USC V SAN JOSE ST

I'm not certain I said or implied handicapping Miami's (or anyone's) offense.

Having the ability to control the ball and keep your offense on the field is hardly a liability, unless I'm missing something.

Artificially slowing the game down and limiting the number of snaps run in a game, is not usually a good strategy for a team with the talent advantage.

It makes things like turnovers and bad ref calls, drive killing holding calls, bad drops, etc., have a greater impact on the game.

Whereas with enough plays run, those things even out and/or their impact is diminished. So the more talented team has a greater chance of prevailing.

Because we sucked, yeah

We also weren’t nearly as good as people remember in 2021. Lots of revisionist history when it comes to Lashlee

But whatever. Pretty sure we have highlighted sucking for a long time enough I suppose

Lashlee took over the 84th ranked offense.

In a COVID shortened offseason he turned it into the 23rd ranked offense.

Then having to break in a rFR QB in the middle of conference play. he still had it at 35.

And all of that with an OL so bad that arguably the best OL guru combo in college football looked like they shouldn’t be coaches when they inherited it.

We will be very lucky to have Lashlee level offensive coaching under Mario.

It’s why the triple option is the offense of choice for the service academies. They know they can’t out talent teams but they can put discipline them. Shorten the game, keep your mistakes to an absolute minimum and you’ll have a chance against a more talented opponent.

I think perhaps confusion here. I'm not suggesting winding the play clock to zero every snap (although...🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐), but thematically Bama and Jawga agree with me on how critical dominant power run OL play is than they agree with other styles.

The overall point is with the rule sets so heavily skewed in favor of offense, a best practice to help your own defense is to reduce the opposing team's offensive touches to the greatest extent possible.

There is no team that doesn’t want a dominant OL that can just steamroll the other team. That’s not really a point to agree or disagree over.

Service Academies are forced to take the concept to an extreme.

And yet some continue to do so friend..

I'm just in the camp of "ball control" is key to long term success in P2D1 game today. I think it's the only effective way to put a stop to the offense friendly rules that are probably only going to get friendlier.

Other's having a different philosophy is ok too*.

*c'monnow, no it isn't...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

But all you’re doing is limited your win probability with that pace of play.

Lane Kiffin made fun of this after he played A&M. He was mocking Jimbo in the post-game for being so deliberate and methodical with his offense.

Kiffin understood that this actually increased his chance of beating A&M. He said so. The team with the Top 5-ish recruiting class ranking should not be running what Jimbo runs. It only helps Ole Miss.

Bama and Jawga have been playing the style I'm describing for years and have done quite well with it.

I feel good with my position here.

If hes smart and we're able, we definitely need some style points.
If he's smart and we're able, I'd like to see him get TVD and other first teamers off the field (preferably by halftime). We have a lot of young ones that need reps.

Remember what or lack of depth cost us last year. I understand how style points would appear, but getting reps for second teamers could get us an extra win or two as the season progresses.

Saban and Smart also wanted Dan Enos to be their OC. Would you feel good about bringing him in to be OC next year?

With enough talent, you can run *whatever* you want to a great deal of success.

Although Saban did move away from the running, ball control offense when he hired Kiffin. And has never really gone back to it.

You have to watch redshirt exposures right?

Or is Miami at the "**** redhsirts,we gotta use everybody" stage?

Stats show teams who lead the country in tempo/most plays per game, do terrible on defense.
I'd like to see the correlation...

That data isn't gonna be to some porsters liking...

we gotta air it our 400 times a game bro.

ball control is dumb bro

can't win bro

it's a drag race bro

we gotta be multiple bro

Bama and Jawga don't even have RBs or OLs bro, they just play 7 v 7 bro

Alabama hasn’t been a “ball control” team for close to a decade. Georgia ran 70 plays per game last year.

Look at the list of teams who ran the least amount of plays and you’ll see a list of the nation’s worst teams.
