Waaaay Too Quiet In My Opinion

It will cost more than $3M to keep him
Gate receipts and vending at games alone probably takes a $2M hit.

If we hire someone not employed like Butch we probably save $3M right there bc we don't pay a buyout

Then consider lost money on apparel, tv money.

Then add lost capital gains on that difference of money along w time value of it

I don't know if it will cost them more than $3MM or not ... But they clearly think the cost of his buyout exceeds the value of increased revenue of a new coaching hire.

For me to remain a fan of this program ... I have to believe SOMEONE in the administration and BoT is smart enough to run a cost-benefit analysis, and they know the actual numbers a helluva lot better than me.

So, I'm gonna go with the idea that they are making a sound financial decision to keep him one more season, and will make a legit hire next year.

No. This is incorrect on so many levels.

1. You trust the admin and BOT to make a sound financial decision when they have done nothing to prove they're capable of doing one. The admin and BOT put us in the situation today. They extended him. They felt the need to extend him without any logical reason. Why would you believe they're capable of making a sound financial decision? They handicap us!

2. This isn't just about financials, there are many other issues with keeping Golden around. Just to name a few:

(A) they're telling the alum/fans that we're okay tanking in 2015 (what kind of message is that?) and in doing so jeopardizes the student-athletes,

(b) they're digging the program into deeper hole by delaying the process, and

(c) you're letting a coach run the program for another 10-12 months who knows he is out the door after the season(this is a guy who has not made a coaching change despite OBVIOUS issues on the staff). How does this benefit anyone?

3. The biggest issue the admin and BOT still remains. THEY LOVE TO MICROMANAGE!!! They have tremendous flaws and are not capable of running a program properly. This is why we have had 3 retards at AD and 2 of them left as soon as possible. This school needs to bring in a real competent and passionate AD to run the department and then follow the words of Adam Smith (HANDS ***ING OFF!)

So stop trusting and start realizing what is ACTUALLY going on.

Hands off...except this one time when we really need them to sh1tcan Al Golden.

Do you think a ten year contract in Goldens first year (6-6. Worse than previous coach)was a sound financial decision?

I think it was an overreaction to a bad situation. I think they thought "he was the guy", and thought they were demonstrating a commitment to him BEFORE he earned it, allowing them to use that position against him if he thought about leaving. I also think they extended him so that a larger buyout would be required from another school to take him.

In retrospect, it was a terrible decision.

But at the time, Golden's name was hot ... And most of our fan base was worried about PSU or Wisconsin or Tennessee taking our coach. It's easy to see it now ... But then, not so much, IMO.

If what you are stating is the case, all of us need to find another program to support.

I just don't accept that premise.

I think folks have made bad decisions ... But for the right reasons.

Promoted Coker, hoping to maintain the continuity from Butch.

Promoted Shannon because he was the "Pat Narduzzi of his time", had Butch connections, and is a Cane. **** being a Cane seems to be why Chud, Cristobal, Mark Stoops, and Schiano keep getting mentioned as Golden replacement ... Despite unimpressive resumes.

And Golden was "the up and comer" of choice when he was hired. Most every talking-head asked, thought he was a great hire.

I don't believe there is an intentional effort by the admin and BoT to sink the football program. If I believed that, I couldn't support the program ...

Meant Shannon ...

It's been fixed.

No one wants to go out and get a new coach because it will also cost money if the new president wants a different coach when that person is hired. I think they want to let the new pres. put their stamp on the future of the program and not be saddled with a staff in place. It is probably a nice selling point to the potential President. Come in and put your stamp on the future of cane football and be a legend forever... LOL who the **** knows.. Maybe they are all just whine asses and do not have the testicular fortitude to make such a big decision without someone holding their hands. But at this point I have to believe we are on the verge of losing a LOT of recruits... Between the mess with Dukes mom, this past abortion of a season, and all the negative pub surrounding this program I know I would not take a scholly there right now.. Its a fuggin hot mess if the papers are even calling out the coach....
