this year if wisky wins

New York sports talk radio is THE worst.

Only for college sports......but it is truly bad for college sports though.....I actually tune in online to WQAM In Miami and a JOX in Birmingham to get real news but this topic came up on WFAN in NY today. The host was Mike Francesca who hates Miami....you'll recall him from the 30 for 30.......he did the TV color commentary for the '91 Cotton Bowl when we got penalized for like 222 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct.

I know that the winner is named the champion.....but the voters still vote.....are they bound to vote for the winner? Cant find the answer anywhere

Not looking for us to back into a championship....just thought it was an interesting question..

What voters? There is only one "#1 team"...whoever wins the playoff.

Voters can vote for whoever they want. But the champion will be decided when the confetti falls as the Canes hoist the trophy in Mercedes Benz Stadium.

The only thing NYC knows nothing about is College Football, not one legit analyst for college football doesn't think we don't get in with a win. We win we will be in

Relax NYC sports radio knows nothing about college football, every legit CF Analyst says we are in with a win. I think Oklahoma maybe in for an upset also

If Miami beats the #1 ranked team in the nation and defending national champion in the ACC championship game, and doesn’t make the playoff, it will be a complete travesty. A hose job of Porterian proportions.

The NYC metro talking heads know as much about football as the Pope knows about fornicating.

Both have a twisted take on the matters.

Big Ten and SEC are big revenue draws on average. For an individual team, no one draws more eyeballs than Miami. I think we have two of the top 5 most watched games ever and many of ESPN's highest ratings were UM games. If it's revenue they want, that bodes well for us.

1)Miami wins the ACC but the Committee snubs us and selects Okl, SEC Champ, and both Ohio State and 'Bama. (I don't believe this will happen but enough folks taking about it here that it now concerns me).

That's insane. Will not happen. A Miami team with only one loss who beats the #1 team in the country for the ACC Championship will not be snubbed for either a 2-loss Ohio State who beat a lower ranked team in an objectively weaker conference or an Alabama team inferior wins who didn't even play in a conference championship.

2) A 2 loss Ohio State team wins the playoff.......leaving Miami as the only one loss Conference champ, Miami would then fall into #2 when 3 of the 4 playoff teams lose.

Whoever wins the playoff wins the championship, BUT the AP and Coaches polls could still vote how they want. Historically, there have been a number of instances of a split playoff, but only one since the beginning of the BCS era I believe (was it USC/Auburn?). In any case, this hypothetical is silly because the ACC champion will NOT be left out of the CFP. Period.

Throw in the fact that Clemson beat Auburn, who is everyone's darling right now. No way we will be jumped by OSU if we beat the clear #1 team in the country.

The only wacky scenario I’ve been thinking about is how to get Miami to #1 on December 3rd (though being #1 on January 9th is way more important).

I guessed it would have to take...

-TCU winning
-OSU winning

...but would the SEC automatically get the #1 slot if either UGA or Auburn wins?

Or,

OK, WI and Auburn win and the Committee would put Miami at #4 .

Just rather go to New Orleans.
