Our depth at DT is obviously an issue, the only person I ever see passionately refute that is brock.

I think We will be fine, we will see
It’s the same scenario albeit a bit more experience in the 2018 dt group than the 2016 year.

In that year of 2016
-mcintosh Sophomore didn’t play as a freshman
- Norton sophomore played a little bit
- Gerald Willis redshirt sophomore , transfer.
- Courtel Jenkins jr played some the year before that.
- Anthony Moten jr, no playing time

AllLacked any meaningful experience heading into 2016 season yet they still performed right? With these coaches.

Now in 2018

Gerald Willis- redshirt senior who although didn’t play last year practiced all fall and is in football shape. Was productive when healthy in 2016. Immense talent

Pat bethel- 3 year under this Miami regime and had an impressive spring and has been solid in the fall. Has had playing time the last 2 years.

Tito odengibo- experienced athletic transfer At dt who has a quick step and has played really well in the fall.

Jon ford- Sophomore who has played better in the fall than in the spring and is in better condition. Not much playing experience.

Nesta Silvera- #2 dt In the country and has been impressive this fall.

Demetrius Jackson Early in fall camp he already said he will play inside on some downs and he was very effective in that role last year.

like coach Diaz said in an interview weeks back , this is college football you lose good players every year and they are replaced. With our scheme and the way we play defense the same thing will happen. It’s literally the same situation we had in 2016... not saying they will be all world but there is definitely talent and something to work with for sure. It isn’t a bad situation at dt whatsoever or anything close to it

I remember when we signed Vilma. Nobody ever heard of him but the staff loved him. As I recall he was an excellent student at a Gables and was bound for Stanford before we got in the picture. He reminds me of baseballs Joe Morgan as a commentator. I started being impressed with him when he started doing the college World Series. You were always looking to what Joe thought about a play or player. He did his homework and so does Vilma. Good for him.

Can't confirm the specifics of the above but he is extremely intelligent. We were both finance majors (he was a couple years ahead of me) but the professors would often speak super highly of him. Pretty sure he speaks three languages.

One of the best representatives not only of the football program but of the school as a whole. Love to see guys like him and James Jones from the basketball program doing well- not that anyone would expect anything less.

In 2016, Norton played mostly as a starter. 2016 and 2018 does have similar parallels, but one would be unwise to say it’s not an area of concern.

I remember a broadcast from the early 2000’s and they said Vilma spoke 7 languages by the time he enrolled at Miami. Extremely smart man and a great leader for any defense.

He’s book smart, there’s no doubt.

But he’s socially smart, street smart, as well.

He’s been on to Uncke Puke and his scam for quite some time.

He’s going to have to adopt a more objective tone now that he’s on a bigger stage on network television, but make no mistake, he has the best interest of the U in his heart. It has shown in his actions and everything he’s done. Just look at the track record, and the things he’s done for the University since he’s graduated.

After a quick google search, it looks like he spoke four languages...still beats me by three.

DT is inexperience for sure. It doesn't lack talent though. Our DT group as a whole COULD perform better than last season. But it easily could be worse, especially if a guy like Nesta doesn't quite play to his potential. Or if Tito ends up being bad....or Bethel isn't able to anchor the NT....and Ford doesn't step up. Thats the thing, theres a lot of IFs with this unit. We won't know till Sept 2nd and Oct 6th

Higher expectations means we need our dline to be much better then it was in 2016.

Barring an injury to Willis, I think our DTs will be a step up from last year. IIRC, Willis was the #2 DT in the country coming out out of HS. He's now a 5th year senior with all the experience and incentive in the world to dominate. Then we have 3 guys all of whom are plus DTs playing next to him in Bethel, Odenigbo and Ford, with Ford having major upside potential. Then we have two true-freshmen freak athletes behind them. Nesta has had solid development in HS and should come on strong by the second half of the season. Not worried.

p.s., Love Vilma, huge congratulations for his promotion.

Well earned and deserved by Vilma, he has always represented the university in the highest regard. Also glad he replaced McBooger or whatever his SEC cuck slurping name is, couldn’t stand the guy. As to our DT’s, I think they’ll be better than 2016 but not 2017 to start the season. Then I think they’ll improve vastly to the point that they will become an integral part of the defense, solidifying what will end the season as a Top 20 unit

Because everyone else is? Vilma can’t be too big a homer for The U but no reason he can’t be pro-Miami like Herbstreit is pro-Suckeye.

Hate to break it to you but Booger McFarland is now on Monday Night Football and he is terrible.
