Again I think Fletcher is going to be very good in 2026. He's just not an elite player. NFL backs are very obvious. We haven't had one in a long time.
Fletcher is an NFL back, not saying he is Gibbs or Bijan robinson but i'm confident he can carve out a role at the next level....there's nothing more left to say then just "We'll See".....
He has the size but he runs upright still. He has been working on it. It's not easy making an NFL team.

Do you really think Fletcher has shown to be a Dallas, Homer, Miller, or Duke? He's definitely never been a dominant player. Dallas and Homer are mostly in the NFL due to special teams also. I'd definitely rate Dallas as the far superior RB.

Has anyone met SJ in person lately? UM lists him at 6’2” which unless he had a growth spurt, (possible) he’s closer to 6’0”. I met him last year and 6’0” was the ceiling, maybe 5’11”. Either way, does this dude have brute strength, leverage, great technique to hold up inside? Seems small to me and a risk at OG.
Seem like his scholarship was projection he would be a center and he laughed and basically never learned it and only can play guard.. lol.. GABOS

Full respect to Fletcher. Some of you have some serious orange and green color glasses here. Nobody rates Fletcher as an elite RB fam. He's never been up to that level. He's good and I'm glad to have him but he may find it hard at the next level. Damien Martinez was far better than Fletcher in 2024 and he can't make a NFL team. So we need to be real here. If we are kind to Mark and say he's now up to Martinez level in 2026, we still need better. The last NFL level guys we've had at RB were Homer, Dallas, Duke, and Miller. We need better. So yeah I still don't understand why it's so controversial to say Pringle is better. He's likely going to prove it pretty quickly in 2026. I am hopeful Mallory is better than Fletcher too. We need to raise the RB room talent. We've got depth but still lack a true elite player.
I think we have the best RB room in the country so this is where we depart as far as agreement. Louisville has the best running scheme in the country but those backs aren’t better than ours. Mizzou might have a better top 2 than us (when healthy) but not a better room in its entirety.

Those also aren’t the only NFL RBs we’ve had recently. You are too quick to cast aside Martinez, who i believe was elite here and would’ve tore up playoff defenses, as someone who can’t make a NFL team. A lot of talk about Martinez grabbing the RB2 spot in Green Bay right now.

Going back to my original point, rookie Mike James ran for 158 yards on 28 carries against the Super Bowl Seahawks defense (Marshawn Lynch had 128 on 21 carries against the 0-8 Bucs); Bucs lost in overtime. James broke his ankle the next week and was never the same but that performance illustrated the talent in the room and James’ as an individual.

Berry was a legit NFL level guy as well; moreso on the fringes but still, it’s why he emerged as RB1 over Storm, Lamar, James, and Coop as a senior—a lot of times with RBs it’s about getting an opportunity and rhythm as well. DB had a lot of injuries near the end of his time at Miami too.

We had Brashard Smith in the wrong position; Before we got Fletcher in ‘23, we did have a crazy dry spell from 2019 to 2022, Cam’ron Harris to Henry Parrish, we had no NFL backs in the room for four straight seasons after Deejay Dallas left.

In 2017, we had three NFL backs in the room (Walton, Homer, and Dallas) which was about our standard protocol since 2010 (Berry, Storm, James and Miller). I suspect we have at least 3 in the room right now again. Finding those 1st round types is hard but without a doubt Fletcher proved he was a special runner already. Regardless of where he is drafted, what did Price and Love do against us, OSU and A&M that Fletcher didn’t do to ND, OSU and A&M? Fletcher caught his rhythm when we needed it the most. He proved he’s elite.

Lastly, our RB room previously was so deep we even had a NFL RB transfer outta our program in Gus the Bus whose Stan-army president (bleakvern) was routinely clowned on for saying he was fast and could play in the league. I suspect our RBs are similarly suited to be compared to those previous 10s room; which is why people don’t see it like we see it re Pringle. Gus has the second most rushing yards of the recent RBs behind Miller, and no one in their right mind, even after the NFL career, would say he is better than Duke. So i feel the controversy stems from having a multiple of really talented guys rather than a shortage of options.

