Venables breaks down how he prepared for our offense

The composite.....which are things like rivals and ESPN which everyone on this site clowns and says doesn't mean ****.....247 had him rated as a 90, 4* prospect, third best player in Kansas. Even better he was the 3rd best player in Kansas and went to the Semper Fi bowl. That is not that low rated kid.

You did well on Garrett and Vic....**** even Tanner Muse was a first team all state selection his senior year with over 150 tackles and 1300 yards rushing in NC.

But hey 3 lower rated kids in 9 years. it's definately a trend

Two things stand out; it’s not debatable that Clemson have out recruited us, but the attrition disparity COMPLETELY exaggerates this fact. Our attrition rate of either guys leaving early foolishly, transfers, career ending injuries, or just quitting is freggin alarming. So our talent disparity is grossly exaggerated.

Second: The blue chips we do have are not growing/developing. Clemson’s 3 star guys are perfectly complimenting their blue chip guys; however, on our end, the 3 star guys are the stars, which is not saying much. If we didn’t get the transfers, lord have mercy!! We can’t build a championship squad relying on transfers b/c it’s like a box of chocolates that are band aids.

Clearly Clemson is developing all of their guys, and it’s not just b/c they are blue chips.

They have the better evals they got the better eye for talent and don't whiff on national signing day

Venables plays 3D chess while Baker is skilled at checkers. Against elite teams the defense will always get exposed because Baker is not good enough to adequately gameplan, prepare players, or call the right plays during the game. Against mediocre teams on our schedule he’s adequate. For Miami to compete with tier 1 programs like Clemson, Alabama and OSU, Baker, Patke, and Rumph need to be fired. If our goal is to be competitive with tier 2 teams in our division then all three are serviceable. The reasons for the humiliation against Clemson goes way beyond player talent and depth. Coaches failures had much more to do with it.

UNC? That must be a typo lol UNC had 20 points and 290 yards of offense. They were in that game because their defense shut down Clemson's offense. Something we've never come close to doing.
Howell threw 2 TDs tho and they had like 150 yards rushing, not to mention Howell was a freshman. I specifically remember them trying to stack the box on Sam and he he them for a 45 yard Bomb. that's my main point. his defense is good but it has its weaknesses.

No doubt. That culture there is rock solid. As much as I detest that clown. They were quick to get rid of the stink from demarcus bowman. Didn’t care that they lost the #1 rb cause the team is more important.
And eventually all coaches either learn that, completely flop, or win one before they wind up watching their wife have *** with a former player from a rival before bolting for BFE Texas (maybe I went Full Liberty with my story there but still)

They all do, but I've been talking to 2 ACC slappy coaches lately and both talk about how hard it is to game plan v Clemson than anyone else

Why fire Patke? Strikers have played very well, Frierson is one of the top dogs on this defense.

Fire Baker. Defensive playcalling and LB play suck. And thats his responsibility.

Switch coordinators and keep the same game planand we win by three touchdowns.

Etienne gets stymied and plays the worst game of his career because he is being predictably run into a defense designed specifiy to stop the one run play being called. He is also ignored in the passing game.

Lawrence struggles with efficiency and kills many drives heaving deep incompletions. A few connect and he finishes the game with 3 tds and a decent amount of yards.

Miami puts the Clemson defense on skates with a misdirection screen and short passing game. They move the chains throwing to running backs and tight ends and running a mix of zones and draws. They convert some third and Kong’s because they know you don’t always have to throw the ball ten yards to get ten yards.

The wide receivers get more open as Clemson adjusts to stop the runs and short passes.

All that talent but Clemson seemed as though they had less talent.

Miami schemed like they had a roster of five stars and could just impose their will on the opponent.

Where are all the other countless examples. My comment was the big 12, when Venables was there, isn’t the No lick of defense league it is now. Also OKLA was a pretty good F at that time too because they got a lot of studs.

you proved nothing, like at all. Why would I take an L. You haven’t proved anything. K state, TX okla, Braska, all those teams had defend defenses and the conference wasn’t the shoot it out conference it is now.
You might want to go back 12-13 years ago, you know, the same time you are talking, and check the weekly scores in the Big 12. If you consider 38-35 a defensive league, then I guess you made your point.............

What a great coach . . . It's like the Justice said, I can't describe pornography, but I know it when I see it. You can tell this guy's a great football coach just by listening to him . . .

He played the same defense versus borrow and he got torched because they had dogs at Wide receiver that beat that press coverage and Borrow knew how to throw that back shoulder and receivers when up and high pointed the ball in the air.. we gotta find playmakers in this team and give them Playing time!
That’s a testament to the defense because you literally have to be perfect. They hung with LSU for a while before the doors came loose. LSU just had to many playmakers.

This is my thing Baker n Miami played safe didnt play to win on def. Soft A.. coverages cover 2 not enough man and they the screen game which once was a corner stone for miami against us. We don't need a new Def coordinator he just has to change up his scheme and will be fine. I think clemson was a big learning experience for him. Now watch sat you will see something totally different. Well lets hope lol.
We will see the same thing versus Pitt. He is who is he is. Does he really need to keep proving it?

I think the main thing LSU had was a go to receiver. Once they started lining up Jamar Chase in different spots across the formation and scheming ways to get him the ball it was over.

Why we need Winston Moss and Quality Assistants.
We needed Alonso Highsmith to be given control of the UM Football program. Manny and Blake were in a panic mode, they pulled a PR stunt and hired Ed. The Canes need more than Ed, the turnover chain and touchdown rings. You build a program with quality, respected athletic departments including a strong football ops crew. Alonso has that pedigree, Blake and the rest not so much. Plain and simple, Al ( not Golden!) intimidated Blake and in turn Manny and these are the facts.

Clemson's strategy of recruiting is genius and simple. They mainly focus on the most important positions (DL, WR, QB, CB, and OL) and plug guys in. I don't think anyone should doubt Clemson recruiting on a high-level, although they've just started recruiting like the top 3 teams do annually. What's more impressive is the system they use which is indicative of the coach(es). There's little adjustments needed to be made unless they play a team that is equally as talented and or as challenging schematically.

They dont even drop bags on the OL, they pretty much get avg guys there (Only because of success you now see some high rated ol jump in the boat). Its mainly DL, WR, QB, CB And it didnt just start..they bagged Sammy Watkins out of Fort Myers.

Their offensive scheme is based off dink n dunking , quick pass witht he occasional bombs so their ol doesnt have to be top flight.

You can run anything on defense when your stacking the front four with high 4 star and 5 star caliber players. What helps them is that the Carolinas produce a high level of dl talent yearly and the schools in the area arent great football programs. Then they can get a dl or two from the metro atl area that is neearby.

-EVERY RECRUITIGN CLASS ...OUR MAIN FOCUS SHOULD BE GETTING TOP QUALITY DL. Not Project /development types...im talking guys ready to roll from the get. Thats what top defenses like Clemson, Ohio State, and Bama does.

Surprised he didn't just say "rolled out of bed". Most of the sane posters here new our weaknesses. Didn't take a great DC to notice our OL sucked and our WRs couldn't separate from a couch.

Agreed alot.

But Isaiah Simmons was a 4 star prospect. Alot keep downplaying him as a prospect for whatever reason to show that he was developed, but the kid came in there as a big time recruit
