Valentine Visiting?

The Champagnat assistant said when Valentine returned from the*U.S. Army All-American*Game in San Antonio -- where he played in a 4-3 scheme -- he told*coaches at Champagnat*he*might be better suited in*LSU's 4-3 system instead of a 3-4/4-3 multiple defense at Miami. Valentine made reference to it Tuesday when asked if he liked onBe team's scheme over the other.

"Miami could change some things up, slim down the d-tackles a little bit," Valentine said. "Instead of playing like at 340, 350, I'd prefer to be 310, 315. LSU was telling me*they could see me going down to 310, playing smaller, quicker, making tackles for loss."

The Champagnat assistant said he took Valentine down to UM to sit down and review film with Canes defensive line coach Jethro Franklin.

"He showed him all the film, how they use tackles in multiple ways, not just a nose guard," the Champagnat assistant said. "Golden, [Defensive coordinator Mark] D'Onofrio, Franklin, all of them were telling him he wouldn't have to come in and play heavy, they could make adjustments."

I'm sure Valentine saw how much they adjusted the second half of the season when the defense was getting mauled by everyone.

That is outstanding.

Great Troll-job/Schtick of all time.

I don't think it's a troll job. I think he has some real mental problems.

He had Kayaa gone to Boise @ the same time Kayaa tweeted out he was signing at Miami. Check out his twitter TL

That right there in bold. Elite DT's want to showcase their abilities. They want to rush the passer and make plays in the backfield. They don't want to hold their ground and man 2 gaps.

Im not sure why you guys keep rambling on about LSU not putting good defensive lineman in the league. You do realize that Glenn Dorsey, Kyle Williams, Tyson Jackson and Michael Brockers are all very good DLineman and all went to LSU right?

And this is what Golden will be fighting against the rest of his time at miami.Every coaching staff will be whispering this to our recruiting targets and the very elite will keep getting away.

Only because there is a lot of great talent in Louisiana. some of the best in the country. For all that talent that team has they still lose big games. None of these D line from LSU compare to Cortez Kenny, Warren Sapp, Jerome Brown, Russel Maryland or Big Vince. It all starts with bringing the talent in. Shannon killed this team by not bringing anybody in during his time at DT.

Exactly. No kid is saying wow I can't wait to play college nose tackle so I can stalemate the center and get beat up from all directions in preparation for the NFL. They've dominated high school and want the opportunity to wreck havoc in college backfields.

I can't believe the University of Miami in the year 2014 has a position called nose tackle. It's like forfeiting a vital 2-5%, identical to what happens with our home venue. The idea is to win every decision, not steadily leak.

I remember Don Latimore at nose tackle in the '70s. The 3-4 was in its early stages, with the hometown Dolphins using it along with the Broncos and their Orange Crush. I always despised it as a college scheme. If you have superior big athletes you want them freed up in space , not dancing and jostling.

Two nights ago I watched the tape of LSU vs. Iowa in the bowl game. No kidding a top defensive tackle prefers that scheme. They were attacking on the interior and once LSU took an early lead it meant the defensive tackles were unleashed and having fun all game.

BTW, the Kirksey kid from Iowa is good. Better than I realized. Kind of a cross between safety and outside linebacker. Lots of disruptive ability in his own right. He's in the draft this spring.

Time for Fat Cruller to change his scheme then
