Valentine Thread: Set to visit this weekend....maybe.

what we need to do is hire sabotagers to make sure these crooked programs like champagnat don't get elite prospects that we are after. The biggest mistake was letting Valentine enroll there in the first place. We also need to put pro UM guys in charge of the 7 on 7 programs down here and the youth programs.

These are things that need to be down if you really want to end the drama and put a fence around south florida. Keep the outsiders outside and prevent the infiltration.

No one is going to stop kids from going to places like Champagant. Places like that are not new. Remember the "Unversity HS" or whatever it was called a few years ago? The one room diploma mill in some strip mall that had been set up to basically give kids fake grades and diplomas so they could play football? Champagnat sounds like a more sophisticated version of that. As long as there are kids with bad grades in So Fla that need to stay eligible to play football, there are going to be schools like Champagnat.

The D'Onofrio-Champagnat incident has been talked about on here before, but I will go through it again. Drummond and Tunsil claim that D'Onofrio called their school a "dump" to one of their players (Joe Jones 2012 class), and that kid ended up transferring to Chaminade because he said that Miami (D'Onofrio) told him he would not offer him if he was at Champagnat. I will emphasize that this is according to Drummond and Tunsil so I'm not sure if the kid made that up to avoid having to explain why he transferred. Whether it was true or not, they took it to heart and have not been a fan of D'Onofrio since.

Pete, I honestly would not doubt if that really went down but then again who knows considering who one of the people saying that happened is.

Relationships.

Hmm, relationships? From what we read Hurlie has a friend, relative tied to about every school or kid we're recruiting in S Fl. Just about the same is said to be true of Barrow. Coley has been alleged to be a recruiting guru. Golden has a gift of gab, seems to work the local coaches unlike his stoic predecessor and stages dirt-cheap summer camps.

So Pete, tell us more about this relationship business. Where exactly are we failing? What self-improvement tips might you offer?

yup, and just so happens Hurlie has a very strong "relationship" with someone very close to Valentine.... So, you can put the "relationship" effecting TV talk to rest...

Not necessarily. Champagnat coaches don't like D'Onofrio going back to an incident from a couple years ago. That is a major issue here

Come on, Pete, don't hold back. Tell us what it is. Clearly, Al & Co. arrived after Genron handled Joyner and Therezie, so what was it? Possible that D'Onofrio called him on something?

Genron was the "handler" of Joyner and Therezie too???

I picture a caged lion when I hear the term handlers.

Pete, what would you say the relationship usually is between the player and his "handler"? Old coach, family member, current coach, Etc ?

youth coach, current coach, or family member are the three normal relationships. What people don't realize is that a lot of these kids would not be able to get around if not for these handlers. The kids need rides for unofficial visits, games, camps. These people are vital in the process.

And what's in it for the "handlers" Pete? Where do they get the money to be driving these kids all over on unofficial visits, and to camps, paying for hotels, food, etc?

That's for you to infer. All I'm saying is that Miami has a number of kids committed who have handlers and I don't see anybody complaining about them since they are committed here.

Out of curiosity, who besides Yearby has a "handler/mentor" in this class?

To my knowledge, Tyre Brady, Trayon Gray, Herndon, McCray, Yearby

God **** just when I thought I couldnt dislike coach No D any less. What arrogant douchebag!

Pete, what do you think is the major reason we are losing out on so many local studs? Is it scheme? Winning? Staff? Lack of relationship with handlers/coaches/community influences? Money? all of the above?

Relationships.

Think maybe we are starting to understand why Shannon stayed away from recruiting so many So Fla schools.

Good for D'Onofrio. At least he had the balls to speak up and call the situation for what it is.

Dude smells a rat.
Hopefully he sees the long term plan (Golden don't wanna be here and he is going to be so ****** with O'NO that they get fired) and comes on board anyway.

I want one of two things.

An 11 win season with an ACC title game appearance.

Or Golden's head on a platter.

Are these similar to Genron situations, or are those relatives? I know Yearby's is a similar "mentor" type situation.

This story could be bull**** Pete. Consider the sources.

TV isn't the only Champagnat kid with a Miami offer.

To me that is even MORE telling about the kind of place Champagnat is. If our DC really was telling a kid he would not offer him if he was at that program. Couple that with all the smoke and talk bout this school, and what's the real story there Pete? Place sounds shady as ****.

STFU CAPS. Michigan St told my friend they wouldn't recruit him if he stayed at Columbus High and told him to transfer to St Thomas.

Columbus ******* High School which is no slouch academically or athletically. So do us all a favor and shut up.

LOL. Come on mane. Read between the lines here a little bud. Why would our DC refuse to deal with a kid who was enrolled in a particular program, and be so disgusted by a particular program????

Which is why I said that Drummond and Tunsil "claimed" it happened. I have no proof of it and doubt it as well.

To your point about the other kids with Champagnat offers, Coley handed those out.

There is a clear difference between speaking your mind and burning bridges and relationships which is the last thing to do in recruiting. Especially since the U needs to rehab relationships all over south FL HS's due to radio.

So Pete,

Do we simply lose kids because our lack of a relationship with their handlers? Do we get out bid for their assistance? or a combination of both?

ugh...if true. How can someone take something like that personally?? Every high school is a dump! It's what high school is. Kids write on walls and throw trash everywhere and 99% of them look like a dump. If that's why he's being lead away from UM...that's simply bafoonery.
