US News 2017 rankings are out....

Hey being a top 40's institution and # 1 in Florida is a huge selling points to parents and recruits that value their education. Throw in the small class sizes and this is another tool in Coach Mark Richt's toolbox.

In the 2012 US News Issue The []_[] was 38; normal range has been around 44-52 past 10 years or so.

Right after the 38, Shapiro broke and the rating nosed down. Frenk being from Harvard helped in the all important institutional score.

In other news, O$UCk, despite getting an astronomical share of state funding, still can't crack the top 50!

It's great for the school. My father's degree is now worth more!
 
Moving up is very difficult proposition. Frenk was hired away from Harvard for a reason...bigger endowment and higher ranking.

So long as they disconnect the AD from normalized student admissions, Miami the Institution and Miami the AD will thrive. If they link, that makes for a very heavy lift...there can really only be one Stanford.

Frenk's tenure would be considered a massive success if he increases endowment corpus by 25% and puts Miami in high 30s over next ten years.

Being a top 50 school is very respected and sought after. Top 20 is elite and top 10 truly world class.

Go Frenk...makes my paper all that more valuable.

For SEC context....a graduate from Ole Miss, Miss State, or Bama would be considered at par (by anyone who knows) with a HS degree from STA.

I'm not a Cane alum, but even I know that a Florida degree will get you into Raiford, and not much else. FSU ain't much better.

Now a LAW degree from Florida opens a lot of doors.

UF might be the best value in higher education. However, UF is not overall a better/more prestigious university (however you judge it) than Miami (FL).

Have you looked at the formula US News uses? Take a look at this from this year's methodology article:

"Undergraduate academic reputation (22.5 percent): The U.S. News ranking formula gives weight to the opinions of those in a position to judge a school's undergraduate academic excellence. The academic peer assessment survey allows top academics – presidents, provosts and deans of admissions – to account for intangibles at peer institutions, such as faculty dedication to teaching."

After Shapiro broke with the big Yahoo! expose from Sparty Boy, there was no way these other university leaders, especially if they already had a bad vibe to UM, could not have marked UM down on the surveys US News sent them; it's human nature.
