Urban Meyer on Miami Job

Not a great job but a glamour job. His reason, a lot of Florida HS players are developmental players due to the coaching they receive in High School compared to the LA, Georgia, Ohio areas. He spoke on the high school coaches in some of those areas being paid more. Paid more as we all know sometimes equals higher quality.

Could this be a reason why a lot of our players are actually better in the NFL and don’t develop as much in school. Yes, some of it is on the coaching staffs we have had over the years.

Btw, this was say on Colin Cowherd show.

Urban likely learned that from west coast coaches because they’ve known it for decades - this side of Florida usually cannot match up with all the talent across the board of the top couple of Miami teams that have the best shot and attract the transfers.

The shot you have to beat them is coaching and discipline play. High school teams can get away with winning on talent alone, but as our Hurricanes show, in college, it’s been a different story. Miami needs to stop being lazy and settling on the same broken recruiting plan of “staying home.” Put the same effort into recruiting the state as they do Miami, and things will begin to change. You start getting players who actually lead when it's time; you get players who don't need to be coddled all the time, players who don’t lose you games with selfish penalties, or a myriad of other mistakes they should have corrected on high school fields.

he’s URBAN MEYER! One of the greatest coaches to ever work a field !!!!

We can’t compare him to Randy, Golden, Coker, Rucht and now Manny.

He’s a hall of game coach. He had Utah balling at one point due to his offensive scheme and developing players. He went like 22-2 in the 2 years he was there.

what he did at bowling green in his short span is still considered today to be one of the greatest turnarounds in the history of the NCAA ... add Matt Rhule to that list now. But we’re talking about a GOAT coach.

Bobby Bowden has allllllllll that talent allllllll those years and won how many rings? 2?

Urban won that at Florida in like years because he knew 1. How to eye talent, 2. Develop it 3. Coach it up.
S. Fla teams are HIGHLY undisciplined and rely heavily off of pure talent just like Fsu did when they won w Winston and Freeman/Cook
now look how both the mighty have fallen

lmao some of yall need to stop posting...Your on a cane board and really dont know why Bobby Bowden didnt have that many rings???.

My answer is that going over the last 4 years, there are more than a "handful" of kids making an impact across college football. That assertion is wrong. My proof is that 6 kids alone were drafted in the first round last year, and we can look at that draft and other drafts and see many more kids being drafted from Florida. We can look at All-Conference lists across the country too. You're wrong by an metric of calculation.

What's funny, though, is that you can't provide those lists. We're talking about guys on the elite teams RIGHT NOW, and the only answers have to do with past drafts.

I recognize AP. Colorado was the champion.

But if two championships in 75 years makes you feel better about Georgia football, go ahead and claim it.

this ninja Andrew would spout off about Georgia Southern soon enough. UGA has been worthless my whole life save for 1 game where they allowed a simple route to kill their hopes. Im not even gonna speak on GA TECH.

8 of 11 of those title were between 1983 and 2001. That trend is dead, over...long gone. For example, the state of Florida only has 1 title in the last decade, and outside of that blip, the state of Florida hasn’t even sniffed title contention in **** near 12 years.

The downward trend in state of Florida footbal is unmistakable, striking, and quite obvious to everyone.

The only people that still view the state of Florida football as some dominant beast are people that life in Florida. The rest of America no longer views Florida football that way...hasn’t been that way in 10 years.

Also, of the 4 CFP teams, here are the number of starters from the state of Florida:

Oklahoma: ZERO
Ohio State: 2
LSU: ZERO
Clemson: ZERO

your numbers are off but...carry on.

Doesn’t Tyler Davis start for Clemson? He went to wekiva
I think this post says a lot. The top schools still cherry pick the best kids from Florida, but they don’t build through Florida. Bama and LSU build through LA, MS, AL, and Texas. Georgia and Clemson build through Georgia and the Carolinas. OSU builds through Ohio and the northeast with a strong national presence as well. OU goes through Texas.

It’s tougher to build a strong foundation for a team through Florida players.

How the f*ck are schools not centrally located to florida gonna build their teams...THROUGH florida. Some of yall are just silly , dyslexic, or dont understand recruiting.

Every school in the nation recruits florida hard from div 1 to Niaa. They burn up their resources to recruit Florida. They put their best recruiters in FLORIDA....what dont you ninjas get??...

Then go on to post..." look Ohio State recruits Ohio".."bAMA RECRUITS aLABAMA" ..some of the dumbest sh*t i see posted on here over and over.

They only could "CHERRY PICK" as most schools have to recruit around their base locally. The only school you can lay claim to is UGA.....But even that is debunked as they PAY the most money for south florida kids yearly..them mfers drop BAGS...and they aint doing it up and down the Carolinas..lol They paying for unofficial visits.

Its tougher to build a strong foundation for a team through FLA players by out of state schools because EVERY ONE is here recruiting and you wont land them all.

If the state of Florida has deep and near infinite pool of elite talent walking around from year to year, as many of you posit, what difference does it make to lose 4-5 elite guys from that pool (spread out over 4-5 out of state teams)? On one hand you can’t talk about how deep and talented the state of Florida is, and other the other cry about a mere fraction of talent getting cherry picked. You can’t have it both ways.

The only way the cherry picking argument (only a handful of guys in play) works and makes a dent into Miami recruiting is if the talent in Florida isn’t as talented or deep as you all say.

In fact, the cherry-picking has been happening for 35 years.

The difference is the training, coaching, and just as important, the talent level in Florida is not as diverse as other talent laden states (Carolinas, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Cali, Virginia, DC Metro, Ohio Valley). Those states gives you the full range of talents: Big/Tall fast WRs, TEs, trench warfare (OL/DL studs), QBs, DBs, RBs, linebackers and the once in a generation athletic freaks.

Florida “mostly” gives you a bunch of fast, skinny guys. What did Mark Richt say his first day meeting the team: “Where are the big dudes”?

Been saying it for quite sometime. The basics like tackling, footwork as QBs, blocking techniques, and some basics get overlooked at the very beginning for these kids.

Too many coaches focusing on big hits, 7 on 7's, and other crap instead of developing good habits from early on.

You guys keep saying this, and we just keep pointing out that the best teams have hardly any impact players from Florida, and especially not from south Florida. Why don't you prove us wrong with some facts other than "2001" and "look at the draft".

Check the commit list of the top five 2020 recruiting classes and tell me how they're burning all their resources to recruit south Florida.

I have two words why the draft isnt the most accurate barometer of what you can win with. Ereck Flowers. Kid went first round do yall remember him just anihilating kids on the Oline me neither