It is but it has happened. Shaq mason was 6’1 and he was 2 time all acc at GT and was a 4th round pick. He played 9 years in the league too. Then you just had Willie lampkin who is 5’11 was just one of the best guards in cfb. All American and 4 time all conference player and 2 of those was in the acc too
Anything CAN happen. Doesn’t make it best for our roster.

Coaches think different. Mario and mirabal like size on the line and they chose to bring him in knowing he was undersized. And based on all the talk he is at least performing on the practice field and it isn’t like he is going vs bums on the d-line

That's great to hear Martinez may have a home.

I didn't forget about Mike James, I was going to say the RB who went to Tampa. I just couldn't remember his name and didn't mention him. I really liked Mike James back in the day and had many arguments with people saying he was only a FB.

I like our RB room but I still doubt there's a star among them. There's several good to very good CFB players including Fletcher and Pringle. I think Fletcher is a borderline NFL guy. He certainly has the size but making it in the NFL is daunting. The room is good enough for what we need as long as Pringle takes a step the way I hope.

I’ve almost posted the same things a few times

It’s not a boring “trust the coaches” scenario but Mario and Mirabal usually recruit monsters and they aggressively went after SJ. Not that they never make mistakes but they seem pretty optimistic about him despite him not fitting their usual type

I can’t say this statement as a fact but I would be willing to put a lot of money on it. Mario and Mirabel went after SJ so aggressively because of his profile as an all American center. Especially after we lost out on the stud who ended up going to Auburn.

I’m done putting my negative thoughts out there as it relates to SJ at guard. Hope he absolutely kills it and is a total outlier like a couple of the guys mentioned in this thread.

It's a light year for RB and he's like 5th or 6th down the order. That's mostly due to his playoff performance, which during the season he was only 3rd team All-ACC. The A&M game was definitely the best game of his career but he hasn't been that player 99% of his career. He misses a lot of holes. He finally started seeing the holes Pringle saw when they used Fletcher out of pistol. The timing finally clicked for him. He's going to have to pick it up in a big way to raise his draft stock. We need the A&M game on a consistent basis.

I don't think he's better than Martinez who can't make a NFL team. That's just reality.
Fletch all of a sudden turned into a beast when we used the pistol formation. Do you judge him on those games or his career up to that point? I lean to judging a guy based on his most recent work.

I also agree that Martinez was probably a better back. Not sure we have a guy on the roster as good as him. Surprised he can't make an NFL team.

I won't get into the Fletcher debate. That was settled last year, and the other side should be ashamed of themselves.

One thing I will point out is that power wins in college football. In the pros, every team is big and strong so elite speed becomes a differentiator. But the teams that win in college football have big, physical running games.

Mark Fletcher is seen as one of the best backs in the country let alone on Miamis roster lol stop it fam

The thing is I don’t think he misses holes. The staff likes to use duo. Fletcher is a big back and it takes him time to get going. Playing out the pistol allowed him to build up a lil steam and come down hill as opposed to moving laterally out of the gun

They chose to bring him in. But I’d say they chose to bring him in as a center.

Agreed well said. I was pretty surprised how small he was last year when he hit the field but it’s another season and he’s still a young guy

We are a pretty loaded team so looks like most of the topics is discussing backups so that’s good

Good to know we will have another season of fans rooting against certain players.

Ill give you Lamar and Duke they were both dawgs but ill pump the brakes there....Deejay Dallas did his thing here but he never put up a string of games like Fletcher did during our cfp run.

Also I give Mali a lot of credit for the running game

We really just weren’t threatening much and teams were just selling out and crashing the middle

When we started to really focus on Mali and getting him the ball it made the defense hesitate a little bit. Lofton actually helped here a bit too

That little bit of extra room really let Fletcher get going and Pringle did a great job knifing through some lanes

My worthless two cents anyway
