Vinny T is a ***boi - 86 Orange Bowl v. Oklahoma

I getting mad all over again thinking about that game.

What ****es me off is if we sit Vinny that game we win by 4 TDs. He should’ve sat if he was hurt. Damnit man!

Yeah, Geoff Torretta was going to beat Ped State.

Good lord, the stupid ****e that people say on this site...

Overall if you rewatch the game there was dropped ball, fumbles, miscommunication on some routes and of course vinnies Turnovers..I’m pretty sure playmaker had a TD but tripped over his own feet before the catch too...it is what it but to accuse a guy of throwing a national title game is Pretty far

Some idiots on this board will try to convince you that the 86 Canes were the 1919 Black Sox.

He was paid; I don’t care what anyone says. Dude was a Heisman Trophy Winner, and he found some inexplicable way to stall all of our drives. Him, not the team, him. We absolutely smoked PSU that game in every single category. He was gift wrapping ints, throwing it in to triple coverage sometimes.

U don’t go from looking like Tom Brady during the reg season, to NFL Jeff George in the bowl game. Guys we’re running wide open & he chose to throw it in between 2-3 PSU defenders every productive drive? Naw....he was paid off.

I can see how that pic of vinny t is andrews avatar

To the bread basket my man. Not a single white shirt around. Not even close. And there was no pressure! Despite all of the mistakes, Miami still had the chance to win, and that throw was purposeful....u can’t tell me otherwise. NONE of his here, despite any lack of ability to play the position at that high of a level would make that throw.
And the way he threw it. Almost like, "Here ya go". It made no sense. Playground QBs don't make that throw.

Sandusky made a lot of QB’s look like that. Penn State hasn’t won a national championship since that night. We’ve won 4...

Bruh, GTFOH. Torretta 100% beats Penn State. We run the ball more, make safer throws and he would’ve had 45 days of playing and practicing with the first team. And we dominated that game on defense, especially. 59 yards passing and 167 total yards! They would’ve been even more fired up knowing they’d have to shoulder more of the load.

You’re insane if you don’t think Torreta couldn’t step in and won that game with all those weapons he had at disposal AND that defense.

Vinny was a one man army that lost that game. There is a reason many people think vinny threw that game. This rumor has been out there for 33 years. We aren’t the only ones saying it on this board

I’ve said this for decades. I believe this too

I still can’t figure out which game hurt my soul worse: the fatigues game or the Mcgahee game.

Fiasco Bowl '03. We didn't play great and got owned a few times, but we did fight back and win the game. The '86 game sucked, but we blew that. Straight up. We weren't dominated in any way. Should have been over by the 3rd quarter.

Torretta wasn't winning **** that night....or any other for that matter...

Oh really? Well, that’s an incredibly interesting take, especially since it’s well known that Torreta as a senior, with years in the system STARTED, played very well and WON the final game of the regular season. And he threw for 330 yards and 3TD’s that game (including three long TDs ...30, 40 and 50 yarders, IIRC)

But hey, let you tell it...Toretta wouldn’t couldn’t have won any game on any night (though history proves you incorrect)

So, let’s just agree to disagree, shall we?

Seriously? That’s where you’re moving the goalpost to? Lol.

Of course Vinny was the better QB. But if you don’t think Stevenson and JJ wouldn’t have had Torretta to play and beat PSU with a full month to prepare, then you don’t really know Miami football as well as you think you do. Torretta was a Senior with many years in that system, with plenty of experience going up against the first team defense, so penn state wouldn’t scare him. That defense was the best defense in CFB history up to that point

Lastly, you declared “Toretta couldn’t beat any team on any night”? YOU wrote that and not anyone else, so own the mistake. History proves you wrong and I provided facts to show it, so you’ll just have to forgive me if I don’t take your opinion seriously at the moment.

I give Absolutely no Fs what you think....JJ would go with Vinny again if he had to...he said so many times...

Relax, man. Simmer down, sir. We’re all good. I’m not disrespecting your manhood. We don’t have to always agree. Just gave my opinion, that’s all.

That '87 Fiesta Bowl was a heartbreak, I would argue that if we win that game, the '86 team might be considered the best CFB team of all time. Jimmy has said that is the best team he's ever coached, I've never forgiven Vinny

I still think the 86 team is the best CFB team of all time. Title or not and I don’t care what the 01 team has to say about it

Watching the opening drive of the 86 Orange Bowl game versus Oklahoma. Opening drive, let Highsmith run open without a throw after double pump sack.

Five interceptions against Penn State as the Heisman-winner—supposedly broken-hearted over his chick dumping him weeks before the game.

Never really much showed his face around the program again after that.
