You may believe that I don't. Repubs moved to the center/left, the progressives took over the entire dem party. Why everything is labeled alt right now, because anything right of crazy town progressive is considered right wing extremism. Ridiculous. Entire groups of republicans broke apart into little clicks. Log cabin republicans, pro choice, lincoln project, etc etc etc.

From what I can tell, people are just developing into extremes, while the middle gets completely unrecognized.
A large part of the problem, at least in American politics, is the primary system. Typically the people who go out to vote in primaries, especially at the non-Executive Branch level (i.e. President and Governor), are people further from the center in both parties. This is compounded by the lack of a third party or coalition system. By the time you get to the actual R v. D election, you are typically left with people further out from the center and that middle third is left scratching their heads. That middle third in America tends to be the fiscally conservative/socially liberal sector.

I like how its okay for some to sum everyone up as "left" and denounce them as such.

But as soon as some call others right, oh no, thats bad, you can't do that.
Someone said there are a bunch of Stalins and Maos on here? They called people the name of someone who slaughtered 6 million for no reason other than their ethnicity?

I guess theres a difference between calling someone Hitler and calling someone right in terms of political alliance, but okay...

Its not okay in either case, but using the term "you are a leftist" seems like an acceptable insult for the same people who can't handle being called "right-wing"

That's the exact difference. When you start suggesting your fellow Canes fans, and in most cases, fellow citizens, are something other than someone you disagree with ideologically, it becomes a problem. The coarsening of discourse leads to dehumanizing people for arbitrary reasons.

I completely agree. But this has been happening for a long time. Since the 1950s, conservatives through McCarthyist propaganda have labeled leftists, progressives liberals, etc. as communists, socialists, non Americans, etc. Essentially, anyone who they disagreed with were communist or socialist, or worse.

Just as that poster was crazy to say what he did, so are the posters who regularly use "leftists" as derogatory, or call democrats, liberals, etc as communists etc. It happens in the media as well. So many media and politicians who routinely have no issue calling others communist and worse were crying about "semi fascist" comment.
