I think you need a hard and fast rule that the portal is one-way. Once you enter, you’re not coming back.

Exactly. It’s not just about talent. It’s about older talent. Juniors seniors, Rs seniors.

Teams that have been building elite talent for 4 or 5 years.

If only our fans were coaches.....The job for Head Coach and DL Coach and Recruiting Coordinator was open, why didnt anybody from the board apply since they know how to do it.

A lot of Hindsight people in our fanbase!!!!

After an incompletion, they would of ran it!!!

After getting stopped for a shirt gain, they would of thrown it!

After a blitz missed tackle, they would sat in zone and played whats in front!

Lather, rinse, repeat!!!

Texas played in the NC two years ago with a really young team. Less than two years of average CFB experience - don’t have the numbers in front of me.

That’s fair, but the transfer portal and NIL have made it a totally different world from even the last year of Manny. All coaches have HS recruiting misses. However in the past we would have rostered those misses for considerably longer until we could backfill with new HS recruits. Mario’s done a good job - fantastic at quarterback - in backfilling in the portal.
 
I think people have to factor in the NIL era. Its going to absolutely rare to hold on to all your HS recruits for 3 to 4 years. Thus your portal access will seem plentiful. In the grand scheme of things all teams are struggling to keep players.
