This where im at with it lol, I could understand saying this to a recruit you battling for but to say this publicly is weak. Shouldn’t be any deflecting after a season like that, mario got flaws but at least he seems to take accountability of how we looked

Sans Lashlee and Harley as well. OU was an annual playoff contender because of Riley…he would get QBs and turn them into 1st rounders guaranteed, including Caleb Williams. Dudes hit rate with QBs is insane.

USC was what 4-8 in 2021….he brings in essentially his QB and (2) WRs, albeit one the 2021 Biletkinoff winner, and those guys had a 6+ win turnaround.

My point is Riley didn’t exactly leave the cupboard bare for Venables/Lebby. Miami evals have been terrible for YEARS…that’s not the same for Riley…most of that OU team was still in place and Venables squandered it. Of all the teams to attack, why us? We’re not in the same region, we’re not in the same conference….lots of teams go after the same kids so that’s not the reason…dude won’t make it last Year 3 because OU was never a rebuild job. Kiffin is probably somewhere looking like “yeah buddy”, great sound bite, I’ll show you what to do with the resources of an OU team/program that’s not used to losing lol.

What amazing use of rhetoric that is the perfect sell for his base.

-We aren’t playing them any time soon.
-We aren’t even recruiting against them for the same kids.

There is virtually no overlap.

But he blows this dog whistle because he knows OU fans still hate Miami to this day.

And they will eat this up “at least we are better than Miami”

The only thing is, as a HC you actually have to produce results, where as in politics you just keep spewing rhetoric without ever having to do anything.

I’ve always wondered why it took him so long to get a head coaching job.

And now I see why. He has zero “rizz”. Kids left that program like it was the titanic after engaging with him.

Them moving to SEC with him as this HC is the perfect storm to send them to mediocrity for the next decade.

Which is bad considering he inherited a team from Lincoln Riley that was in the CFB playoffs usually. Mario gets an F on last season, but it’s not like he was handed keys to a Porsche.
