Update on David Stone-he is staying at Oklahoma

I don’t understand why ya’ll can’t grasp the idea of us addressing CB and QB in the winter portal but still need WR, LB, and more Safeties and DL, lol. Does addressing the CB room after it being the worst position group at UM since I’ve been alive just override falling short at several other spots? Why is it so hard for some of you to be objective and look at things without O&G glasses? Honest question? The reason we are all active on this portal forum right now is because we still have A LOT of needs. So what is the issue with someone saying the portal haul was incomplete? Is that false?
I wouldn’t worry too much about. I for one take great comfort in knowing there’s likely ZERO overlap in the posters saying the winter haul was complete and we only need to add a couple of starters to those that swore last year we didn’t have an issue at DB

Someone will find a way to refute this though, because he’s Saint Cristobal and the best we’ve had in decades.

I really do think people on here are scared the money and donations to the program will simply disappear if he’s replaced, which couldn’t be further from the truth.

But as you said, he must win this year. There’s no more excuses, it’s Year 4. If you can’t make the ACCCG in year 4, he’s just not going to succeed here. We cannot afford to give him 10 years with how the landscape is changing.

Success needs to be asap.
Of course the excuse makers will always be out in full force. They always are.

With that being said, ACCG appearance is not enough in year 4. We need to win the ACC. IMO already taking 4 years to even get to there is a joke.

We are the biggest spenders in the conference. The fact that in year 4 we have to discuss this just proves how much we have underachievd thus far under Mario. Non traditional powerhouses SMU, Louisville and North Carolina have all made the ACCG since Mario has been HC here. Enough is enough.

Who is saying the portal haul was complete though?
The only question is how the limited money should be implemented for this season.

Like just for a thought, If you have $11 how should we be spending it?
Me id probably go $4 WR, $3DT, $2 LB, $1 S, and then you find a way to add another wr or preferably 2, RB, another safety with the remaining $1...
But you also have to factor in that WR and DT have very inflated markets. And you also have to look at the actual supply.... Which at WR unfortunately isn't looking very good imo.

I think right now the most sure things are Id take a stab at one of those sophomore DT, I'd take a stab at the top LB, and I'm doing anything I can to take someone top outside WR ... I'm still on the Lucas moving to safety bandwagon... Save that starting safety bag and push it to DT and wr

The odds should be enough for Miami to know we don’t have enough going in to this year .

Can’t be penny pinching with how much is on the line and for the trajectory of this program

This will be my last point on this topic.

We can all agree the staff needs to do better. And to your point, part of the fun is breaking down their decisions and looking at whether our past and current strategies are working.

You don’t think we’re going cheap with certain players? In some cases, you are right, but in others, I strongly disagree. Too often we’ve seen key positions go unaddressed. Last year, our secondary is one example. This year, I’m seeing it again. At DT, you seem to be fine with our roster, and that’s fair. We can agree to disagree.

I’m not anyone important, and I’m definitely not one of the few billionaires funding the roster, but that’s just my opinion based on feedback I’ve heard from people who really involved with the program and football community.
If we just get one of Stone or Watson, I think our DT group is looking very nice for this year and has a great start to next year too where it is looking like we are going to have to hit portal hard for DT. I say spend it now and not also have to do the same next year FOR 2 GUYS!

A DT group of Blay, Scott, one of those portal DTs, Moten... And then next year you hope Jones and Simpson can take a step with Scott and one of the portal guys returning. And maybe Moten Too. Likely need one DT still, but it'd be much better.

We land one of them and we need to get like a 5star HS DT this yr too - I think Lamar Brown who many are recruiting at iOL but we are recruiting as DT would fit that but think he's probably a hard pull from LSU territory.

So theirs still a chance OU retains Stone?

that article posted one page back really lays it out. Sounds like Nagy came in and set up some kind of "scale of measurement" to determine NIL. Stone was asked to take a pay cut since his freshman year performance didn't meet his goals. That article really takes Nagy and Venables to task. It also asks hard questions about parental involvement...... It pretty much calls for OU to figure it out with Stone.

Meanwhile there is another thread saying how strong Mario is on his stance about re-negotiating... Alternatively, there is a middle road...

We not only need to keep the players we have, we also need to fill the many gaps on the roster.

This was all very predictable and the $80 million man at the helm needs to get it done, get it right and win.
The $80 million coach line has gotten old at this point. Mario is the 18th highest paid coach in the country ..18th. Did we finish in the top 18 last year. Yes we did. And we will finish in the top 18 this year also.

we will until his contract is over. We’re getting exactly what we’re paying for at this point in time. If you want to look at some of the coaches on the list that have accomplished less than Mario but are getting paid more, go ahead and take a look. Don’t take my word for it. We’re finally spending the same money other programs have been pouring into theirs for 30 years and he’s supposed to win everything overnight. His first real recruiting class is starting their junior year! Winning a championship is a long process, period and there aren’t any shortcuts.

Listen, you'll get no argument out of me. I personally believe Mario has been a failure thus far. The end of last season really did it for me. And this sure as **** is not an elite staff. Well, at least it wasn't remotely close to that years 1-3. Let's see how they fair this year.

Mario has to WIN, not just make the ACCG this year. And of course make the playoffs. Anything less in year 4 is a complete and utter failure.
Meh. ACC Champ game.

We need to be better. We’ve improved three wins and nine draft picks from January 2022, but we lost a 21-point lead to Syracuse with the season on the line. We aren’t where we need to be.

Part of the fun of this process is debating strategy and allocation. But the whining I see from many about us “going cheap” is wrong. And it often comes from those who don’t put up money.
Like I’ve said before, if you don’t donate to the collective you don’t deserve an opinion.

So your goal in bringing Mario in was to be the 18th best team in the country? Stop it.
