Valentine Thread: Set to visit this weekend....maybe.

Pete, what do you think is the major reason we are losing out on so many local studs? Is it scheme? Winning? Staff? Lack of relationship with handlers/coaches/community influences? Money? all of the above?

Relationships.

Hmm, relationships? From what we read Hurlie has a friend, relative tied to about every school or kid we're recruiting in S Fl. Just about the same is said to be true of Barrow. Coley has been alleged to be a recruiting guru. Golden has a gift of gab, seems to work the local coaches unlike his stoic predecessor and stages dirt-cheap summer camps.

So Pete, tell us more about this relationship business. Where exactly are we failing? What self-improvement tips might you offer?

yup, and just so happens Hurlie has a very strong "relationship" with someone very close to Valentine.... So, you can put the "relationship" effecting TV talk to rest...

Not necessarily. Champagnat coaches don't like D'Onofrio going back to an incident from a couple years ago. That is a major issue here

I picture a caged lion when I hear the term handlers.

Pete, what would you say the relationship usually is between the player and his "handler"? Old coach, family member, current coach, Etc ?

youth coach, current coach, or family member are the three normal relationships. What people don't realize is that a lot of these kids would not be able to get around if not for these handlers. The kids need rides for unofficial visits, games, camps. These people are vital in the process.

And what's in it for the "handlers" Pete? Where do they get the money to be driving these kids all over on unofficial visits, and to camps, paying for hotels, food, etc?

And folks want to ***** when Al & Co. head north to the friendly Garden State. Probably find it to be like a breath of fresh air.

They need to learn to play the game down here or their time at Miami will be short.

And why am I not surprised Dorito is at the center of this thing. Guy is a prick.

I thought Hurlie Brown had a great relationship with Valentine and his family. How can LSU just swoop in and steal a kid that we have been building a relationship with for almost a year?? How does this scenario fall in line with handlers and relationships Pete?

shoot me in the ******* face! So not only has he cost us recruits due to his ineptitude in coaching, but he will now cost us our most important local recruit because of his social skills????

Pete, real talk. Champagnat sounds like a football factory masquerading as a school. Have you heard anything about FHSAA supposedly looking to strip them of their state title? There has been some talk about a LOT of players living with coaches and that the school is nothing but a day care center for football players.

What was the incident?

I picture a caged lion when I hear the term handlers.

Pete, what would you say the relationship usually is between the player and his "handler"? Old coach, family member, current coach, Etc ?

youth coach, current coach, or family member are the three normal relationships. What people don't realize is that a lot of these kids would not be able to get around if not for these handlers. The kids need rides for unofficial visits, games, camps. These people are vital in the process.

That's for you to infer. All I'm saying is that Miami has a number of kids committed who have handlers and I don't see anybody complaining about them since they are committed here.

well, they need to take back their money from Mayes and McCrays handlers and give it to Genron!

That's bull. Don't paint Genron and these other adult hangers-on as saintly because they drive kids to college campuses. Often get compensated by schools. The kids would get there somehow and the college coaches would still find them. These cats are in it for a reason, so don't be naive and buy the great humanitarian story.

I'm not defending D'O bc no one should but that wasn't a problem for the 6 mo that he was committed to us.

Something went down. Hurlie, who is close to the family, now can't even get an answer is TV is going to visit?

Would LOVE to see an honest answer here.

It was always a problem he always talked about scheme and fit

The D'Onofrio-Champagnat incident has been talked about on here before, but I will go through it again. Drummond and Tunsil claim that D'Onofrio called their school a "dump" to one of their players (Joe Jones 2012 class), and that kid ended up transferring to Chaminade because he said that Miami (D'Onofrio) told him he would not offer him if he was at Champagnat. I will emphasize that this is according to Drummond and Tunsil so I'm not sure if the kid made that up to avoid having to explain why he transferred. Whether it was true or not, they took it to heart and have not been a fan of D'Onofrio since.

Out of curiosity, who besides Yearby has a "handler/mentor" in this class?

To me that is even MORE telling about the kind of place Champagnat is. If our DC really was telling a kid he would not offer him if he was at that program. Couple that with all the smoke and talk bout this school, and what's the real story there Pete? Place sounds shady as ****.

what we need to do is hire sabotagers to make sure these crooked programs like champagnat don't get elite prospects that we are after. The biggest mistake was letting Valentine enroll there in the first place. We also need to put pro UM guys in charge of the 7 on 7 programs down here and the youth programs.

These are things that need to be done if you really want to end the drama and put a fence around south florida. Keep the outsiders outside and prevent the infiltration.

Come on, Pete, don't hold back. Tell us what it is. Clearly, Al & Co. arrived after Genron handled Joyner and Therezie, so what was it? Possible that D'Onofrio called him on something?

not sure, but it might be a catch 22. Crooked programs like Champagnat are capable of getting kids like Valentine to qualify...
