UPDATED: Mark Matthews commits to TAMU

Bain knows how big redwood trees fall , loud boom.

Bain would see a MM type monster and immediately, he’s pump first snap he would ram his helmet top of shoulder pads underneath the chin strap with both legs extended in POWER DRIVE THRUSTERS.

Those MM’s type players would immediately know they lost everything and back peddling is there best defense in not getting hurt .

MM wants NO part of going up against Miami D every single day , he would just fake an injury to get off the practice field then PORTAL IMMEDIATELY.

My freshman year 1st day in pads joint JV and varsity practice.

Hamburger drills , I knew that a statement was needed to set my career.

Hamburger drills, I picked out the senior MLB , I counted the players in front of him and made sure I’d be his draft.

Boys I hit that dude perfectly legs extended head but hit upper pads at chin strap.

I we were in stalemate hit , it was loud very loud hit .

Team exploded in yelling, we never FELL neither one of us.

I got back in line , I WAS ALMOST OUT COLD, snaught dripping out my nose, I hung on to the player in front glassy eyed needing smelling salts.

Slowly I came out of the fog .

4 JV games later I got called up to varsity and rotated with starters.

Next year started and made second team all Dade as a sophomore.

One hit just one with all my heart ❤️ was all it took.

I do think this recruitment is a pretty good lesson in being closed minded. At face value, everyone on here is reading about this recruitment, listing all the ways Miami is better for offensive lineman, and going, "I just don't understand how this kid wants to go to A&M". Then you watch the commitment video and you go, "ohhhhh, not everyone's personality is the same and I've been in the Miami bubble thinking everyone is Reuben Bain or Malachi Toney".

I didn't even consider how different the personality could be.

I hadn’t given my take on this kid’s film because I didn’t want to stir up a hornet’s nest in here, just in case that he committed to the good guys.

Now that he’s a ***gie, I can say that I’m glad that he didn’t commit to our Canes. I was not impressed by his film at all. This is NOT sour grapes. I think that Mario dodged a bullet on this one,

Dude has elite traits but is far from being able to start on our OL. Did not like his footwork and he seemed to lumber a lot off of the line.

Add on all of the extra fruitiness and it’s a likely scenario that he would have been a bad fit in our locker room.

Only time will tell if I’m right on this one or not.

I think
He’s zesty and has some Fruit Loops in his tank!!! (PAUSE)
IMHO, he’s an immature young kid. Still unsure with himself, couldn’t even figure out his hand movements. Very uncomfortable and over compensating with hubris and bravado. Now, he could have come here and had that s**t knocked out of him and set himself on the road to becoming a very good to great player and 2/3 yr starter. But, he’s going to TAM, where they put up with weird s**t from the cadets, players and student body. Also, look at Mario, still looks like he could suit up and expects that from his players. Look at that Slob Coach Elko Era himself, yeah that carries over to your staff and players, it’s called CULTURE. Give me the Canes Culture every time🙌🏽

Let’s be honest if he had commited here
We would be flexing we got the top rated hs OT 2 years in a row and that this cements us as OTU

The hit rate for the top rated hs tackle is pretty high
One of the lowest bust rates

No matter what ppl say
Mm has a higher projected trajectory than congdon Irvin or any other tackle we have not named cantwell

there’s a higher chance he’s a good player and makes the league in 3 years than busting

Those are just statistical facts

It sucks
Just hope they get the top guy next year

Yes but I think if he had a similar zesty commitment to UM, a faction of fans would think it’s great and he just has a goofy personality, while another faction would still say “Uh oh.”

True. But losing this battle also means we can all openly say what we'd have pretended not to see during this signing ceremony.

I normally don't pay a lot of attention to recruiting other than looking to see who we got when they commit. I'm just too old to worry about 17-18 year old kids, and this guy is still emotionally very much a kid. I looked at some of his film and he looks great. But seeing that interview, no pads, he doesn't look like an OL to me. No idea what kind of power he brings or how hard he is willing to work in the weight room, but looking at him now and Cantwell last year, I don't see any comparison. He may be great but I think he's gotta build some muscle.

If anyone has seen the movie Be Cool, he gave off vibes similar to the Rock’s character when he was trying on western clothing and boots. Very weird energy that suites TAMU.
MM is with a team now that doesn’t have his best interest at heart unless he’s good if not , they ignore him in hopes he’ll portal.

It was as crushing to Miami as it was to MM he just doesn’t know it yet , but it’s coming like a freight train to college station
